Is sport mode in an automatic transmission better than a manual?

I’m just touching base on sport mode in newer cars. Sport mode is essentially where you can control what gear your automatic transmission is in. Some of these systems work better than others. But at the end of the day the manual transmission gives you the most control and computers won’t interfere with your heat shifts like an automatic.
