Following up on the addendum for FiiO JT1 Review I released earlier today; I would like to confirm on some inquiries made pertaining the open/closed nature of this headphone. So, I have opened up my JT1 and indeed it is some sort of hybrid open/closed cavity design. As you can see in a pic on the Post section of my YT Channel (I can't post photo here), there is a layer of brown fabric laid over a dense breathable foam just under the grille between the drivers. So, it is not exactly open, nor it is completely closed, I can still hear incoming sound unlike when I use true closed back. At the same time, it does not leak out so much sound like a full open headphone (Sennheiser HD600 etc)
I own the JT 1. It's close back. They seem to be open back because of the holes. But if you look closely it's just for design. Also to my ears. They are neutral warm. Emphasis on the bass more. Imo. I pair it with the topping dx1.
Thanks for the review as always. I already have a refurbished Sundara, plus a Takstar HF580 from your previous recommendation, so I'm good. Still, it's good to know that there are decent headphones in this price range too.
Abigail pro vs J Cally JM 07 Which is better for iems that want to sound laid back for sensitive ears without making fatigue? Which is built good and have edge better sound making quality?
Hi Andy, thank you for your review and the comparison between JT1 and Sony Mdr 7506. Wondering which one should I get and upgrade for streaming music with my iPhone? My current headphone is Philip Shp 9500 and Koss KPH30i.
Closed back high level? not many to choose from but I do like and use a lot Fostex T40RP Mk3, it is rich and musical, as well as analytical at the same time, but may be Bass heavy too
Is there any amp or dac for FiiO FD11 under 25$, that make it sound the way it sounds, I have sensitive ears. You also mentioned some dacs and amps in FD11 review, Is there any? Or no need for a dac or amp for best output?
It depends on what you use now? FD11 is a scalable IEM and will react positively with better driving source. For example, even when driven with Abigail Pro or JCally JM7, FD11 would already be sounding better than directly connected to a phone or laptop output, and it gets even better when attached to something like iBasso DC03Pro or Moondrop DAWN Pro. So at least you can consider Abigail Pro or JCally JM7 for your FD 11
I don't know how to answer that, some headphones like the super bright Beyerdynamic DT990 headphone is definitely not for people who are sensitive to high frequency, or Moondrop Stellaris IEM, same effect. So these sort of things are not definitive
@@donglemadnessok my statement was incomplete, so let me clarify, I never use bright iem or headphone, FiiO FD11 known as very good for highly sensitive ear people( I haven't tried it but they say so, I will definitely buy it if this norm about FD11 is really true according to you too).Similarly I would use sensitive ear friendly headphones? I don't know even a single one like that, so can't name any headphone? Do you think hifiman sundara will produce similar friendly sound like FD11 or any other you know? With not less qualities similar or much better? With all similar qualities
is JT1 an upgrade for SHP9500? SHP9500 is good except for the bass, very lackluster. Considering I listen to techno and hip-hop, good bass is crucial. If not, any other headphone you suggest similar price range?
For your type of music I recommend you check my review on Harmonic Dyne Black Hole instead, it has more Bass. JT1 is tuned to be not too Bassy, a bit more uncolored
Thanks!,its a awesome review, but my english its really bad..XD This or takstars Hf580 for hiphop and edm?,what are the principal diferences? Thanks and salute from Spain!,new suscriber!

Both being well balanced with overall dynamic range spread, airy decays, good resolution and not offensive. The main significance, JT1 being a headphone offer more open sense to staging vs EW200 and more immersive too
The user experience will be different as JT1 is larger and more comfortable. Sound wise, Supernova is more neutral and transparent where JT1 is more colored in comparison
Is Abigail Pro adequate for use with these headphones, or do I need a DAC/amp to get better performance? If a DAC/amp is advisable, could you please recommend one that pairs well without significantly surpassing the headphones' price, considering it's a budget-friendly option? Thank you.
@@donglemadnesshow about moondrop dawn pro. Is it suitable and will improve jt1’s sound quality? im using iphone 15 and been reading issues ibasso dc03 pro with iphone. whats your take?
hi Andy, im usually use iem and want to try headphones. what do you think about the sound quality of headphones compared to iem in the same price bracket, let’s say this jt1 compared to iem in the same bracket. is this worth to buy?
With the advancement of IEM tech nowadays, I must admit that similarly priced IEMs which are tuned properly tend to offer better sonic qualities. But then the purpose of headphones can be vastly different, and no IEM can match the openness of sound or headstage especially when compared against open back variants. So they serve different listening experiences with wider sense of sound perspective, and that is why I use headphones equally as much as I use IEMs
Many reviewers are termed it as bass head headphone, rock n metal r go to genre for me. U gave it a fairly neutral balanced sound, no coloration. Can u help me out whether this headphone will work out for me considering I hv ibasso dc04 pro, fiio btr5 2021 n dongle cxpro, jm45. Please clear me again whether it is open or close back as I find online mentioned as closed back. Thanks 😊
If JT1 to be compared with Sennheiser HD600 or even Sundara, then yes it has bit more Bass, but not something I consider as a Basshead headphone, if you compare JT1 with others like HarmonicDyne Black Hole or KOSS Porta-Pro which are known Basshead headphones. The boost on Bass for JT1 is mild. Also factor in that my JT1 was reviewed well after 150 hours of burn-in and usage, most DD headphones tend to have thicker Bass pre burn-in and I know many reviewers review their stuffs almost straight out of the box. JT1 is a hybrid closed/open, you can check my update in the description of this video how I found out, I opened my JT1 and it uses thick fabric with foam instead of fully enclosed chassis
@@donglemadness really well said, I agree abt burn in as I get similar result on many of my iems. I was considering to go for JT1 under 100 usd so will go now. Also hd curious abt hifiman he400se tht I will consider later.
Let me just clarify upfront, I know BL-03 is popular but to me personally I really dislike it for being bloated with Bass and exceedingly colored and slow with dynamic transients, but it is not for me to judge it (this is purely my own taste and preferences). FD11 on the other hand to me is a far superior IEM with much better balance of dynamic presentation and close to neutral target, it is crisp as it is smooth sounding, for my taste and preferences, FD11 all the way
@@donglemadness A audiophile worker of a company suggested me FD11 over anything else and blon bl 03 under 50$ because I have extremely sensitive ears and love his suggestion.Blon bl-03 is somewhat similar to FiiO FD11 in terms of sounding as they say but over hyped in comparison to FD11 as you said,as you said boss FD11 is on a mountain compared to blon 1st class kid😅, but me as a biginner want another suggestion too to buy with similar qualities at another mount everest quality iem compared to FD11,is it possible to buy much much above FD11 with similar qualities and not harsh treble at all or paying more will not be worth as this one,but much much much better for witch series type sounds and jhon wick etc under 140$. Please suggest me as my ears are weak.
Price is no longer a measure of quality, when you have something like KZ ZVX or DF-i offering more resolution and crisper imaging for macro/micro details compared to this headphone. You want a headphone because it offers different wearing experience
On dynamic drivers especially, burn-in is crucial and in the case of my JT1, this review was done only after over 100 hours of runtime. It does sound sharper/brighter out of the box but now much smoother
It's really weird that this headphones is not as well known as the moondrop joker even though pretty much all the big reviewer reviewed the joker. Is it because fiio is not sending them the jt1 or what because this is a really really good headphones for the price, punches above it's price range and really easy to drive
@@donglemadness yeah man, but the ft3 and the ft5 are getting reviewed and making big splash with pretty much all the big reviewers. I don't know if fiio is holding it down before the ft1 release or the tuning is not a popular one for them but it's really weird that a really good headphones for the price is not getting the recognition. It's not gonna beat the hd600 but it shows the progression that you can get a good headphones for 80 bucks. Well I'm waiting for the day that a chifi brand will make a new benchmark headphones in the sub 200 usd mark. Only time will tell and sorry about the rant Andy

Do you have something like a list of headphones you recommend? This was super helpful and I want to compare more headphones specifically for gaming!
Thanks. I don;t have such a list as my coverage on headphones are still limited. Perhaps later when I have enough numbers I can start building one
Maybe check out the IEMs
Awesome review! I was wondering how these would sound with the Fiio KA17 dongle DAC amp? Just curious 🤔
With KA17, the combo is energetic and highly dynamic sounding with clean imaging and resolution - perfect for Pop or Electronic Music

Both are equally good literally as they are built on exact same DAC in the most minimal implementation for ultra compact form factor
