I would really like to hear the er2 and possibly mh750 segment of that. I legitimately swear by both of these, one is what got me to ultimately get er2s for the noise isolation alone.
Dont need one. If you're into IEMS you probably spend every second of your time arguing on reddit about frequency response graphs, but don't actually know how to interpret one in any meaningful way
You nailed me with Sennheiser. Don't need an upgrade path if it's already one of the best! Just get on with the music! Also CRTs have unparalleled response time and analogue signal standards are fascinating. It's disappointing how homogeneous tech is now.
I have Meze's 99 and Liric. I have been eyeing up a Herman Miller Eames chair set (edit, not so much to realise they don't have the rights to Eames chairs in Europe!). I have also owned fragile Italian cars (one Alfa had 2 engines, three wiring looms and a full suspension replacement). I also have the LCD-X and fulfill the strong neck, gamer and sci-fi parts. And I only got that because I couldn't think of any other progression up from a Sennheiser HD600, but still maintaining that general reference/"accurate" sound. (Edit: but with a touch more bass/sub-bass) My strong neck helped with the continuous nodding of approval through this video.
Get yourself at least a Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee on sale. They sound much more detailed, separated and clear, but still have that warmth that reminds of Koss. I love mine, and I have kilobuck headphones too.

The Audio Technica bit is so spot on. I really do care about it lasting forever, since I have other hobbies, which i am -addicted to- interested in. Though, I care if it sounds good or not. Since I listen to pretty much all genres of music, I prefer neutral/balanced sound. But I have a feeling that I will not be able to tell a difference between good and decent headphones. I have used Sony MDR-XB950AP, ATH M50X, Tin HiFi T4, Echobox Audio Finder X1 and some bad stuff like A4Tech, Razer, etc. Between all of them, Sony and gaming abominations are bad.
Well you can tell the difference between ALL headphones since they have a very distinct character. Good speakers almost don't have a character, if you closed your eyes, you'd have a hard time, you can still tell but it's hard. Headphones are all quite different. So don't sell yourself short by suggesting that you might not tell the difference, just go ahead and try it. As to AT in my opinion M50x is almost an abomination, like most of it is good, then there's a painful sibilant peak and after 12k there's NOTHING. I think M40x is actually great though.
@@SianaGearz When I was choosing my first decent pair of headphones, I read a lot of reviews (ZeosPantera, Amazon, Reddit and etc.) about M50x and M40x. In the end, I chose M40x. The only thing that changed my mind was the fact that I was building an all white PC build. Because of that, I went for M50x, since some people said that the difference is not so marginal between M50x and M40x. Since I always listen to music at low dB, the bright part of M50x does not bother me at all. Now that I think about it, I think that I actually prefer for a slightly bright sound signature, so I can decipher if the song is bad by design or if it is that good.
this was my challenge. I am a long distance runner and have to use a m audio bass booster mini amp and stuck in apple architecture so i get iphone headphone amp out. 5 years long at least 1500 miles running in 36 countries, still going!!!
I've been using the same pair of ATH-M50's as my only headphones for the last ~10-ish years. I recently got an new pair (Hifiman Sundara) and the difference is definitely appreciable. The sound signature feels rather similar between the two, everything is just cleaner and wider. I'm sure someone somewhere will have issue with me making that comparison, but due to some hearing damage the finer points of tuning and technicality get a bit lost on me anyway. I say this as I was in the same camp as you, not sure if I'd be able to appreciate a fancier set of cans, but after making the jump I'm wondering why I didn't do it sooner lol. I gotta give it to the M50's though! They still work like the day I bought them, the headband is just falling apart and keeps leaving black flecks of pleather is my hair. Been through 3 sets of ear cups and like 5 cables, but they just keep on working.
My audiophile headphones consist of ZMFs, Focals, a HiFiman and a vintage Audeze. I like Grand Seiko, listen to whole albums on actual media discs, prefer baths, handmade leather wallets, seen a boatload of sci fi movies and will freely offer my political opinion sans prompting.
As somebody with a collection of various Sennheiser, AKG, Sony, Audeze and Beyerdynamic headphones (and in ears) all I've got to say is that you have f'ing nailed it. 😉
Sennheiser HD 560S fan here. Still sticking by this because it has yet to let me down. Neutral with a tinge of warm bass and amazing tuning for mixing. And watching movies is a treat with its separation.
I feel like I have been most of these in my 20yr audiophile journey. Started at koss, ended up at Koss lol (if talking most hrs used, hands down kph30i) There needs to be 100% more 'just the driver' on-ear audiophile headphones. Isnt it obvious if Koss can get magic at $20-40, imagine at $1000 with less restrictions!!
When I got my Massdrop Porta Pros when they came out years ago, I couldn't believe how lo-fi yet how awesome they sounded. I instantly thought of live music through paper speakers. My pricey headphones sounded much better, but were missing that warm, lively feel. I miss those Porta Pros!
As a car enthusiast who owns a lot of Lego, watched this while wearing a heavily modified pair of bass cannon Fostex T20RPs, and is currently working on giving another pair of mildly abused second hand T50RPs the full Open Alpha treatment, I feel called out.
I don't own Stax yet, but I'd been considering it. Now I'm considering it more - My favorite colorway is indeed piano black and my dream car is somewhere between a Toyota Century and an LS460 AWD with a huge supercharger. I already have the Seiko. And me and my HDR180 wireless senns do enjoy HD CRTs, yes.
Very entertaining! It tickled my funny bone several times. I'm a Grado owner and still found what you said ASBOLUTELY RIGHT. 🤣 (I do own Focal, too, though, in fairness to me... 😏)

My fist "audiophiles" headphones were the m50x. They get overhated. Honestly with just a little bit of eq they sound great. I used them on my rooted lg v60 with that sweet sweet quad dac and they are a blast to listen to.
can confirm that the M50 do last almost forever. bought mine like... 12 years ago. Tossed it on a bin some solid 6 years ago, and just found the damn thing again after going through all my "junk" i've forgotten over the time. The pad got absolutely shredded, but the headphone itself? It's still kicking dang it.
This video was amazing, KPH30i for life !!!! plus I am shopping for a DCA set. Sennheiser was spot on, I only have the 58x, which got all the bass the 600 was missing. I am wondering if my dislike for iPhones is related to my indifference toward the Hifman ( I own the 400se ).
Currently a Focal guy, bought a Radiance and Clear MG for half price each, coming from a Hifiman Sundara, and my first studio grade headphones were the Sennheiser and Massdrop HD58X Jubilee. I love Focal a lot, but secretly still really love Sennheiser too. When it comes to audio equipment, I will only ever use Schiit

Started with audio-technica and moved to Sennheiser, and damn you nailed it.... honestly to meaningfully upgrade means more $s than I can really justify right now.
Love my ZMF’s. Love my DCA’s. I don’t do the candle or cigar thing. My main source of listening is a vast collection of albums and CD’s. I don’t do the download thing and I still buy CD’s. A good headphone and system will make you forget about any analysis and pull you into the performance/enjoyment of the music! This is why you wind up listening to whole albums or lose track of time.

I bought a stabilized ZMF Caldera over the summer. What this says about me is that I enjoy eating noodles and Bologna sandwiches to offset the cost of the Caldera
You nailed me spot on. I have a 99 Noir and a Maxwell that I daily drive. I love the industrial design of the Bauhaus era though the 50/60's, though a large part of that is due to the fact that I am in architecture. And yes, Charles and Ray Eames are phenomenal designers and I wish their chairs weren't so goddamn expensive! As far as the other half, I'm also a gamer with a love of bass, warmer, or v-shaped sound signature. Oh and I do have a strong neck.
Fostex 909s is my music gaming everyday headphone. Yes I like good bass! When I want to sip Tea with my pinky out while listening to music I use Audeze XCs
My number 1 is Sennheiser. I also own many other headphones, whether they’re for mixing and mastering, casual listening, or high resolution headphones. Wired, Bluetooth, ANC, in ears, open back, closed back, cheap horrible headphones and whatever you can think of in this realm of personal audio.
I love my audiotechnica ad700x's mainly for how lightweight and comfy they are, the great sound stage and decent enough fidelity is a nice bonus too. Thinking about getting one of the nicer Adxxx models
I have Bayerdynamic and Sennheiser. I don't love them but the are just a tool for me, a good tool to point out mistakes in the mixes when I am done with the studio monitors
I love my super lightweight mouse when I'm gaming. I love my Audeze Maxwell headphones when I produce music and watching Dune part one with dolby atmos activated was basically the highlight of the year for me. This is proof that I picked the right headphones 😂
Who is this hilarious audio hipster? Cause this was a good laugh. And my man uses 4:3 aspect ratio. Truly a refined being of class who we must all aspire to be in one aspect of our lives.
Actually Grados are the headphones which are the most easy to mod since you can fit any aftermarket ear pads onto them by drawing cardboard donuts to slip over the cups as a adapter for any size or shaped pad. The metal headband can fit any head as long as your not opposed to hand fitting and bending them like they are suppose to be used. With different aftermarket ear pads you literally get to tune the sound stage to what ever you want and get exactly the comfort you want. Only thing missing is just an option for detachable cables.
I was ready to move on from my ATH-m40x. Then the new earpads arrived, and I got to dump the old velour pads, and now I'm happy with it again. I even have to set aside my newly bought Hifiman HE400se.
I had a good laugh as someone with a size 19 neck who really likes the LCD-XC. Also, was 100% prepared for something about Audeze and a compulsion to EQ everything
Sennheiser user here. Although there is no upgrade path for me at this point, that’s okay. Also yes bass is a delicious fish and I prefer my 165hz Asus monitor over CRTs.
My endgame headphones are indeed LCD-X (2021), I don`t produce music but I have over 12,000 songs in the house genre from the last decade. Almost spot on!
K371 endgame gang... turns out I care about tuning and very low distortion way more than any other aspects and the 371's nail both of those. Bonus points for being ridiculously easy to drive.
just a note on video production here. i appreciate the 4:3 but idk if you're utilising it to the best of your ability. i understand you went through a lot of headphones but when 90 percent of the video is that white background plain black font and png of the headphone with you in a bubble on the right, the video at times felt like a 2009 movie maker youtube video. just some thoughtful feedback warranted or not. i reckon for your reviews it'll look sick, especially if you maintain uploading at 4k because 1080p on youtube is compressed to smithereens. nice clean titles and clever edits in the future will definitely get the most out of 4:3.
i saw the original video like yesterday wow! i like how you didnt mention any headphones by apple or anything consumer-brand, since litterally no one that uses that is even here.
I love my Beyerdynamic dt177x. I'm a violinist, secretly love tastefully elevated bass, and often wear custom earplugs because I fear hearing loss, primarily due to my instrument. Sibilance is like salt, you keep going until it’s almost too much and that’s the perfect amount (kidding about Sibilance, it literally makes my ears bleed). I tried removing the inner padding that massdrop added to the 177x go and my head almost exploded.
It might be because I have the cheapest model, Meze 99 Noir, but I'm not into Italian cars nor am I partial to Braun alarm clocks. That being said this was a funny video to watch. We definitely need a TWS, both for over-ears and in-ears, and a iem video. It's all good fun; I will admit I bought the 99 Noir with durability and repairability in mind.
@@PartyMusic775 Not even remotely close. It would be interesting, though, to see if the description fit more closely on someone who owns a higher tier Meze headphone (Empryreon I or II, Lyric, 109 Pro, etc.) rather than someone who owns a 99 series.
Thank you to Best Buy for sponsoring this video! You can check out their Asus Chromebook Plus CM3401 here (affiliate link):go.magik.ly/ml/1y46h/
I have a pencil-thin neck, which is the reason why my Audeze LCD2 leaves its case ONLY when I change the silica gel packets. 🥴

3:17 holy fucking shit this video is the best one yet, you know your shit, the 90-00’s young rock band fashion description was on point
The Sennheiser part was accurate xD. I own one and I am in love this headphone. It's so comfortable for my ears and it sounds good enough for me
That abyss take was perfect! And we all know who this is explaining lol
lmfao work bud is a *huge* Grado-fan. Spot on man, lol.
Just watched his vid before this, can't help but wanting more
Loved it, again with IEMs!
That was great!
So, what does your music format say? LP, MiniDisc, cassette tape, reel-reel, CD, Streaming, radio?
My collection right now is ZMF / Meze / Sennheiser / and yes I have a Grado... I accept these stereotypes.
I just had a little shiver down my spine. I do have a secret love for CRT monitors as I love my old school gaming.
You nail'd ever shure fanboy I have ever known. Loved this!
Who is this hilarious audio hipster? Cause this was a good laugh. And my man uses 4:3 aspect ratio. Truly a refined being of class who we must all aspire to be in one aspect of our lives.
I have two fostex and goddamn, I do love legos, I have modified my car, and I do like bass.
Ok other than the horrible cigar candle thing, that ZMF description was dead on. I'm like "How does he know I always listen by album!?"
Me with my Koss headphones: Yeees, I do in fact listen to tons of music that I didn't pirate.
My Koss ESP95Xs: ._.
Sennheiser user here. Although there is no upgrade path for me at this point, that’s okay. Also yes bass is a delicious fish and I prefer my 165hz Asus monitor over CRTs.
Wow... The roast 🔥 is real! The Pontiac Aztec should NEVER be seen as a luxury vehicle. But bass is a delicious fish.
Listening to this on my everyday Monk earbuds, same class as Koss? They basically fade away in my ears.
love that Best Buy sponsored this ROAST
My endgame headphones are indeed LCD-X (2021), I don`t produce music but I have over 12,000 songs in the house genre from the last decade. Almost spot on!
ZMF Atrium + LCD 2.2 PF + SONY MDR Z1R and I love anime music, games, sci-fi, and cigars/whiskey.
The fact that you had me stare at my soft couch while listening to you through harmonic dyne zues made me happy
K371 endgame gang... turns out I care about tuning and very low distortion way more than any other aspects and the 371's nail both of those. Bonus points for being ridiculously easy to drive.
I was DYING of laughter this whole time 🤣 Bravo good sir!
Also... Hifiman and Sennheiser fanboy here... and I feel SEEN
👋
just a note on video production here. i appreciate the 4:3 but idk if you're utilising it to the best of your ability. i understand you went through a lot of headphones but when 90 percent of the video is that white background plain black font and png of the headphone with you in a bubble on the right, the video at times felt like a 2009 movie maker youtube video. just some thoughtful feedback warranted or not. i reckon for your reviews it'll look sick, especially if you maintain uploading at 4k because 1080p on youtube is compressed to smithereens. nice clean titles and clever edits in the future will definitely get the most out of 4:3.
As an owner of the HEDDphone I feel you nailed it with the chill, soft spoken part, at least that’s what I’ve been told 😂😂
Liked the video. Would like an IEM sequel.
Bass is a type of fish defines the sennheiser headphone line-up SO WELL
Scary how accurate you got with Audeze don't have them yet but planning on buying one and all the thing you just described is exactly what I am. 😂😅
Apparently ZMF are the certified dad headphones? Love your content
Really nice of you to give credit to the "original" idea guy :)
Hifiman is so accurate
i saw the original video like yesterday wow!
i like how you didnt mention any headphones by apple or anything consumer-brand, since litterally no one that uses that is even here.
My Audio Technica M50, AD700, and EM7GM from 2011 will never die!
You didn't mention Phillips so I feel safe.
It's all good fun; I will admit I bought the 99 Noir with durability and repairability in mind.
bet you got a Braun electric shaver and like Italian food, though
@@PartyMusic775 Not even remotely close. It would be interesting, though, to see if the description fit more closely on someone who owns a higher tier Meze headphone (Empryreon I or II, Lyric, 109 Pro, etc.) rather than someone who owns a 99 series.
