    as a kid in the late 80's, I was discouraged from watching the show. I thought it was "slow" and "boring", and my parents thought he was too "phony". Years later, as an adult, I went through a horrible break-up, and fell head first into a 7 year depression where I was just.... existing....
    Self-loathing and sabotage were the norm. Then, when the movie was being made, all things Mr. Rogers was popping up, and I decided to check out an episode.
    ...I broke....
    From the first 2 minutes, all the way until he said his "I like you just the way you are", I was crying and for the first time.... in a *very* long time, I actually felt better. So I'm grateful to the movie's team for reviving everyone's interest in Mr. Rogers, it brought me out of a very dark place in my life.

      I used to work driving skiers from the Salt Lake City airport to our local ski resorts. One day many years ago I had a young woman passenger who for whatever reason started ragging on Mr. Rogers, going so far as to call him "insipid". I told her I wasn't going to argue with her, but my two-year-old daughter believed he was talking to her, and when he asked a question she responded. Yes, Fred Rogers was real, and a real inspiration to countless young children over the decades.

      He left it up to us to pick up where he left off. We need to show that we learned from what he taught us. I propose that more shows need to be like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood instead of focusing on entertainment value like Teen Titans Go or SpongeBob SquarePants. Not to say that these shows are bad, but they are taking up too much time on television and leaving practically no time for true educational programs.

    I was born in 2000 and when I was about four, my parents got me Mr. Roger's Neighborhood on VHS. I watched it every day, learning that kindness can go a long way and that I was unique in my own special way. When I was growing up, I wasn't really liked by the other kids in my class. I was always the outsider and was the one that sat alone for the majority of my school life. However, I never hated them or even considered retaliating with violence, all because of what Mr. Rogers taught me when I was young. I thank that man for everything that he taught me. Later in his speech he asked us to take that “One Silent Minute”. Thanks to UA-cam I can watch that speech any time I want. I didn’t get to shake his hand, but my mom did (part of her job on commencement day included making sure everyone who was to be on stage was in place for the procession). • @christineparis5607
      @christineparis5607 4 роки тому +30

      @@NeekSquad
      You have absolutely no evidence to back up your statements. insistence that bullying is only about disabilities etc. or that shaming is only applicable to certain situations is just labeling, which is simplistic. Psychologists, doctors and counselors could easily show examples of children who have no apparent "defects", who were bullied out of school. Many children are given invented faults by others (nicknames, about a perceived weakness is an example). To tell a child who is viciously bullied to just get over it is doing further damage. Some children with psychological damage that is severe at home or at school, cannot heal themselves. To blame them for not overcoming it is scapegoating. It also gives the bullies permission to continue to take their bullying to further levels. One reason there is so much attention paid to this issue today is because bullied children who cannot recover (the way you think they should) are proven to carry the damage into adulthood, self medicating with drugs, smoking or alcohol, having difficulty with relationships, or inflicting abuse on their own children to continue the cycle. Child and spousal abuse is shown to have its roots in bullying the abuser experienced as a child that was never addressed, stopped or healed. It is not weakness if someone cannot get over systematic efforts to destroy them. Please look up the effects of gaslighting, minimizing, narccisst parental abuse and scapegoating. I think you will horrified to learn that your attitude is common and leads to part of the reason there are so many people in the world that have severe anxiety issues. The issue of overcoming bullying is not simple, and to insist that there is a uniform solution that applies to everyone is naive.

    A recent article about Tom Hanks and Fred Rogers mentioned that in real life, the two men are distant cousins. How amazing!

      @@s4xtt : The article didn't say if that had anything to do with his being cast for the part but it certainly is interesting don't you think?

    If you were a kid living in Pittsburgh and learned how to use the phone book, you could look up Fred Rogers's phone number and call him. He would help you with your homework, chat with you for a bit or let you know it was time for bed if you were calling too late. He never said to stop calling, always asked your name and if you called a second time, would remember things you talked about the first time. He was a special human being. We need him now. I hope he is embracing us and will carry us through the next few years.

    #1 made me cry. I used to watch Mr. Rogers when I was very young with my great-grandma, who passed away when I was about 13. It's sometimes hard to watch old re-runs of this show, but I find it more beautiful than ever now that I'm older, and I always try to take a silent minute to think of all those who made me who I am today whenever I'm sad.

    Fred Rogers was the speaker at my brother’s first graduation at Dartmouth. It was wonderful. Normally, Dartmouth selects a world leader like Madeline Albright when I graduated. And there were rumblings in the crowd in 2002 that he wasn’t the norm.
    But he spoke about fair play and how to bring the world together and that’s more important than conquering the world.

    From the minute they showed the neighborhood in the movie & I heard the trolley, I started to cry. I bawled through most of the movie. Fred Rogers was a beautiful soul.

    Mr. Rogers is the type of guy you’d like to go fishing with. Eat at a restaurant with. Overall a person that is loyal and trustworthy, genuinely caring for others. I’ve learned that he is my friend, as much as anyone else who also considers him as their friend. He’s a loving soul that is always there in our darkest moments, as well as our proudest. I’m happy that he is in my life. That he has been a great motivator for everyone in the world. That he has truly taught us what It means to be special. Thank you Mr. Rogers, you bring the good out of all of us :)

      As a grandma now, looking back at this, is has all the grooming tactics of pedo's. Being around a lot of little kids. Think of pervert Disney...now. I am thinking Rogers was a closet gay. Can't help it. Hetero males don't want to be around a bunch of little kids. MJ had his NEVERLAND. The ELMO guy, Clash, is gay & pedo. So many red flags for me. Maybe even Rogers didn't know he was gay. DENIAL is very strong. Kevin Stacy. I won't be watching this movie.
