Chrisfix would've changed the rear main seal as preventive maintenance, along with the pilot bearing.
Yep.. all that trouble to get to it you would think they would have done that. Not like it's a ton of money to replace those.
Agree with you there! Why not just do it?
@Chuck Taylor Yea I have never thought the work done here was exceptional by any means.
Chrisfix is awesome

He's both entertaining, and super helpful. I love watching his videos, and I don't even own a car anymore.
“Make sure you use a 2 post lift. We wouldn’t even attempt this on jack stands”
Cleetus Cooper and James: Hold my beer and watch us do this countless times at the track on jack stands
lol I've seen my buddy remove hsi entire drivetrain and motor on his f1x c6z twice in a day, and put it back in twice as well all in the same single day. He's powered by about 40k of weed a year though
Cleetus can change out a clutch in both his vettes in under a hour
HELL Yeah Brotha
Johnathan Gillespie best reply ever 👌🏽😂😂
To be fair though, can we really call Leroy a Corvette anymore?
@@sparkplug1018 The title states it.
@@MedicatedOMO We all know what the car is based on. But come on is it really a Corvette anymore.
C6’s will always be the best vette in my eyes. Especially the zr-1
I think the look is perfect 👍😁
Idk a 2019 zr1 with a wing delete is the fastest and prettiest Corvette
Soundz By Que _ I actually like the C6Z06 better thanthe C6ZR1, but imo the C7 Z’s look better than any vett to date
I use to think that but the c7 is so much better in every facet imaginable. When you get inside a c6 they feel so dated. Fuck my GTO kills a c6 interior and comfort wise.
Jacob Herron yea of course. I drove one before and you absolutely right about the interior. Then again i’m not worry about interior I like performance lol. C7s are very beautiful cars.
I’m so glad that this UA-cam channel exists. I’m addicted to this stuff
I have about $45k total invested in my 2008 Z06 (I know it's not worth that much. Engine upgrades costed around $10k - money I'll never see again, but it sure makes the car fun!). Anyway, it's just a naturally aspirated Heads/cam/exhaust LS7. No supercharger, turbos, or nitrous. Since it weighs just 3100 pounds, and now produces 660 hp, it will outperform any stock C7 Z06, Hellcat Redeye, and even the 2020 C8. The LS7 (with aftermarket heads) is a beast of a motor. It's the most fun I have ever had driving on the street.
I would just do a cam/heads swap on that LS7. It'll produce about 625 hp and no blower and all the issues it brings with it. It's 1/3rd the cost of that blower kit. And if you're going to rip out the drive train to replace the clutch/flywheel, replace the $5.00 rear main seal.
@Chuck Taylor Yep. If you're going to remove the drivetrain, replace the stupid simple things that wear normally. Especially on a car that has been beaten to death. I wouldn't want this car.
I love the look of the C6 Z06 idk why even though it doesn’t look that much different from a regular coupe its just a great looking car
A brand new 18 minute video on C6 Z06 in 2019 ... I'm freaking aroused.

Thanks for this Vid, Guys! Gave me a kickback of changing the clutch of a lancia integrale at night, in the winter at Monte Classics... Thumbs Up!

@@Sak-zo1ui ha great stuff
Very good show. Really helps to have a buddy and a lift. I have the same car, similar mods but use one of those quickjacks only 3ft lift and often no help.
Takes me 18 months to do this job in rare spare time.
I've always loved the C6 Z06 but I never realized how much of a pain in the ass it is to work on
A c5 is just as bad
"...pain in the ass..."
Just a gentle reminder that Colossians 3:8 instructs us not to use vulgar language. Ignore God's rules for living at your own peril.
@@jhrsjhrs In a mechanics garage all that no cussing bullshit goes right out the door
Reality instructs us differently in the real world.
They're actually very easy to work on. Don't let pulling the drivetrain out of the car intimidate you. It's very easy. One of if not the easiest car i have ever worked on.
His advice for a lift is great and I wish I had one when I replaced the clutch on my buddy's 240sx. 2 1/2 feet of space is so hard to work with.
That Corvette is beautiful. I hope to see the additional episodes online. (:
Great episode keep them coming!
I did this on a 09 zo6 on the floor with jack stands by myself.😂 probably one of the harder jobs I’ve done on jack stands .but it can be done also rebuilt the torque tube and added a twin disk . These cars are a lot of fun 👍🏻
Nice video. Since you had the torque tube out, I would have checked the couplers. They are known to fail and cause increased vibration. Cheap to through a couple new couplers in.
Awesome video. Love the older z06.
"We would never attempt this on a set of jack stands." I have done a clutch swap on a C5 Z06 and a C6 GS and both was on jack stands. I also was by myself the whole time. Its not easy and a lift is definitely a huge help but you can do it on jack stands just fine.
In addition to jack stands, did you have to use 1, 2 or 3 jacks during the process? Thanks
@deadend Nothing dangerous about putting a car up on jack stands, it's literally a safety device to use when you jack a car up so it doesn't collapse on you in the first place.
@deadend Not sure you've ever worked under a car on jack stands before, there is literally nothing dangerous about it. Less room, sure. But at the same time... you have a jack on the trans when you drop it in either situation anyhow.
@deadend Except we're talking about a jack **stand** not a jack. You need a jack for both the lift or the jack stands anyhow, for removal of any parts you're dropping from underneath. You're not under the car very much to drop a transmission, as you're lowering it down onto a jack to pull it out. A jack stand is the exact same material as a hydraulic lift, they're both steel. One just has a hydraulic cylinder to move it up and down. Sure the jack stands don't lift it up as high, but you don't need to stand under a car to work on it, your grandfather did it long before those lifts became wide spread. Guess what they used then?
I've done it three times and need to do it again. Damn slave cylinder is leaking. Not looking forward to it at all.
My favorite series so far
10:06 You can also just remove that bolt to the right and the shifter rod will slide off
awesome work guys
So glad I didn't have to wait until next week
If ya done an RaceProveMotorsports, "RPM," Cam package, w/ full intake & exhaust, they have made 650WHP, saved weight, prly cost less, and been a better car all around. Then put a blower on, lulz.
Haha ya I thought they were going to upgrade the heads and cam as that would definitely make it more competitive against the c7.
Advanced induction 280 cc cnc work on the stock heads, 1 7/8" headers, RPM B-3 cam (some are saying the actual spec is 243/259 .623 .623 116), ported Msd intake manifold, Halltec or Vararam intake, plus a good tune would have got them to 640-660 horsepower at the wheels (540-560 ft lbs of rear wheel trq)
@@GTStuning- I've always wondered what the specs were on that B-3 cam. Have these numbers been confirmed?
keep up the good work guys, but i woulda changed the rear seal n bearing and done the other motor mount as well
Love the show, wanna see some ramcharger bronco blazer jimmy stuff
Great upload!!
That should make them work, that’s some cool engineering right there
Nice video, thanks for sharing.
I'm not sure why you would buy a c6 z06 and supercharge it (unless you're building the motor). You can make over 600whp (650+ crank) with heads/cam/intake/headers. Let that 7L breathe!
Exactly why I stopped the video soon as i saw the blower. Disappointed they didn’t go max effort NA🤦🏾♂️
I can’t WAIT to get my c8 in July and turn my 12 grand sport into a super beat.....lets go!
I wish these guys could be the mechanic for my future vette!
PowerStop.. actually have a set on my 2014 V6 Mustang. They've worked pretty well so far. Think they're the Z23s.
Great pen collection.
I can confirm you can drop that driveline on jack stands. You’re cramped underneath it but you sure can do it.
DAYUM a supercharged LS7 sounds awesome !!!!!!
i honestly prefer the C6 over the C7, so this is awesome!
"on it's last leg" are you effing kidding me, that shit looks brand new.

Lol I pulled the subframe off the corvette about 5 times. On jack stands. Got good at it. Was able to do it in an hour. Not a bad job. Only thing that is annoying is the center heat shield.
Now I’ll tell you what. There isn’t a damn thing you can’t do on jack stands and a few busted knuckles. Changed a transmission in 3 foot of snow on jack stands

5:35 hahah slackers. I just did this one on my back by myself.
i never saw this kind of drive train before. i stick with the old school, but fascinating!
Did you have to loosen the motor mounts and jack up the engine to install the headers? Also, how did you get at the front two nuts on each cat pipe?
Love the c6 z06 - 10/10
You can easily do a clutch swap on these on jack stands. I sat and watched a guy do it in his garage.
Love the color guys
It's nice to see Amish Mike outside the dyno cell & getting some exercise working on a real car
I have a '06 ZO6 upgraded for street, canyons & track days. Engine is noramally asprirated with hotter cam, .010'" milled heads, ported, billet rockers and stronger push rods, and Kooks headers full system with lighter racing catalytic converters (passes CA smog, the long tube headers do not), and cold air induction box and a dyno remap for 650hp and mega torque right off idle. I do not believe in a supercharger as it adds at least 100+ lbs more (3250 stock + 100 = 3350lbs) over the front end. My car with the lighter Kooks full race system is just 2950 lbs! No need to upgrade the clutch (20,000+ miles with multiple track days and not a problem. Do it later only if needed).
Chassis is upgraded with Callaway Eibach Coil-0ver adjustable remote resevoir shocks and larger swaybars (huge handing improvement). Plus add late models C7 Z06 wheels with Michlin Pilot Cup 2 tires 305/19 front, 345/20 rear. 2-piece aluminum hub Brake Rotors save 8lbs per wheel over the stock steel 1-piece rotors. Running StopTeck race pads. Sparco carbon fiber buck seats provide much more support for the track. Lighter Brail battery.
Conclusion: Build a lighter 2950lb, normally aspirated 650hp C6 Z06 car to save a lot more weight for ever better overall performance, upgrade the brakes, add wider C7 Z06 wheels / tires to out corner and stop any other sports car in the world. :)
Feel like I just watched one really long commercial.
wish i had these guys skill and know how
Haven't watched the Video. The answer is absolutely yes. The C6Z doesn't need much at all to outperform a C7Z
Corrie Elieff msd TB too
You can make more than lt4 with an N/A setup on that ls7
I did. I spent 33k on my Z06 and 15k on my Supercharger, trans upgrades, and coilovers. 855rwhp later.
WOW!🙀😎👍
Kim Chi now it’s a super car killer 🤘
Cali Angler he spent $48,000 to beat a $70,000 hellcat stock my factory.
Pretty good numbers if you ask me.
Out another $15k in and you’d walk just about anything stock.
Jarrod G he could have easily gone the n/a route with doing his heads, bigger cam, some bolt ons and e85 and it would easily take out hellkitties all day
Cali Angler you're delusional
How the hell have I not found this channel sooner... UA-cam has failed me
I read somewhere that GM had built a 454LS engine based off the LS7427(really426). However they couldn't get it to pass emissions. So they moved on to adding blowers. But somewhere that engine exists.
It would be cool to see a Hotrod story about it!
Theres a lot of engines that GM (among others) have made that are along those lines. No doubt they made a LS 454, they were also developing a factory V12 and V16 at one point like 10-12 years ago. If you want to know where they are now, id say take a look at that soda can you may be drinking from and theres a good chance a bit of it is in there.
Genuine question. Why not Wilwood or Brembos? I mean other than sponsors LOL. Would you prefer powerstop or brembos/wilwoods?
Is this the same as changing the clutch or is this just for putting a different clutch ?
I would've replaced the pilot bearing also. The needle bearings go bad and can cause drive line vibrations. Being a GM technician and doing it under GM warranty, you were careful with checking all components didn't want to do the job for free.
They didn’t mention thread locker on the flywheel bolts, but surely they used some?
You can add a supercharger to a C6 and get equal power, but it will never keep up with the C7 as far as handling. Between the much stiffer frame to the electronic rear differential and electronic steering rack the C7 simply handles noticeably better. I've had both the C6 and currently have the C7, both Z06's, and the C7 is much more stable and planted, and gives you much more confidence in the twisties.
You don’t need boost in a c6 z. Heads , cam , ported msd intake, cold air , ported tb and you have 580-620whp na add e85 and you have 650 whp n/a. At the lowest and smallest cam 550-580 whp that will bot race a c7 z which makes 550-570 whp 580-600 wtq stock in both et and trap speed. You add boost and it’s not even fair for the c7 z it’s to heavy at 3570 the c6 z can weight 3109-3200 or less with light weight wheels and headers . Second those brakes are two heavy you want 2 piece rotors with aluminum hats those are one piece and heavy.
So beautiful car 💙💙💙
This would be a badass car to win
Haven’t seen the part where you all take it on the track at the Corvette museum, also didn’t see it on your playlist
Scratch the Super Charger if you do it right you can get 600 to 650 at the wheels N/A Heads / Cam / Intake / Exhaust / Throttle Body / Cold Air Intake /Injectiors / Fuel System etc. Probably need a stronger clutch too
This show is awesome, it reminds me of the old 4x4 show
Honestly the C4 ZR1 and C6 ZR1 are my favorite Corvettes of all time
after having removed my c6 drivetrain twice using jackstands.. I'd definitely second the sentiment of using a lift if possible. I see now why so many C6 are heavily modded. It's so labor intensive to do some jobs it's almost better to just take the whole car apart one time and put all the mods on as you reassemble the car. I sure hope this car's torque tube couplers and bearings were at least inspected before being put back in. (yes, I realize this video old.) The C6 is a love/hate car for sure. Love driving on it, beginning to hate working on it.
Did y'all replace the valve guides because the LS7 is notorious for dropping valves

Should’ve changed the main rear seal while you were in there. Also why not a single turbo to make power?
Nice job, why not just replace both motor mounts?.
That's super wet!!! I would so love to have that!! That car must break necks lol
Do this with a 61 to 67 corvette and I'd be interested to see it!
Does anyone use threadlocker on the flywheel or pressure plate bolts?
Also, I always thought C5 and later Corvettes have a rear transaxle...? A combination transmission-differential unit. This is clearly not the case as the video shows the transmission and differential being separated.
