best video on UA-cam on this topic.... thank you
Good video, good commentary, very helpful, helped me fix my problem thank you!! Nice bracelet 🤘🤘🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you, I watched your video, and was able to confirm and identify my vacuum pump was bad and also track that my heater vacuum hose was bad after identifying the main ports were good, you saved me a lot of money. I like this style of videos.
Thanks bud
Dang brother. Thanks for the video. I have a '00 7.3L 350 that blows cold air out of the defrost only. Thanks for going over all of the usual suspects.
Very helpful video troubleshooting a defrost-only situation on a buddy's 2000 F350 diesel. Turned turned out both hoses that were integral to vacuum motor had splits. Replaced hoses & system now works perfectly!
Best video I've seen on this subject. Thanks guys.
it took me more time to get the pump than to install it., great information. thank you!!!!
Excellent video, found my leak on my 07 F360 in about 5 minutes after watching
Gotta love them F360's😊
Awesome video, I have the same issue with my 05 6.0 right now. Gonna try this diag today. Thx man
Thanks for the information. Just what I needed to know
thanks Man, fixed the 7.3 excursion vacuum leak in 5 minutes.
Good deal. Glad it helped
Thank you much, well done very informative!
Great job
Very helpful thank you
Excellent!
Thanks...very informative
Wow, this is /was a really great video. Should a lot of info in a short time. Including the routing of the lines. I will be working on mine soon.
Good video!
Great video
Thanks
Might wanna clean battery post. Thanks for sharing
I have a similar problem on a 2WD ( no 4WD vacuum solenoid ). Defrost only. Leak was caused by a disconnected vacuum connector under the glovebox! Winter boots maybe? It just hangs in the open. Black & white hoses. Had to replace the burned out vacuum pump too.
Those come unplugged all the time from peoples feet once the plastic holder for them breaks.
Solid video.
Two queations:
What fuse serves the vacuum pump?
What size of tubing?
I would have to look at the fuse panel brake down, never had one not getting power to the connector. Not sure on hose size for that small of hose, I could pick it out by eye but if you need to patch a broken or cracked line just cut a small piece off and go to your local parts or hardware store and match it up.
good video learned a lot, did my volt test at the wire no volts either wire so I know it gotta be a short fuse is good, any ideas where to start, thanks
Key was in run position correct?
I plugged the hose on the diverter valve and still same results?
Thanks for this
2004 F250 gas, a/c works great. Make a hard right turn and then it blows hot for the rest of the drive. Any suggestions
Blend door must be loose or vacuum pod isn’t holding it secure
What about 4WD auto hubs sticking? And a slow intermittent vacuum leak while driving normal in 2WD causing pump to kick on every 4-6 mins??
I have same issues but noticed my vacuum lines to my hubs are gone
That's that helped. The 4x switch was leaking. Bypassed that . Everything thing works inside. But even when switch on control is off pump still runs
What was the size of that clear hose. Would be handy to keep some of that around. Thanks!! Great video.
Can’t tell you the size off hand but I keep a roll in the shop for vacuum line repair
Use vacuum rated hose if you can.
what if I am mot getting 12v to switch start with fuses and which # would it be under. 2002 7.3 excursion
@@joselongoria392 are you having a crank problem or a vacuum pump problem
@@AutomedicGarage I checked like you did and had 12V at connector and the damn dorman pump was bad. So I exchanged for another and it stated to pump like yours did in the video. Thank you again
👍
Does the 1991 F350 super duty gas engine have the same pump? Or does it use the engine vacuum?
If it’s a gas burner it relies on manifold vacuum from the engine.
I have vent and defrost and floor with no pump coming on and no hubs move?
Maybe the 4x4 actuator valve then or you have a vacuum leak on 4x4 lines
I have a 2001 f250 2wd with the 7.3. my vacuum pump doesn’t turn off unless I put a finger on the white connector.
I see that nothing needs to be connected there, lines under glovebox all fine.
What else could I check?
You have a leak somewhere. Could be at a vacuum pod or the vacuum pod itself or if you have a heater control valve at it. Could have a cracked vacuum container. Go through everything I checked in the video.
Did you figure it out ?
@@LemonySnicket-EUC not yet, will be a while until I get to it
Not getting power for the 4 wheel drive.... I've checked vacuum didn't hear or see anything unusual..... so what control the power ? To turn on?.
2000 7.3 super duty, power stroke, 8 foot bed
@@matthewturchan6286 when you say your not getting power to 4 wheel drive are you referring to your mode switch in the dash? Is your 4x4 auto or manual hubs? Or are you referring to power to the vacuum pump? Is the 4x4 vacuum actuator on the passenger fender present plugged in and functioning? Are you vacuum lines from the actuator to the spindles present and in good working order? Do you have 12v at the vacuum pump? Is the fuse good for the vacuum pump?
Could that be a reason why I don’t get 4WD to the front wheels unless I lock my hubs up ?
More than likely, could also be a leak from the old vacuum hoses going to your locking hubs.
@@AutomedicGarage I will check my vac hoses to the hubs tomorrow thanks
2007 superduty 6.0
When on max ac it blows from vents and defrost ??? Any idea on what could be causing that
May be making a small amount of vacuum which is keeping it in the next slot back from full default mode which is defrost. Check for leaks. Is you pump running constantly?
@@AutomedicGarage I’ll be checking that tomorrow. I’ve seen some videos on how to check for leaks. I was thinking a weak vacuum pump? Who knows it’s the original one from 2007
@@steventhorkelsen6478 hook a vacuum gauge to the main line into the vacuum pump see what it pulls down to and if it holds.
I put a pressure gage and it was 15 psi then the pump turned off? So
Mine did too: means the pump is working properly.
My pump turns off and still it blows front the defrost. Could it be the actuator?
Very well could be check the lines going through and onto the other side of the firewall.
@AutomedicGarage I just went ahead and hooked the pump straight to the line coming from the firewall and it blows cold ac. So I'm thinking it's the hub or the lines along the way. Or vacum box
Would a 97 7.3l belt driven vacuum pump use this same diagnosis? My pump is pulsing nonstop is that normal?
Kinda, on the obs trucks I first hook a vacuum gauge straight to the line on the back of the pump and see what my vacuum is which should produce around 25 of vacuum and not drop below 15. After that I hook up the the vacuum manifold and see what it drops to when depressing the brake pedal and using the hvac controls and see what it does under a load. Hope that helps some.
@@AutomedicGarage my problem is a brake pedal not returning. At the vacuum pump I got 23 1/2 with a gauge. At the end of the hose to the booster 22 1/2 . At the hose going to the hvac is 23. When disconnecting the hose to brake booster the brake pedal comes back up. Hard to depress but comes up. I have installed a new brake booster and new MC. What do you think is the problem?
@@AutomedicGarage using the hvac hose because it’s the longest that I can put up to the windshield using the vac gauge . It reads 23 and when pressing on brake it drops to 20 then climbs back up to 23. Brake pedal still not returning.
@@petervang9523 I’ve had a couple OBS trucks do the same and had rear brake shoes completely gone or adjusted way to loose. Just a thought.
When is the vacuum pump supposed to be running? Anytime the key is in the on position?
Anytime it sees less than 15 of vacuum with key on
What is that oval thing between the pump and the battery? It says ford on it.
@@TheHighrider3 vacuum canister, it stores enough vacuum to do operation so the pump doesn’t kick on constantly
Thanks
Should there air coming out the niple with no hose on it?
The white nipple, yes that’s the exhaust of the vacuum pump
Ok my pump just runs so I have a leak somewhere
Thanks for ur help . Sorry to keep asking questions
@@buddyluv5 your good, just start isolating items on the vacuum system like I did in the video and narrow it down.
Do you know if the wipers need vacuum to operate?
Wipers are electric only. Vacuum is for HVAC controls and locking hubs only.
@@AutomedicGarage thanks for your response. Currently trying to figure out my vacuum problems. Sorry one more question. So if I have the manual locking hubs does it still need vacuum?
@@buzzybee8358 do you hubs just have “lock and open” on them or “manual and auto” on them?
It is just lock and open
@@buzzybee8358 so you have true manual locking hubs so you don’t use vacuum for your hubs at all. I like those better anyways and usually convert the auto hubs to manual warn or Mile marker hubs.
The canister easy to install?
@@johnnycortez46 yea, unplug the vacuum line and remove 3 11mm nuts on the bottom side of inner fender well.
@@AutomedicGarage Cool deal. Thank you
Do you happen to know if a 2006 has a check valve on the vacuum system?
@@johnnycortez46 no check valve
Found one line disconnected and pump achieves vacuum but still nothing any ideas?
What isn’t working? Locking hubs? A/C controls?
@@AutomedicGarage no 4wd ESOF or A/C controls
@@tylerwhite5015 you have no vacuum to controls then.
The thing is the vacuum pump shuts off after about 60-90 seconds like the pump is achieving vacuum but still no HVAC controls. Could the pump possibly be reading a false vacuum?
@@tylerwhite5015 how much vacuume are you achieving with a gauge?
Vacuum in measured in inches of mercury. Good vid though thanks.
Yes it is, I misspoke on accident. Thank you for the correction.
@@AutomedicGarage i like your ford content and subscribed 👌
@@kmann1430 Thanks bud, we got a lot more coming and the new shop is going to really change things.
Only 4 low is not engaging. All the rest is good. ??
You have a T case or actuator problem then
Not "15 pounds". 15 inches of mercury. Not the same.
I mispoke but you knew what I meant. Sure glad I have viewers like you to correct me otherwise I might wipe my butt back to front.
Love the Trump wrist band!
