Second time in a week Ron was able to help me with an issue with my 06' F250. Both times I panicked thinking it was something major and thanks to these videos I was able to troubleshoot and repair with no expense. So sorry to hear of his passing, RIP sir.

Air was only blowing through the defrost vents in my 2005 F350 Super Duty. Several people were telling me the climate control in my truck was shot. I stumbled across your video and sure enough, the vacuum pump in my truck wasn't working. One trip to Napa and an hour later and everything was working correctly again. You saved me from wasting $400 on a new climate control unit. Thanks Ron!

Still helping us out, brother! It's been a great run with my 6.0, she's been my daily for 15 years. I just took delivery of my 2024 F250 in the 7.3. Found a good home for the 6.0, some 6.0/7.3 guys up in PA. But wouldn't ya know it, checking the 4WD today the vent air blew out the defrost which is always the tell-tale sign of a vacuum leak, so I had to check in with Ron one last time.
Thanks for everything, Ron. You are missed!

Just bought an 04 6.0 dually that runs great but I heard a little noise when I start it and a hissing when I shut it off turns out it was the vacuum pump I thought I had 2 separate issues. Thanks for the help. You diagnosed my problem at 02:10. That hose was off it's port. The vacuum pump would cycle on and off, on and off, but with that line disconnected no air except to the windshield vents. I think it was knocked loose a couple of weeks ago when it was in the shop for a turbo problem repair.

Well done. My 2006 F350 Vacuum pump started running the other day and ran almost incessantly every time I turned the key on. I prowled all over the diesel tech sites and everyone was pointing me towards bad solenoids and leaks in the HVAC/FWD lines. I watched your video and, as you described, the grey line to the little black heater control valve at the back of the motor was unplugged and hanging all the way down the back of the firewall. Popped it on and presto, good as new. Thanks for your great and explanatory videos.

I had this problem. I was extra concerned because I had manual Warn hubs on my rig but the hose lines still go to my hubs. I inadvertently fixed the problem by removing the gray vacuum line (5:36) and putting it back on. It must have not been seated correctly. Hey! I'll take a win whenever I can. Thanks Ron! You are the best!

Not a bad video, of course besides all the hoses you stated, I'd also check inside at the bleed door behind the glovebox. Especialy if after all the checks you stated, if the bleed door is losing air then the pump will keep running.

this morning when I got into my 2004 F250 6.0 diesel I heard that same humming noise from up front and I just ignored it and started the truck and took off and in about 4 miles down the road I lost throttle response and my truck died, I then waited for a few minutes and tried starting the truck and it fired right back up but then I only got a couple miles and it died again.
Could this have something to do with that vacuum pump?.
    Thanks

Ron I watched your video and determined my vacuum pump went out completely. I have replaced the vacuum pump and now all of the heating and cooling vents in the truck are working properly. In addition, the grey wire was not attached so thanks for the heads up. Now, the SOF 4x4 still does not work for either 4 high or 4 low after fixing the vacuum pump issue. If I manually lock the hubs then everything works fine. Is it possible the 4wd solenoid has gone bad? Is there a way to test if the solenoid next to the vacuum reservoir and vacuum pump has gone bad?

  • @seanreynolds1081

The 6.4 vacuum reservoir has 2 ports out a small one goes the tree from the vacuum pump and the way goes 4x4 solenoid. the other port i don't have a hose, but Ford schem for the 6.4 shows a hose but I can't find any information on where this hose is suppose to go or what it does. If Ford makes it it would be on the King Ranch,

Hi Ron, my pump will not shut off even when I plug the lines coming off the reservoir. The reservoir holds air pressure even over night so I know there are no leaks. But it will shut off if I plug the intake nipple on the pump. Will a weak pump cause this? Seems like it takes a while to get good pressure.

I more or less did all this .. but the vacuum actuator, ... idtentifx I think said if it doesn't hold a vacuum to replace it. So I put my mighty-vac to one side of the actuator and put my finger over the other and it does NOT hold a vacuum or move the needle. I can pull plug the red hose at the actuator unplugged and it pump stops. I am thinking and actuator is kaputs.

Our pump seems to be working fine no leaks, pump will tun off after vacuum build up occurs, our issue is this, we have ONLY air flow to the floor, Nothing to Defrost or dash vents. All we can find is Air pressure at Defrost only which means no vacuum to controls..

Are you still watching this? where does the OTHER end of the heater control valve vacuum line go? my vaccuum pump runs constantly. I isolated that it's not the 4wd or other front items by disconnecting the line as shown at 3:31. But the hose you connect at 2:21 comes from somewhere that is disconnected.

I have a question Ron.. Are the 7.3l hubs known for going out in the vacuum side of them??? I have one and the hubs seen to have a mind of their own lol.. They will work when i don't need then like when I go to back up my big trailer in reverse up my steep driveway.. I put it in low to keep the stress off the trans but I don't like the Hubs to lock do I don't get all the binding on the pavement... But when I really need them like when I'm in the sand they never seem to work so I have to get out and lock them.. Do the early years of the super dutys have hub problems?? Cause I have yet to see the newer design on the late 6.0s and 6.4s not work...

    • @DieselTechRon
      @DieselTechRon  11 років тому

They can. In the video I was talking about vacuum bypassing the valve and causing a leak. Your talking about the effect. If it bypasses then yes it will apply the hubs.
