    For cup and cone hubs using an axle vise is a great way to be sure you have locked the cup
    and cone together on one side and then adjust from the other side. I enjoyed your video, it
    reminded me of when I owned a bike shop from 1977-1997 an did the mechanic work on all
    the bikes. Thanks for the videos.

    He, he. I just did it today. Deore 6010 B. Same thing. Also, I need to service freehub. And then, cleaning cassette. I didn't have all of the tools, so I make tools for the job. It took me half a day but now, finally, freehub works. They have some play.
    Road bikes rear hub also need some TLC. So, I replace ball bearing on wheel and freehub.
    Now I'm ready for winter.

    I always put new ball bearings, even if the old ones look ok there's always some wear.
    It's easier to adjust the lock nut if you clamp the oposite side of the axle to a bench vice.

    5:08 They are not the same seal. The seal with the higher center is the drive side. The seal with the shallow center, is the brake side

    when i try to remove the seal ring from a shimano hub on the drive-side with a screwdriver, the seal will always get bend and therfore not reusable, because it sits so tight. I found a tip from R.J. the bike guide: remove the seal from the inner side by pushing it out.

    What about the bearings and pawls on the inside of hub? Probably why it was still little rough.

  • @antonkvarmo1

    When you spray degreaser like that it can get in to the freehub body. So be careful next time because thats hardrr to service.

    Once the tyre is back on and inflated do a wheel balance. It's just a small thing but takes out the humping sensation that is noticeable when riding on asphalt at speed.

    • @cannondany
      @cannondany  5 років тому

      How do you perform it?

    • @richardkaz2336
      @richardkaz2336 5 років тому

      @@cannondany mount the wheel in a set of old forks or a stand. make sure the wheel spins free. Note where the wheel is positioned at standstill eg is the valve stem at to bottom of the wheel (6 o'clock) or put a chalk mark, give it the softest spin just enough to do a couple of rotations and allow it to come to rest. If stops at the bottom again. Spin it again to make sure. If it stops or creeps back to the same position. Apply a small weight 1-2g ( thin strip of lead) wrap this to one of the spokes at the top of the wheel, (12' o'clock).
      Give the wheel another light spin. If it still stops at the same spot add a little more weight at the top of the wheel. Eventually the wheel should stop at a different location or the original heavy spot and the balance weight will stop at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock.
      I think there are various videos on how to do it.

    you should have taken freehub off the hub so I could have seen what kind of connection there is. I have some rim which is useless cause there is 12 mm hex which is so tight that I can not open it with my tools. I hate wheels which are not thought be serviceable.

    el ajuste final está mal hecho o al menos yo lo hago de distinta manera, a la conera la ajusto hasta que queda mas o menos ajustada entonces en ves de ajustar la tuerca más exterior simplemente la mantengo en su lugar y desajusto la conera logrando así que ambos (tuerca y conera) se claven.

    My rear wheel has play its a slx but has the same system as yours but has Play in it I tightened all of the cups so there’s no movement I there but when I put it in my frame it seams to narrow because there is a few mm of space between the frame and the outer cup on disc brake side

    Hello!
    May I ask you a question about hubs? I have the same thru axle 12x142 hub shimano m6010hb. When I set it with little play and tight the axle on the bike, the play is go away that is right. But bike doesn't ride well. Then I set more play on the hub and when tight the axle, there's play on the rim for about 0.5-0.7 mm . But the bike rides really well. So my question is: can I leave 0.5-0.7 mm play on the rim? I also read shimano allows to set this play cuz there may be some differents between the same cup and cone hubs in processe of manufacturing unlike sealed bearing. You have to find sweet spot for you hub which will work well. May this play on the rim cause issues in the future?
    Thanks a lot.

    When I put back the axel, it doesn't go all the way down, but stays about 1cm too out.. I have seen in the Shimano instructions that this might ba an issue, but they only say to repeat the full process if you encounter this kind of issue.. any tip?
    Thanks
