WELCOME BACK! Today we're talking about a Korean child star that pretended to work at a bakery to get sympathy after her recent scandal... but interestingly enough, the story isn't that simple. She messed up but is she really the villain everyone wants her to be?

So what it sounds like, is that this girl has done nothing wrong her entire life, but has been relentlessly attacked by the public for “scandals” that she didn’t actually instigate. She develops an alcohol problem (shocking s/) and finally does something wrong. Now she’s being skewered because this one wrong thing is “in combination” with everything else? That everything else being nothing? The bakery thing was weird, but I’d be obstinate too, if I’d been baselessly attacked my entire life.

people can definitely have empathy for a person's situation without excusing their actions
i think stephanie does such a great job of this
not even just here, but in a lot of her videos!
dispicable acts, but she always gives us insight into things that led up to that act (not that they're excusable or anything, but you get it)
that said, having trauma does NOT give you an excuse to drink and drive
there are so many people with so many varying levels of trauma
they're not all drunking and driving
likewise, not everyone who drinks and drives has heavy trauma

To be fair, all of us were once children and many adults have deep trauma of their own. No two traumas can be compared. people grow up as victims of sa, domestic abuse, homeless, mentally unwell and so much more, and alot of time that leads to drug use and alcohol abuse. I don't think we should be any more sympathy to a child star that endangers others life drinking and driving than we should to any other adult that was once a child with unimaginable trauma.

I saw her in “A girl at my door” for the first time while I was in Italy and I think I was the same age as her when she did the movie. That movie messed with me for months after because it felt so real how she acted. I cant imagine what being a child actress/actor is like and also being bullied so much by adults. I’m not defending her in any way but let’s try and be more empathetic, poor girl.

There is a case of a mom who got killed in 2017 in front of her house, but before getting killed, she by herself found and got arrested 10 people who kidnapped and murder her daughter. This happened in Mexico. The moms name is Miriam Rodriguez Martinez, she was killed on mothers day. I hope you can cover this story sometime in the future!

Honestly, this is a product of how Korea has an affinity to perfection and how toxic everyone is to the opposite. Not only expecting everyone esp those in the public eye to be perfect but also finding every little mistake/flaw they have and then tear them down for it. And of course you'll find some flaw/mistake because people are human. And to be honest, it may seem that the netizens are doing this for public service/informatiom but no, it's just jealousy, envy for those with opportunities for success. It's crab mentality at it's most toxic.

This is so right about the trauma! It’s called Vicarious Trauma. As a healthcare interpreter we are asked to interpret everything in first person. It’s believed that because were repeating “I feel sick, I am drepessed, when am I dying, is there no cure for my illness? Etc” we are affected psychologically. So every couple months we’d have to get therapy for vicarious trauma. I can’t even imagine how badly these actors get it too
