I can't believe you saw not only so many water rails (which are definitely on my bucket list) but also a bloody Bittern! I've been wanted to see those since I was a child but I've only ever seen them on signs and never in the flesh! So cool!
Great catch with the Bittern 👌🏻. Seeing the Yellowhammer reminded me of when I was a kid. They’re still one of my favourite birds. I remember my Mum pointing them out to me when I was about 10. Thanks for all the work you put into each one of your videos. You’ve really rekindled my love for our native Birds and Wildlife. 🦆🦉🐍🦎🦜🦡🦔🦌
@ Yes. I used to see them a lot when I was growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one. They’re such beautiful birds. I’ve been watching from the first video and the pleasure is all mine. It’s brilliant watching the channel grow as more people find you. Have a brilliant weekend, mate. 🙏🏻😎
I’m so pleased you enjoyed Otmoor… you did so well to film the water rails so clearly and get footage of Cetti’s Warbler too. 👍 ps Cetti’s Warbler and Dunlin. Black legs and down curved black bill on the Dunlin. Cetti’s is one of the few over wintering warblers and so it rules out Reed Warbler the main confusion species. Also the way it tends to hold its tail upright gives it an almost wren like quality.
Bittern ! Like MrJoe, always searched for them over the years, in Reed Marshes, never found one, got Bittern by Mosquitos whilst doing it though. Congratulations, that is a huge find
Im lucky to be situated near ham wall, possibly the best reedbed reserve in the country, and so ive seen bittern many times in flight, although getting footage might be a challenge this year. Funnily ive never seen a bittern on the ground.
As they say. Once Bittern, twice shy !
Cute faced deer and a water rail. Fantastic 😃

I was a lucky chappy on this day for sure! In fact I've been lucky all week.. I found hawfinches today that will be in an episode soon 😃
So happy for you seeing both the muntjac and bittern !!!
Thanks bro, I was so happy! I've been so lucky recently 😃
The bittern footage was fantastic! Loved the water rails too.
Thank you 😁 it was an awesome day's creature hunting!

Did there used to be a lot more yellowhammer then do you think?
Thanks for watching mate, I'm just glad you enjoy my little videos!

Wow, i am impressed what a find, love the little deer too.Did not know you had that species in the UK
We have one other mini deer species too, the Chinese water deer. I'll hopefully be finding one of those this year too 😁

I'm glad to hear you agree with me then, there are so many dunlin lookalikes 😐 so I find them particularly tricky

They are exceptionally hard to find/spot aren't they! Thank you mate, I was especially happy with this one 😀

That just goes to show how tricky these birds are to find! Seeing one on the ground is my next challenge..
Which hide did you see the bittern
5:22 shoveller, wigeon, mallard, pintail, tufted, moorhen… there is probably real too but I couldn’t pick one out!
Yeah I can’t pick out any teal either. Where do you see the moorhen? The black bird in the water is a coot :)
@ OMG coot… I’m so daft, I don’t know why I put moorhen!!
Edit: and I have a typo of real instead of teal… 🤦♂️
@ aha it’s all good we all make mistakes
All right after correcting the moorhen mistake 😁 I think there's a teal in the bottom left sort of area but I'm not 100% sure
I was in a hide at Brandon marsh for almost a whole day looking for water rail and saw one
That's awesome! Was it a good sighting?
@ yep
Whoop whoop great stuff. Off to google the Dutch word for Bittern.
Found it: Roerdomp. I heard one once, didn’t see it but the sound was amazing! A bit eerie.
