I like the Evo Elite all premium components yet not as costly as the Jackhammer
I know two things. The old chatterbaits that you show have a wider flatter head than what they now call the original chatterbait. And for the price of one Jackhammer, I can buy 2 chatterbaits and have $3.50 left in my hand. But I agree with your opinion. I have not noticed a substantial difference in the catch rate or size when you throw a jackhammer. I know a lot of guys swear they catch more fish. And two things about that. That you see with a lot of baits people say they catch more fish because they just hear everybody else saying that. And of course if you fish a jackhammer nine times and only fish an original ChatterBait one time out of every 10 times you fish chatterbaits, of course you're going to catch more on the Jackhammer, cuz you throw it more
Very well said….
I've been saying this for a while... you can clearly feel the difference between the two. Since everyone & their brother has moved to the Jackhammer & Stealth, the fish forgot what the OG Chatterbait sounded like, and they have been pounding it again.
I think you are giving the fish a little too much credit 😂
That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard lol. They’re fish. I shouldn’t even have to explain the obvious reasons why what you said is just not true in the slightest.
I've made baits for 50 years, there's only 2 kinds of baits, ones made for fish ones made for fishermen.
I have you tried the new EVO Chatterbait? Costs less than Jackhammer and has some upgraded components. I've had some pretty good success with it.
Buy the BPS version of the chatterbait, its very similar to the jackhammer and bout half the price.
Watch an old video Scott Suggs for the Bass University about how he improved the original chatterbait ... he takes the blade off and drills the hold out to be a little bit bigger and then reattaches the blade. It starts up immediately just like the jackhammer.
I’ve also caught more fish on the original than with the jackhammer.
Hi Randy I tried the jackhammer a couple years ago and was terribly disappointed because my catch’s went way down. Went back to the original and started catching way more. Went back and forth many different trips and definitely caught way more on the original. That was my experience but guy’s swear by the jackhammer and it worked better for them. Me and my brother only buy the originals. Thanks
I been throwing the mini max half ounce and believe it's my favorite
Is it a mini fish catcher like perch
@@michaelmcclenon6663 not in my experience. It's been catching nice 3lb class fish so far
The regular chatter bait is just as good for me as the Jackhammer!
Interesting. I think the merit of the JH is the super fast start up. 1/2 reel turn and its thumping.
I do mostly pond fishing in west central Indiana and I've probably caught 75% of my bass on a chatterbait(old) and have never owned a Jackhammer. I do have one of the newer Slobberknockers by Berkley, but the blade doesn't start nearly as easily as the old chatterbait.....
It took me a little bit to figure out which original Chatterbait that you were using there's a few different head designs
I agree and the weedless version is even better. The old original had a better line tie than the new chatterbait though. The new one takes a few cranks to get it going.
Is it me, or are you changing out the skirts on the original chatter bait to something of better quality??? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an original Chatter bait in Hematoma….
Randy, I thought you might contradict an old video you made along time ago..but you didn't..I follow your advice and will continue to do so!..
Lake Fork Magic Shad is a superior trailer to the Zoom Shimmer Shad all day long.
Randy the only difference I have found between the two is that the Jackhammer after the cast it starts vibrating faster than the original.I have caught fish on both.I love your channel.
The Jackhammer must have said it was a fan of FFS... 😂
That being said, im a huge fan of the TW-exclusive Chatterbait Custom. Absolute fish-catcher and much cheaper, with some upgrades over the original.
You dont like ffs?
@aubytrice1868 I like it, though I mostly use it ice fishing. But Randy generally rails against the Jackhammer, like he does with FFS. Figured it was on his list.
@@alj6319 that’s awesome, It’s deadly for ice fishing lol. Randy will hate on everything he does’nt like or have. His big claim to fame is that h’es won 1.25$ million in fishing. Has been fishing pro for 39 years, that’s around 30k a year wich you can make at mcdonalds, randy is not all that in the fishing world. I couldnt even find an event that he won.
@aubytrice1868 FFS is definitely not as easy to master and make effective for open-water as Randy paints it to be. I do agree with him on the point that it can ruin fisheries, but I'm more concerned with the meat hunters using it for crappies and walleyes than bass fisherman in tournaments.
@@alj6319 It can be concerning but think about this, these people still can only take there limit home, even without ffs they just stay out there until they limit out. I dont really think ffs directly plays a role in that. I find it’s only effective for certain ways of fishing as well and no not as easy as they play it out to be. I use it mostly for tournaments and practice to not waste time on smaller fish but if I take the wife and kid fishing for fun and maybe keep 2-3 for supper I wont even turn it on.
This is a perfect example and opportunity for newer anglers like me. I absolutely love these videos I will now throw some chatter baits because I thought the jackhammer was superior and it’s really not.How I know that is because randy has fished and studied the art before I was probably born .Thanks randy !!!
Thx man
Take two. Of course had to get that Zoom plug in there. I get it though got to provide for the family
Hi Randy. I have heard you say this before so I started compairing them. I only have one jackhammer left at tis time and I will not replace them. I'm a disabled fisherman so money is tight. I hated buying a Jackhammer because oif the cost. But I have had a few. I would switch back and forth between them and I found the same thing. I catch more fish on the cheap original. So I have stopped buying the Jackhammer. I know you will get a ton fo negative feedback on this one. But I stand with you. I have now started compairing the new Elite to the Original. But I have not come up with a conclusion yet. Keep up the awesome videos. I have learned so much from you and I really appreciate you sharing your wisdom with us. God bless.
Randy is an Z-Man Evo chatterbait better or is the Z-Man Original chatterbait's better?
My main issue with the original is that the blade gets stuck, and you've got to give it a hard pull to get it vibrating. I fish a homemade version that a buddy of mine makes and have zero issues. I refuse to pay for any overpriced lure. Lee Trevino the old golfer, said it best.."it ain't the arrow. It's the Indian."
Do you have a video on the chatter bait evo?
Was wondering the same thing. The evo has a even better bait holder then the jackhammer and better action. What's your thoughts and it's 9.99 around here.
i’m kind of like you randy i really don’t like the thump (but i use googans i feel like they thump like CRAZY) so i have no confidence in that i would love to amend the lure to thump less if its possible.
i do have a few chatterbaits but they’re in a smaller size so it wouldn’t be a fair comparison to measure the thump differential but i really don’t like all that thump in a googan
Sometimes cheap works better than expensive just like humdinger spinnerbaits they ain’t expensive components aren’t as good but they put fish in the boat.
I agree with almost all of it. jackhammers are a superior product. yet, I catch more with my original chatterbaits (and homemades). I don't agree on why this is so. I don't think there's a real answer out there. I have never read any scientific data on vibration and sound making a difference in bass fishing. please link to the evidence if it exists. I use chatterbaits for the little bit of flash and the constant feedback of how it is running.
You can only get the 1/4 ounce in the Original.
I bought 1/2 ounce at Bass Pro about 2 weeks ago. They also had 3/8 ounce in the original.
@@christobey4198 just saying if the 1/4 ounce is what you need you can only get the 1/4 ounce in the original. No 1/4 in the Elite, jackhammer or any other Chatterbait.
@@robertbrost7777 Sorry misunderstood what you were saying. Just bought a couple 1/2oz yesterday at my local mom & pop tackle shop ($4.42), then caught a little bass on the first cast last night with one of them in the pond. I fish a lot of rivers for smallmouth so I prefer the 1/2oz because of the current in the water.
The og just doesn’t start up well and components are not good ! The jackhammer starts thumping immediately and has a great hook and keeper ! I used one jackhammer for two years and probably a hundred fish and the hook was still stickyyyyy sharp , just take the skirt off 🤫
The micro ones work really well too. I picked up some Evos to try but haven't got around to it yet.
Being a lure junkie, I obviously have quite a few Jackhammers...BUT, still don't think they're worth 3x an original...I'd rather buy 3 originals, experiment with trailers & no skirts on a few...dont feel bad removing the skirt on a $5 bait over a $16...Originals catch fish, too...the Strike king is good ...even the googan one works just under the surface...Berkley, Picasso, Bass Pro...They all catch fish, if they get used...Most just follow the hype
How you fish them big homie been tossing th catching nothing
@@michaelmcclenon6663 I fish mine just like a spinnerbait...stop it near a stump, log, etc...couple twitches here & there...some days they're on it, other days they're not...throwing a white one, with a white trailer can be quite fun just under the surface with your rod tip up so u can see it coming in...some strikes are heart stoppers
@@andybales7318😂😂😂
i have googans too because they were on mad sale at dicks but i saw the jackhammer price and jumped out my skin lol i bought a few chatterbaits in a small size because they weren’t actually priced that bad
I love my jackhammer - Caught 3 this morning in 25 min. Two 3 pounders and One 4 pounder! Down in Woodlands Texas. Either or I am sure they both work great! CHATTTERDONK
