Re: compliments, I had an ah-a moment when someone complimented pants that I had worn probably 50 times in front of them. But they hadn't noticed until the 50th time. Because, to your point, no one really gives a shit and very few people actually pay any real attention to what we're wearing!
I still finish everything on my plate. I love leftovers, but once it's on my plate, I finish it. But, I instead switched to a smaller plate to begin with. That way I put less on it.
I didn’t think I was a minimalist, until I heard how people talk about what they own and saw other people’s homes. Not a judgement, you do you. It just made me realize that I live my life VERY differently. A lot of my minimalism has come from having to live within my means (having a baby really changed my mindset on this) AND that my mental health requires a relatively tidy, clean and organized home. Your Instagram and UA-cam channel have helped me feel less alone in this strive for responsible consumption.
1. Let go of "finishing everything on your plate". 2. Let go of "just in case". 3. Make minimalism a habit. 4. Get honest with yourself about stuff and debt and what you're doing and why. 5. Ask: "who am I now and who do I want to be? How will I get there?" 6. Ask: "am I willing to part with 2 or 3 things now to bring this new item into my life?" Note: just because there's space doesn't mean you need to fill it up! 7. Embrace change. 8. Recognize that no one else gives a sh*t about what you're wearing. 9. Recognize that minimalism is not all or nothing, and it doesn't happen overnight. 10. Recognize that this is your journey, and you get to have your own set of rules for what minimalism looks like in your own life.
My approach to "just in case" is that if the situation ever did arise, I would simply deal with it then (e.g., rent a dress, borrow an item, etc.). There is always a solution.
I'm no expert minimalist, but I think if you are interested in the lifestyle, these are some useful tips to embrace the concept if minimalism a little bit more and put it into practice...especially if you're a non-minimalist. How do you embrace minimalism?
For me minimalism is having what I need and want in my life and not having things because others have them. The items I have kept during my decluttering and the items I buy now I consider handpicked by me and only me! I want to have things aswell as people in my life that I want to take care of and that I love, not things that just take up my time and waste it (cleaning, organizing etc). You do have a relationship with your things and if they don’t give you joy, why should you keep them in your life?
I am starting the process. I started with my closet. I loved the freedom I experienced the first week or so. Then I noticed a general feeling of angst with the empty closet. I started to journal and discovered this feeling “what if I don’t have enough?” It has been much more of a spiritual and psychological journey! Love the comment that do not have to fill negative space.
I've been a minimalist for a few years now, growing on my journey, and I really enjoyed this video. ❤ P.s. I have a toddler, kids' toys, clothes, normal furniture, and an average 3 bedroom house, and I'm still a minimalist. 😊 It doesn't have to be bare walls and empty rooms!!
I also found minimalism by being an overspending 😳. I had so much stuff that I didn’t need and so much debt that I finally hit a wall. I have been decluttering for about 3 months now and I feel so free now! I’m on a roll, my bank account is stable, I’ve started to pay off my debt, which will take several years !
This is. A great video, I am living this way for over 4 years, I can’t imagine living any other way now. I buy intentionally, if I need a particular item that is when I shop for it, and only look for that particular item in stores, no browsing. Besides keeping my home minimal , I have narrowed my wardrobe to about 35 items per season. Once you figure out your style, it is so easy. I always keep a donation box in the back seat of my car, once it fills up, I bring it to donate
Wow - this really speaks to me! I was doing the same with shopping and putting off saving for a new home! I've stopped shopping for unnecessary purchases and decluttering items around me home. I've been donating and selling items and I'm feeling so much better!
I done a few huge declutterings, that lasted a whole weekend, or all the afternoons of a work week. Now I m at a point where I still have 3 small clusters of clutter. I plan to tackle those by spending an hour at a time. The rest of my house is decluttered and tidy.
I'm not sure how I found your channel, but I want you to know how much you have helped me and continue to inspire me on my debt repayment and simplification journey. Thank you!
So inspirational! I have been doing a project wear everything. Seems like the opposite from a capsule but it is forcing me to decide what my style is and what I need to let go of. You are right it is journey and I do not have to keep everything that stills looks good. Goals!
Thank you for this! The past two years I’ve WANTED to start being a “minimalist,” but I had and all or nothing approach. I’m realizing I can start small, just start. A low-buy approach would suit me better. Also, having all this stuff yet not REALLY having substantial to show for it really resonated with me. I keep telling myself I can get this and that because I have a good income, BUT I’m still renting and my goal is to own. And, you’re right, that compliment on your clothing is so fleeting! I have also hid packages and have said something was old when it was new. New to me is a month and now I feel foolish when I think about how silly that sounds. My birthday is next week and that’s when I do my yearly reflection and set my goals. This time I need to get to the bottom of my spending problem. Thank you for this, I’m subbing and I’m going to keep watching to keep me motivated and inspired.
'You can't declutter into minimalism.' - Golden words. Most people think that minimalism is about how many things you have. No! That is called materialism. Minimalism is NOT about things: it's a different way of living, being and thinking, in contrast to the materialistic world of today.
I totally agree on your perspective of minimalism❤ I follow Josh and Ryan for quite some time now, but I missed some female take on clothing, living, and you give that. Thanks for inspiration! Keep on doing your thing!
Half way through this video, I stopped it and I started filling in my monthly spending sheet which i had been dreading and avoiding...you honestly keep me grounded with my spending ...thank you
Christina got me to Aja Dang’s channel and then onto Dave Ramsey and I think this goes hand in hand with minimalism, essentialism and of course taking control of personal finances. I have learnt to abandon cheap thrills and defer enjoyment to reach much more important goals in life, like saving up for an emergency fund, plan for a family. When I am reminded of where I want to be, no, I do not need that shirt. Thank you again.
Number 6 is the best and most helpful , I think. All these decluttering videos and yet if the actual mindset and habits haven't changed then nothing has really changed. Number 7 was excellent too...oh now number 8.... my epiphany about compliments was when I realized many people would comment on my nice 'fill in the blank'....but what I realized is I was always looking for the comment because I felt so terrible about my actual physical appearance...and then I realized they are not actually giving me what I wanted/ needed. And I realized I had to get to the place of accepting my appearance myself and not accepting and looking for this 'false' sense of people 'approving' or 'liking' my appearance. Hope that makes sense. One of your best videos ...ever!
I recently discovered your channel and really loved it! I have to admit it made me realize that this year with all the social isolation I have developed a little online shopping addiction. Now I’m on my way to break this habit 🙌🏽
I went down to 2 nail polish. Clear and red😊I just want a really organized clean de-cluttered home. This is really easy if you realize what’s important. Thank you!
I really loved this video. It really helps to think of minimalism as a lifestyle, or a tool on your journey of self acceptance and awareness than a competition of who has the least. I much prefer your way of thinking :)
As always I love all your videos. Your very inspiring! HOWEVER, I remember that when I was around 10 years old, I had a teacher who wore the same outfit every day for a whole year! It was a bottle green jumper, black trousers, green socks and sandals! ;)
Love this content! I think minimalism has not only a visually effect, because all the junk is gone, but also a mentally effect. You have to remember where you store your stuff, how much you have or in which condition it is. This information is in your subconscious mind, and clutters your head too. So when you’re decluttering, you get rid of the information in your head as well and this is why you feel so much lighter after decluttering. Wow! I think you were saying what goes through my mind. I'm recovering from shopping addiction and I feel so identified with everything you are saying. Great video and I hope you follow your journey to a life full of great experiences.
I relate to every point you make. I’m not a minimalist yet but I do hope to eventually get there. I’m still struggling with my wardrobe and I feel guilty about the decision to keep what I have after I culled 2/3 of it because I know I still have a lot. The worst part is that I want more and feel unsatisfied with what I have despite owning plenty. I’m really trying to discover what my underlying motivation is. It’s a struggle.
You seem to have deep insight into your consumerism habits. Listening to you is like listening to a therapist, because you are getting to the root of the problem.
Thanks, for this video. I always appreciate the mindful process that you share with us. You've really inspired me to be mindful of my purchases more than I was before.
your channel has seriously helped me so much. i confronted my terrible habits (learned from my upbringing mostly) and am currently on the low-buy journey and embracing the minimalist mindset. ❤🥰 thank you again-from a fellow (former) "clean plate club" member
I like the little clips you put during your points. Like the closing of the 5 min journal and the coffee clink. Very aesthetically pleasing and kept me interested lol
Great video!! You started me on my Low Buy Thank You it has been Life Changing but something was missing as I looked around at all my stuff like you I would declutter still the stuff was there I happen on the Nomads watched how they were LIVING for YEARS on just the BASICS of LIFE and HAPPY the Light Blub came on I'm not going to be a Nomad but I DON'T NEED ALL THIS STUFF!!!! Now your Video has directed me to head for minimalist I may get there I may not but it's a Journey I'm willing to take!!!!
Such a wonderful video with really good points! I’ve been enjoying giving away things to friends and family❤️ it helps me declutter and I know that my things will be enjoyed and be used 👍🏻
I get rid of things every Monday whether it's decor or clothes. I just did my capsule for fall I had six plastic bags full to donate to charity! I have a long way to go not really with clothes as much as decor lots of it. What you said is so true it's a process.
The package hiding game was when I realized something was seriously wrong in the way I was doing things... That woke me up. I started decluttering in every sense.
Good approaches... Now for years, I get a pure spiritual feeling in my slow minimalism efforts... "Cleanse the mirrors of your hearts from the dross of the world and all that is therein, that they may reflect the resplendent light of God." ~ Abdu’l-Baha, Baha'i Faith
I would love if you talk about feeling guilty I decluttered 4 years ago . I was not working for a few years . Now I feel bad spending money . My clothes are falling apart as they are old . I like to buy nicer things so they last so when replacing I am spending . Not crazy but still spending
I talk about guilt a lot on my channel - it's still one of the biggest issues I grapple with frequently. I think what's helped me is to 1) consider what's reasonable - if your clothes are falling apart and you need some replacements, it's okay to spend that money. 2) budgeting - it gives you both the freedom and the restrictions to put your money where it needs to go 3) ensure you're being kind to yourself; I'd often probably never think a friend was doing something wrong if they came to me grappling with something similar. Being gentle on ourselves is sometimes challenging, but I feel is really key to finding that balance ❤️
Lashlove16 if you need to purchase items to replace worn out ones maybe you should try a thrift shopping. You may find a few higher end pieces at a reasonable price. Just a thought.
Maybe it would help you if you calculated the cost per wear of the items? But honestly, guilt is not a logical emotion. I would suggest you practice TRUSTING yourself!! You make good decisions! If you think buying that item is a good idea, even if it costs $100-300, it probably is! ❤
I would definitely suggest buying items secondhand. This can be either online or in a thrift store, but it's an excellent way to obtain quality items without spending a fortune
So good, thank you for sharing! I always have a donation bag going so I can add to it as I come across things. Much more doable than weekend marathons.
Excellent insights! I like that you are not judgmental, but just pass along your own experiences. If Pharmacy doesn't pan out, you'll have a great career in Psychology! (lol)
Hi! Just found your channel and subscribed! Thank you very much for your videos! I feel REALLY overwhelmed in EVERYTHING in my life - makeup, clothing, bags, wallets, perfume, nail colors! I guess I have a disease buying and buying and buying.... PLEASE MAKE MORE NO BUY MOTIVATION VIDEOS! THANK YOU SO MUCH! 💞💟💗💖👍
I think to avoid the waste of tip 1, "Be realistic about how much you need to eat" is something to be considered. But yes, 1 is definitely applicable if you don't share your own food. And you can always leave some, put it in the fridge for later. I hate wasting food.
Ah so timely. I finally fulfilling my goal this year of saving IDR 55 million and while I have no money to spend rn I'm forced to slow down and do a no buy.. after 2 weeks I still feel okay, even when I start to browse for different stuff online, I "don't see" my money therefore no purchasing unnecessary stuffs.
Absolutely wonderful video . Really enjoyed this topic and that you share your journey. Always look forward to your videos. Started following you last winter and you have really helped motivate me to get rid of my excess items, gradually, as well as starting to pay down my debt - via Dave Ramsey. P.s. you look exceptionally elegant in this video 🙂
This was supposed to be my low buy year... WAS. But I ended up buying more things. I saw a lot of sales of hair care (I have a like 33 fl oz now), face creams (maskne), food and wine (I mean...), and told myself it was better if I buy in bulk "just in case", and no, I didn't hoard toilet paper. I feel like I can't stop buying things but that's because It makes me feel safe and the little rush of dopamine really helps coping with the lockdown anxiety.
Same here girl. I was all ready for freedom and then COVID happened and now I am worse! I am trying. I just started a budget (already bombed) but going to continue! We can do this. Self compassion and pressing on
For me ... step 1: divorce husband and/or banish him (and his stuff) to the garage! Seems a little extreme so might try to create my own version of your list as I love this approach 😂
Like it very much 😍😚🤗 I'm not a minimalist yet, but Trying to declutter and get rid of too much stuff.. Cause then you have a lot you sometimes can't even remember what you have. 😲😂. In my case fashion probably only area where I can't be minimal yet, cause I love the variety 😎😸 even though no one even notice what I'm wearing 😂😂
Re: compliments, I had an ah-a moment when someone complimented pants that I had worn probably 50 times in front of them. But they hadn't noticed until the 50th time. Because, to your point, no one really gives a shit and very few people actually pay any real attention to what we're wearing!

Since I became a minimalist my bank account has exploded. I declutter everyday👍🏼
selling me on this
Im aiming for an item a day 💫
Thank you for being a non judgmental voice in the UA-cam world of minimalism ❤️

I love your channel because it focuses on the same issues that I have - clothes! I can totally relate...
Great video. I’m struggling to reduce my wardrobe and then to keep it reduced! Thanks for reminding me that it’s a journey to change behaviors!
If I could double thumbs up I would! So real and genuine thank you. And that you say you're progressing and haven't already arrived, really refreshing

You really put words to my actions. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one! Love love your honesty. You’re helping so many.

I went down to 2 nail polish. Clear and red😊I just want a really organized clean de-cluttered home. This is really easy if you realize what’s important. Thank you!
Your honesty is so refreshing!
Wow, so much wisdom packed into one video
I really loved this video. It really helps to think of minimalism as a lifestyle, or a tool on your journey of self acceptance and awareness than a competition of who has the least. I much prefer your way of thinking :)
As always I love all your videos. Your very inspiring! HOWEVER, I remember that when I was around 10 years old, I had a teacher who wore the same outfit every day for a whole year! It was a bottle green jumper, black trousers, green socks and sandals! ;)
Love the little snippets and editing in this video is 🤟 also loved your honest opinion ☺
I highly recommend the book Magic Cleaning from Marie Kondo. It changed my perspective to keep only the things that spark joy and her way to declutter by categories shows you how much of for examples books you really have. Oh dear, this comment is longer than I thought. 😅 Love from Germany 💕
Wow! I think you were saying what goes through my mind. I'm recovering from shopping addiction and I feel so identified with everything you are saying. Great video and I hope you follow your journey to a life full of great experiences.
Woof. You spoke some truth and I am feeling convicted! I gotta change. Thank you for being open and authentic.
Honestly your videos are why I’ve even considered a minimalism journey and have changed the way I think about spending
I’m so honored! You got this!
I so love your honesty, simple truth! Thanks for the inspiring share.
I love your work, thanks... also, the way you say, "process," super cool!

Thanks, for this video. I always appreciate the mindful process that you share with us. You've really inspired me to be mindful of my purchases more than I was before.
I sent this video to my mom to help her begin the decluttering process. Really informative and insightful video, thank you!
Thank you! And no pressure - it’s a slow, steady process and entirely one’s own ❤️❤️ good luck!
your channel has seriously helped me so much. i confronted my terrible habits (learned from my upbringing mostly) and am currently on the low-buy journey and embracing the minimalist mindset. ❤🥰 thank you again-from a fellow (former) "clean plate club" member

Best vid I've seen on this topic, your authenticity is a great lesson
One of the most helpful minimalism
Videos i have seen!
it's only a few months that i start interested by minimalism, so your video it's helping me a lot.
I ve watched a few of your vids. This one is my fave, so far. Thank you

Thanks for sharing your point of view. Found it really interesting and useful.
Yes, someone could be wearing an amazing outfit but that’s not now I truly connect with them! Embrace the journey!
great motivational video as always! Thank you, Cristina
Great video and I agree it is a way of living. I feel better after this video thanks

Love content like this ⭐️
I think to avoid the waste of tip 1, "Be realistic about how much you need to eat" is something to be considered. But yes, 1 is definitely applicable if you don't share your own food.
And you can always leave some, put it in the fridge for later.
I hate wasting food.
Listening to you I hear myself, I love your truth and how open you are.❤❤
Thank you 🙏
OMG the nail polish!! what is this color? I love it :)
It's called "GALAVANTING" by Essie!
❤️🙏
You nailed it!
Excellent video
Ah so timely. I finally fulfilling my goal this year of saving IDR 55 million and while I have no money to spend rn I'm forced to slow down and do a no buy.. after 2 weeks I still feel okay, even when I start to browse for different stuff online, I "don't see" my money therefore no purchasing unnecessary stuffs.
GIRL i loved this....
that is all
Hi watching in Israel 🇮🇱 i just subbed loved your content & will start looking at previous videos 💖🌺
Love your content
Couldn’t agree more. It’s a slow burner
I love the video and also love your blazer, where is it from?
ANOTHER SPOT ON COMPILATION 💖
Listen again and again, along with "What minimalism ISNT"
Thank you so much
This was supposed to be my low buy year...
Totally understand - be kind to yourself - you got this!
@@Christinamychas Thank you for making videos! 🥺
Haha this is golden!
First get the divorce. All the best
for this venture. Let him go.
Souds right to me !
First like!!! Hi from Florida!!!
I'm from Florida too :) central Florida
Great video! I'm starting too..😀
Yes! We got this!
Like it very much 😍😚🤗 I'm not a minimalist yet, but Trying to declutter and get rid of too much stuff.. Cause then you have a lot you sometimes can't even remember what you have. 😲😂. In my case fashion probably only area where I can't be minimal yet, cause I love the variety 😎😸 even though no one even notice what I'm wearing 😂😂
lovely songs !
Starting the decluttering process is scary! Im going to start with baby steps. like get rid of five things.
I'm ready to change 🌈
