When I received orders to Ft. Bragg from Ft. Hood, I was excited but was also told by literally everyone, to include my command that I was in for a rude awakening and I would hate it. I spent 7 yrs there with 2 of my 5 deployments from there and I can definitely say...THEY WERE 100% WRONG!!! I absolutely loved it. The Tradition, the culture, the up-tempo, the sense of camaraderie. I even preferred the directness and bluntness of my leadership. There was none of this weak ass, passive aggressive leadership. Not to mention the area is beautiful. The only thing that confused me when I got there was how they played the cadences over loudspeakers along Ardennes street. I actually thought it was going to take the place of us calling cadence during runs but yet it didn't. We still called cadence. Immediately after leaving Ft. Bragg and got to a leg unit, came the weak ass leadership again and I suddenly missed Ft. Bragg.

I’m so happy to have come across this video. I have heard such bad thing about fort Bragg but now I am happy that I am going here as my first duty station. I have been indecisive about going airborne but now I am definitely going to volunteer once I get to my unit the 82nd airborne division!! 92 yankee airborne soldier loading .. hooahhh 💪🏾

Totally agree with Here's The Drill.
Sparks fly off every joe and janes' jump boots in the Eighty Deuce- all day and all night.
Early 1970's... I was so excited to carry orders for the 82nd I checked in 24 hours early and was immediately assigned to Alpha, 2Panther. (No Reception Co, none of that stupid leg stuff).
As a "Five Jump Chump" arriving after completion of the 9 week+ OJT Phase of Non Commissioned Officer Candidate School (NCOCS) I was a borderline Pay Hurt.
The Company area was deserted- all platoons and Top were in the field per the usual high speed training tempo of the Eighty Deuce.
Checking in to the Co HQ I interrupted a gathering of Senior NCOs from the Battalion and the Brigade. (They were planning something big). They halted their meeting and greeted me warmly yet professionally- like a brother. As a very green and baby NCO fresh out of NCOCS this really set me back- I didn't expect, nor did I deserve such a warm welcome from a bunch of grizzled old Korea and Vietnam combat experienced paratroopers.
Long story short... after some questions about my Army "career" to date I was asked if I was a Pay Hurt. I replied "I think so, but I don't know how the Army counts Holidays and Travel Days"...
I think it was the Battalion SGM mentioned Delta was jumping that night. Somebody else said "get this young SGT on the manifest".
So it was. I made my "Cherry Blast" with the Battalion Weapons Company that night. It was that jump that finally made me feel like a real US Paratrooper.
And that was just the first few hours of my most blessed time with the most awesome Division in the US Army!

Was at Bragg for 5 years...other places sucked after. I was on an Airforce base and woke up at 5:30 to run and walked outside and the only thing I heard was birds. Not a sole running or doing PT. At Bragg, you wake up at 5:30 to run and the streets are full of Soldiers training and running...I miss it and you will to. Hopefully Milley and Biden and Austen don't ruin this place!!!

you love Ft Bragg because of Sharkys. You love landing in the sage of Normandy. You love landing on the hard clay of Salerno. You love Fayettenam. You love manifest. mock jump. chute draw. sitting around green ramp for hours. waiting around the orderly room for 100% accountability. Yea those were real fun dude. Loved the 82nd making us jump in high enough winds that broke my back on a weak exit and still went out to walk and have motards yelling that "we don't walk on Ardennes" with a brace on my back and a cane in my hand. I also loved that after recovering I was told that because I am not white slip trained that I was a POS-while I was rehabbing trying to stay in. Now, I don't think I would have survived a leg unit after that but Bragg isn't the greatest post in the Army like you paint it. Not by a long shot.
