If you look at a lot of Churchills suggestions during the war, I kinda get the impression that he knew as soon as America joined it was a victory and they had to think of the future. For example, his idea to invade through the Balkans is a good one, completely messes with Stalin's plans and would have left the West in far better shape during the cold war much earlier on. Churchill was that kinda guy, always thinking ahead to future conflicts.
According to his books he knew that with USSR and USA on his side this war will be victorious. Tough and long, but in the end they will dine in Berlin.
It was the single biggest mistake the Allies made in WW2 if Churchill's plan had been followed instead of attacking southern France, the cold war could have been very different indeed.

The detail that you have put into this video is amazing. I love how you list all the forces that took part in operations overload and dragoon. People tent to forget that it was not just the Americans, British, Canadians and free french forces that participated in these operations but polish free forces as well as the french resistance. You are someone who pays attention to detail and that is what makes the difference in a video like this. I hope you continue to make videos as long as you have the time and funds to do so. I'd have to say that this channel is in my top 3 of animated docs that's available on UA-cam. Please keep 'em coming, I look forward to them.
@Clownface i thought the same but russia was building up its forces in the east since day one of barbarrosa. Sacrificed its western front to hold of germany until it was ready. Stalin didn't care about the cost of manpower thats why they were so succesful. Regardless, d day was nothing compared to the ferocity of russia vengence lol.
Peter no Germán capabilities in 1942 were weak they couldn’t do more offensives also America and the ussr held the engineering advantage in 1943-1945 also Soviet’s did damage to the Germans ussr didn’t just win bc of frosbite
@Peter Americans has better battleships than Germans. American battleships are more heavily armed and has more speed than German battleships. Plus american battleships has 3 turrets with 3 guns each meaning that american battleships had 9 guns at with a 16 inch caliber while the germans had 8 guns with 15 inch caliber

26:01 I can only imagine how exhilarating those moments were for the French people: Liberated Paris must have felt like a beacon of hope shining through a very dark night.
Still the french (not like there's any problem with that, the UK would've been the same so they don't deserve to get bashed that much, in the end both got carried but both did their part somewhat), despite the USSR doing the heavy lifting and the USA (Western Front), Poland and all the Allies (european and over) that did their part making that scenario directly happen and handing that to them.
My God. I think I left this channel for a year or two, and I come back to these amazing animations! I'm looking forward to catching up! Who-ever is animating this, you did a great job.

a violent, racist, oppressive regime intent on invading and subjugating the world. they were never going to win. they didn't have the resources and the entire world was against them.
Wrong,.They were defeated when they fought the Battle of Britain and wasted so much air power they could have concentrated on Russia and KNOCKED THEM OUT of the war like they did in 1918
Germany was defeated because "she" Didn't have oil The British and USA stopped anyone selling her oil. If you do enough research you will find out Germany wasn't even using all military vehicles due to lack of fuel.. So you could say Germany was never at full strength..
@John Cornell Germany needed double that amount maybe even a little more,, even before Germany attacked anyone " She " Was low on fuel, some ( experts) say that's one of the main reason Germany attacked.. A fuel shortage is like trying to fight with one hand tide behind you're back..
18:47 few will remember the only game to cover in great depth the encirclement of the Germans at Falaise and, especially, the Polish last stand in the area
Will M • 23 years ago Exactly what happened, Patton famously called a shell shocked soldier a coward and slapped him which ended up getting Patton replaced. But Patton was still late used in the deception against hitler as the leaked fake operation for the fake d-day landing site had Patton as the commander which hitler ate up
13:33 Operation Epsom a failure? Thanks to the British holding off German counter attacks at Caen, it allowed the Americans free reign of Cherbourg and Brittany without fear of attack, allowing them to force the Germans across the Seine. Caen may not have been captured on day one, but it did deplete and tie up the bulk of German forces which was a success.
@@jimmyjohnsontheiv8980 But still what? Operation Cobra would never have been executed if it wasn't for the British drawing away the main German strength. The British kept over EIGHT panzer divisions and three Tiger tank battalions busy.
Although anybody at that point who thought of Canada like that had forgotten WWI where Canada had some of the British Empires most decorated units as well as its most able general Arthur Curry.
@@danielmocsny5066 why must you Canadian bring that war up all the time knowing your neighbor now has the power to destroy 3 of your cities in one second
13:40 What gets conventiantly left out here is that whilst the British held up EIGHT panzer divisions the Americans in the west were only fighting half that with four understrength German armoured divisions opposing them as the Germans threw most of their reserves into holding back the British and Commonwealth at Caen. To call it a blunder is almost inane considering the forces opposing them, especially when a German general was dismissed after it was reported he said that with the defeat in Caen and the great amount of armour lost there, the war in france was effectivally over.
9:30 "With the Luftwaffe occupied in the east". I hope you are meaning Germany and not the Eastern Front because already by January 1944 only 17% of the Luftwaffe's fighters were on the Eastern Front. Source:RAF Bomber Command 1939-1945 by Richard Overy.
@@virgiljianu7166 Yes they did. Only in 1941 were the majority of German fighters in the east. They were increasingly depleted from the east after 1941 and by Jan 1943 only 25% were in the east, dropping to 17% by Jan 1944. Some 75% of German fighters were already away from the Eastern Front by the end of 1942, mostly to meet the growing Anglo-American bombing campaign on Germany. The majority of the German army was on the Eastern Front but not the air force.
possible reason: in 27 days of fighting from June 22 to July 19, 1941, the German air force lost 1,284 aircraft of all types[8], which was more than in the "Battle of Britain".
16:00 onwards. You seem to be negating a massive point here. Most probably the primary reason why Cobra was such a success. This being that German forces in the west were all but non-existent. This being due to the constant attacks on Caen, and how it sucked in more and more men and equipment. Ps. did Monty spill your pint?
He also grossly over summarises Operation Epsom as a "Blunder". Sure on the face of it it didn't capture Caen nor achieve a huge amount in the way of territorial gains. However the assault petered out because the German's were forced to commit 6 Panzer divisions in order to contain it. This included ALL of their armoured reserves. From this point on nearly all German armoured forces were positioned against the Commonwealth forces. A strategic success in the long game as it was a huge help for operation Cobra.
I'll take a game like BFV that looks at Norwegian commandos, the British butcher-and-bolt operations, and the Free French army over yet another game retelling the events of D-Day and Normandy. It's like people forget the war was raging for four plus years before the Americans got involved..
I really appreciate the wide inclusion of Operation Dragoon: I feel like that, along with their operation in Alsace-Lorraine, are the pinnacle of an organized French army being a considerable force against the Germans in a war that have often seen them sidelined. Too often are they overlooked. France had a 1.3 million man army by the end of the war, and I love to see their contributions to the allied cause covered more often. Thank you so much.
Just imagine when your on a raft and you realise that your returning to the same place of your humiliating defeat 4 years ago, must be really deep for some of those men.
Thank you for covering Juno beach and the other British landings, they are rarely covered so despite only being brief coverage thank you for covering them

@DS4V17-LAU Cheuk Lap Edgar [s] nice counter argument
According to his books he knew that with USSR and USA on his side this war will be victorious. Tough and long, but in the end they will dine in Berlin.
It was the single biggest mistake the Allies made in WW2 if Churchill's plan had been followed instead of attacking southern France, the cold war could have been very different indeed.
I think it’s written somewhere that he knew we won as soon as the Americans joined

The British and USA stopped anyone selling her oil. If you do enough research you will find out Germany wasn't even using all military vehicles due to lack of fuel.. So you could say Germany was never at full strength..

Some 75% of German fighters were already away from the Eastern Front by the end of 1942, mostly to meet the growing Anglo-American bombing campaign on Germany. possible reason: in 27 days of fighting from June 22 to July 19, 1941, the German air force lost 1,284 aircraft of all types[8], which was more than in the "Battle of Britain".
@@user-otzlixr I think you mean 'analysis'.
