It's unbelievable how courageous the allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy were. Well done, Armchair. The animation, the history, and the storytelling are tremendous.
The soldier wasn't suffering from PTSD; he had malaria. Ironically, it was *Patton himself* who was suffering combat fatigue at the time, coupled with a lack of sleep, and since he was in denial about it, he projected it onto someone else who just happened to seem uninjured compared to the other soldiers in the field hospital. After his head cleared and he was made aware of the soldier's actual situation, Patton summoned the private to his office and sincerely apologized for slapping him: "I didn't know you were sick."
He was already deranged by that time. But, he wanted Germany to keep fighting for many reasons. He was actually doing well with his plans at least till 42. He didn't want Moscow campaign and it backfired and pretty much cost them the Eastern Front.

If you wish to Add to your videos to show battles ? Perhaps the Slow walk up the New Guinea coast and the Solomon Chain. The air and sea battles included. The Reduction of Rabaul. The terribly slow campaign up Italy. Chindits and Marauders in China. Battle of the Atlantic. If you have already done some of these , then I must watch them. Again....GREAT work. Keep it up.
That the fact that German defences at Normandy is weak compared to other parts of Hiter’s Atlantic wall shows how much more destruction D-Day would have been if the Allies landed elsewhere
Stalin begged Roosevelt and Churchill to open up a 2nd front to take the pressure off of him. This is why the Italian mainland landings took place... and later, the French coast. Many badly needed German divisions had to be pulled from the Eastern Front because of this. Stalin got his wish.
Jerry There was already a, second front though in reality, keeping many resources away from thr Eastern Front. The war in North Africa/Med the Atlantic and the bombing of Germany. If not for that, the USSR would likely have lost. These tied down significant German resources, even before Italy and Normandy. 2/3 of German wartime expense and material resources went on the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine and these were mostly destroyed in the west. Already by the end of 1942 only 24% of German fighters were on the Eastern Front. That dropped to 17% by the end of 1943. The air war over Germany alone kept 1/3 of all German artillery inside Germany.
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712 Actually the british delayed helping stalin cuz they wanted to weaken the USSR. BUt once they understood that if the USSR fell, they the west would have no hope, they then decided to open the fron.t
You should do a more in depth video about the Falaise Gap massacre. My grandpa, part of the 90th ID, passed through there after the fighting had subsided. He shared a lot of his experiences during the war with me but he would never talk about the gap. I just know that it impacted him more than any other event he witnessed during WW2.
my great grandpa, Staff Sergeant Julius Wetter survived Omaha Beach and the rest of the war in Europe and lived until 2004. he saved many lives after yelling for everyone to take off their packs.
Wow! That was amazing! The animation, the narration and the detail, all top notch. Well done, that must have taken hours and hours to put together, so thank you.
I think Dday is one of if not the proudest moments for the US. Its interesting to put yourself in the shoes of those young guys, I mean the paratroopers had no guarantee that the army would even secure the beach and they could easily just be surrounded and taken as pows. Or imagine what it was like as an 18 year old to watch the door drop on your landing craft to see constant machine gun fire, no cover, men in the fetal position crying, hundreds of dead bodies, and injured men writhing in pain. It mustve been surreal.
A good short documentary could be the often overlooked Norwegian Campaign or the Arctic Convoys. These documentaries could be really good like these. I hope you consider this as an option. Overall very well made video. Keep up the good work. 👍
Among the Canadian there was a figure familiar to sci-fi fans. James Doohan, better known as "Scotty" of Star Trek. He lost fingers from one hand, to German bullets, on D-day
In the Scene in The Next Generation where Scotty is in onboard The Enterprise D he and Picard shared a toast to the original Enterprise and you can see his hand with the missing fingers

May I make a slight criticism? I believe that the 'floating' tanks were released too far from the beaches in the American sector and that they performed quite well for the British, also that the use of specialised armour (to help clear mines for instance) was spurned by US forces to their detriment?
Kind of. Most were set off late except for the 741st battalion. After reading an article in Wikipedia. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DD_tank#:~:text=Also%2C%20the%20tanks%20of%20741st,mi%20(4.8%20km)%20offshore. It says that the dd tanks were took out by cannons, but mostly the 6 ft. High waves, which were 5 feet higher than they were designed for. Yes, tanks of the 741st battalion were set about a mile farther than they were made to. This led american crew members to radio back to drop them closer, which led to the destruction of the rest of the tanks under german cannon fire. The only tanks that made it were those that had sailers as skippers. Also American troops had been counting on bulldozer Sherman's to clear obstacles, however much of them were destroyed. Sword beach had had calm seas, while Juno beach could only launch one battalion, leading to heavy casualties Utah beach lost I think 2 dd tanks, while gold beach had taken lots of tank casualties, but displayed the power of sherman crab tanks As for Americans ignoring them, I have heard both ways, one that their thinking was too constrained and that Americans always think they know best, and the other is that while Bradley did order much of them, Eisenhower did not have time/ resources to get them and train american troops to use them and them learn how to apply them.
Rob, Similarly, the American built Mulberry Harbour (Jerry built) was completely destroyed by channel storms whereas the British built harbour although severly damaged was reparable. It seems the Americans always want to reinvent the wheel.
@@mtsenskmtsensk5113 or maybe its because the American one hadnt been finished before the storm hit, also, the wreckage from the American one was used to reinforce the british one.
@@angrydoggy9170 Oh, definitely a collective effort. I am a descendant of a Canadian soldier and a Dutch warbride. I recognize that the war was won with the value of the Allies. I am simply defining the weight and sacrifice of the Soviet Union had on the reich which caused 10 million casualties and irreplaceable material losses that simply dwarfs the western front's necessity to end the war entirely.
My grandpa did his part in the liberation of the city of Nice, helping to take back the police sation (gendarmerie). He was granted a Croix de Guerre avec Étoile de bronze (War-cross with bronze star) medal and a bit of money, he never went to get etheir. He was named Joseph Jorda and died before i could call him anything but "Pepe Jo'"
Great animation and production values. Really good job! I found the focus points to be similar to the ones that Rick Atkinson focused on in his trilogy. Honestly, reading contemporary WW2 Western Front histories, it's almost as if it's a surprise the Allies won. :)
This whole video, the entirety of people displaced or killed and city's ruined just shows shows the level of disruction. I love learning about it but it's always tough to take in the harsh reality
My great grandpa who served in France as a minesweeper said it best "Thank the gods for the Soviets, every bit of fighting they did kept us from further harm. I owe my life to their men who died so my friends and I would not."
Once I have money to spare I'm gonna subscribe to your patron. Your animation is great and I admire your persistence against UA-cam and it's bullshit. History should be remembered!
Hope to see a large scale video like this one on the entire Eastern Front aswell, also in the Pacific War, from the Island Hopping Campaign, to the Sino-Japanese Front, the Burma Campaign, as well as MacArthur's Campaign through New Guinea to the Philippines.
You should do a documentary on the Battle of Guadalcanal in WWII make sure to include the Medal of Honor stories during the whole campaign such as John basilone, and Mitchell Paige, and all of the land and sea battles of the campaign definitely include the battle of the tenaru, battle of Edsons ridge, Henderson field, and every other important naval and land battle of the campaign
The Guadalcanal campaign is one of the more interesting of the war because it is almost unique in involving months of aerial, land, and air combat by forces that were still relatively evenly matched. Japan could have won it. Most campaigns in the Second World War only involved two of those three (typically land and air) or featured forces that were not evenly matched. D-Day for example had a naval component but Germany was in no position to contest the landings at sea, and by that point Allied air forces had achieved superiority in the skies over France.
One on the eastern front? This was amazing and so fun to watch. Must have taken a lot of work, I am subscribed to you will notification bells on! Earned a like.

30:00 Yeah, if we ignore the Panzerdivisions, this is a brilliant plan (there were actual photos showing tanks, Market Garden is a pretty controvers topic)
"Commonwealth" wasn't just a reference to British and Canadian forces. Australian forces were there too and presumably others. "Commonwealth," rather, refers to the "Commonwealth" (of) nations, which are all tied to Britain, usually as former colonies.
no australian troops fought in the western front pretty much the entire commonwealth force was made up of british and canadian troops with a couple polish divisions and smaller units from czech etc.

Stalingrad and Moscow: Germany's downfall. These two defeats cost them nearly 2 million soldiers (deads and injured) and a vast amount of war materials/resources as well as the war overall. They failed to acquire the Caucasus which was their prime objective. Germans were retreating by February 1943 after Stalingrad's defeat. Moscow campaign was unnecessary and Austrian Guy knew that too. The generals followed the old tactic of "take their high-command down and you win" by choosing Moscow and it backfired badly. War was over by February 43. Germans were pushed out of SU before western allies made their drop in France.
Fire support for Operation Dragoon was delivered by HMS Ramillies, one of the British WW-1 super-dreadnoughts. I'm pretty sure it fired 15"-shells, given that it's main armament consisted of 8 15"-guns in 4 twin turrets. The US and French fire support ships hat smaller guns.

I also repeat that something done on this level could very well be used as a Learning Tool/Aid for teaching our students History.
Kudos......keep up the GREAT work.
Keep it up.
I love this type of documentary, they’re so immersive and plenty of details, I really enjoy it.
The quality of this channel has really improved over the years. Fantastic work.
Jerry
There was already a, second front though in reality, keeping many resources away from thr Eastern Front.

Hands down the best produced documentary you have ever made. The scale and cinematic feel of it was insane, please try more like it.
Wow! That was amazing! The animation, the narration and the detail, all top notch. Well done, that must have taken hours and hours to put together, so thank you.
UA-cam should recommend this to children who fall in love with history
I’ve already watched countless video’s on nearly every operation of world war 2, but it’s like a drug, I CAN’T STOP WATCHING THEM
Would really like to see a full feature length documentary from you guys, could potentially be among the best documentaries ever made!
I'd like to see Downfall of Germany on the Eastern Front someday. That'd be pretty entertaining. Pus the Art Style, Graphics and overall quality from this one would've improved a lot. really great animations! keep it up!
This series covered much of it already in an episode entitled "Operation Begration"
@@blasterelforg7276 Operation Bagration only covered Bagration. I want the entire Eastern Front, not just some small operations. plus the Defense of Moscow, Siege of Leningrad and Battle of Stalingrad would all be enhance from pervious styles.
@@imaginewt9616 Stalingrad has been covered by 10 million channels on UA-cam. Why you want every channel repeating the same story at the expense of lesser known ones? If every channel starts sounding the same it takes away from originality.
Bagration is the d-day of the east. As France was in the west, Belarus is in the east. However, given the scope of this video. I could say he could start everything that happened from June 1944-April 1945 of the east.
@@blasterelforg7276 Oh yeah because the Western Front has *never* been talked about...
I know this is late, but this is an amazing video. I 101% think the team should keep creating these short documentaries. Good work!
This is how amazing and rich history looks when UA-cam doesn't censor history
It don't matter that it's HISTORY!!!! geez.... it has to fit the "new" narrative. Re-arrange it to fit.
Oh yes I love videos like these! With full run downs, amazing art, and fantastic narration. Keep up the great work!
22:10 has to be one of my most favorite details I’ve literally ever seen on this channel. The barrel of the MG42 getting so hot that it needed to be changed, and then the animation of it actually getting changed was incredible. These animations have gotten so much better.
This whole thing is just.. wow amazing that i am speechless to see that wonderful work and heart put into this video with the animation and info needed to make it. Bravo Armchair!
I never thought I would say this but “when you run out of ideas, you remake your own videos.”
I love learning about WW2, and you have been feuling that love by making a full documentary of Germany's downfall from the Western front! Can't wait to see the Pacific War on this channel one day or another!
Very cool video! You can make one about the eastern front and talk about many forgotten nations that fought in the eastern front like Romania, Poland and Hungary. Keep up the good work
Minor roles. He needs to do USSR though
Yes please! I want more short documentaries like this!
May I make a slight criticism? I believe that the 'floating' tanks were released too far from the beaches in the American sector and that they performed quite well for the British, also that the use of specialised armour (to help clear mines for instance) was spurned by US forces to their detriment?
@@brian_s.4063 and launched too far out?
Sword beach had had calm seas, while Juno beach could only launch one battalion, leading to heavy casualties
Utah beach lost I think 2 dd tanks, while gold beach had taken lots of tank casualties, but displayed the power of sherman crab tanks
As for Americans ignoring them, I have heard both ways, one that their thinking was too constrained and that Americans always think they know best, and the other is that while Bradley did order much of them, Eisenhower did not have time/ resources to get them and train american troops to use them and them learn how to apply them.
@@brian_s.4063 So they were launched too early?
Rob, Similarly, the American built Mulberry Harbour (Jerry built) was completely destroyed by channel storms whereas the British built harbour although severly damaged was reparable. It seems the Americans always want to reinvent the wheel.
@@mtsenskmtsensk5113 or maybe its because the American one hadnt been finished before the storm hit, also, the wreckage from the American one was used to reinforce the british one.
would love to see more such intresting and creative fragments of major world history events spun into a short video documentary
An eastern front version of this would be amazing
You mean Russia's "Operation Bagration" only 2 weeks later and larger in scale.
Considering the eastern front is what actually was the downfall of Nazi Germany, yeah
@@bilbobaggins6251 Not really, the demise of the third reich was definitely a collective effort.
@fuckyoutubepolicy staff I agree about the trucks
This is a fantastic video about Russia war production. ua-cam.com/video/fcpUdhj-9A8/v-deo.html
Absolutely amazing video, so much work into it and it paid off
This video is amazing I love how long it was, I sat and watched every minute, your production and animation is also very good
The ad roll right after that serious introduction was whiplash inducing
Great animation and production values. Really good job! I found the focus points to be similar to the ones that Rick Atkinson focused on in his trilogy. Honestly, reading contemporary WW2 Western Front histories, it's almost as if it's a surprise the Allies won. :)
Another masterful work from you!
Keep up the great work, even at the face of others!
A story that never gets old, we should never forget it.
I'm lost to the words to describe how impressed and happy I am with the quality of this, for free, on youtube. Thanks a hundred times over!
This whole video, the entirety of people displaced or killed and city's ruined just shows shows the level of disruction. I love learning about it but it's always tough to take in the harsh reality

The detail of the German machinegunner changing his barrel is amazing, yet another great video.
My great grandpa who served in France as a minesweeper said it best "Thank the gods for the Soviets, every bit of fighting they did kept us from further harm. I owe my life to their men who died so my friends and I would not."
The Soviets had massive loses just like the Chinese kept the Japanese occupied
Grandpa was delusional for thanking the soviets. He was in France didnt deal with soviets then.
The animation is just too good!
Once I have money to spare I'm gonna subscribe to your patron. Your animation is great and I admire your persistence against UA-cam and it's bullshit. History should be remembered!
Your animations have taking this to the next level. Pass on a good word to the artist(s).
It's so crazy to me that all of this was going on and Switzerland did absolutely nothing.
Hope to see a large scale video like this one on the entire Eastern Front aswell, also in the Pacific War, from the Island Hopping Campaign, to the Sino-Japanese Front, the Burma Campaign, as well as MacArthur's Campaign through New Guinea to the Philippines.
Can you do a video about the Second Italo-Ethiopian war from the Ethiopian view please.
Yes!!!
General Hobart never gets the credit he deserves for his ingenious modified tanks that greatly helped D-Day, among numerous factors.

Or, you know, just watch a regular documentary about it.
Basilone was a NJ native, Although he was from Buffalo spent most of his life in Raritan and was with the 1st Marine Division
26:51 "Although wounded and limping, the German Wolf still has its teeth"

The work thats been in put into this is phenomenal , love the illustrations 🙏🔥
Certainly didn’t happen this way in my recent HOI4 campaign.. The Allies sat there while they let Poland do all the work
The Poles won the Battle of Britain. Or so they keep telling us. All 100 pilots (out of 3,000) of them 😂.
God, I hope more war films are made from the perspective of other allied countries.
Viva la revolution!
The only other allied nation that doesn't parallel the US perspective is the USSR
Amazing video! Love this longer format!

What happened to the Japanese uniforms video?

Fire support for Operation Dragoon was delivered by HMS Ramillies, one of the British WW-1 super-dreadnoughts. I'm pretty sure it fired 15"-shells, given that it's main armament consisted of 8 15"-guns in 4 twin turrets. The US and French fire support ships hat smaller guns.
