      So true.
Laura sets herself a very punishing schedule. Sixteen days continuous work - no wonder a relatively small hiccough feels like a major derailment. Human bodies need rest. Humans also need play.
Laura, go and play! Pootle around, make little, inconsequential things. Allow your mind and body to rest. Allow yourself time to read, to draw, to watch youtube, videocall your family. When you are ready, you'll be able to jump back in, and make the big things too.

Hey Laura this is your 68 year old Uncle Jim in California. Everybody has a breaking point, some higher, some lower. The ones with a high breaking point just crash a little harder.
My free advice is walk away for a while and do some things just for you.
Go fishing, go camping, go roller/ice skating with friends. Whatever, just fun stuff without goals or deadlines and get your life back on center. But as an example I've had a little fun recreational project simmering on the back of the stove for several months while I took care of the "IMPORTANT STUFF!". This morning I started actual plans and I don't have the right tools/experience to do it so I just dropped the idea. Remember no goals or deadlines!
It's taken me a long time to learn the signs that I'm about to crash and burn, it's time to change my course. A little shortcut to getting centered again is to help someone else with something. Uncle Jim.

Wish, at 58, I had headed my gut more, So often I have felt a job or situation to be difficult and problematic and then my response has been that it is my responsibility to work harder and try more to fix that somehow. After finally doing this in a situation that almost destroyed me, I am trying to retrain myself to heed these intuitions and not to overrule them with my head and sense of duty. So glad Laura is much smarter than I.

Youngest post yet at 35, but I will say the past 5 to 8 years, I've had to really learn this for myself. Resting and enjoying the life that's yours, the only one you get... it's not worth punishing yourself to deny that in order to garner the approval of a select few "friends" or "family" that don't want that for you. Sometimes that includes yourself! Never be ashamed of the bubbles you blow, for they are yours and no one can take that away.

I was here before the premiere and there were some pretty nasty comments when noone had even seen the video yet. I just don't get it. I work in a high stress job and there are days were I just need a break. Not because I don't like my job or because it's not right for me, but because sometimes pushing through is pushing too far and it is so important to recognize when you hit that point and step back, because that's the only way to make it sustainable. I commend you for doing that. It is a very important skill.

The smart thing is to recognise that are approaching yours (and also to recognise that most of us would have hit that wall far sooner!) I'm pretty sure that most of us who follow you would say the same - Take some time to do what YOU want to do. The house isn't going away. It will wait. We are not going away. We will wait too. You are no use to yourself or your family (or us for that matter!) if you don't look after yourself as number 1 priority. So do that please :)))x

I love how you “needing a break” is a total of 7 days away from a gargantuan project that was supposed to be a “lipstick rehab” but turned into a 2 year+ tear down and totally rehab that includes a series of crash courses in every aspect from the structure to the finishes…. I’m glad you’re catching it before it makes you start to absolutely dread going through that door everyday.
    It’s a makers vacation…

I'm an Industrial Design student from New Zealand, and I've been watching your house videos religiously Laura! It's true that I come and watch them for the creative inspiration and to look up to your immense drive in the face of seemingly relentless and unfair adversity. I've had some big struggles of my own in the last few years with depression and anxiety, and it's been a huge help for me to watch you and laugh with you and see you overcome things like you're talking about.
But it's also amazing and hugely refreshing to see such a hero of mine take a step back and make the smart, often stigmatised decision to recognise that some things are more important than ALWAYS 'pushing through' and 'overcoming'. I don't usually comment on youtube videos but you're a huge inspiration to me and many others Laura, and I hope you keep doing what you're doing, but I hope you keep doing it only while prioritising yourself and your health and family

What you said really resonates with my experiences when I have gotten burnt out and I'm so glad you're taking some time off before that happens and not trying to power through when it would be bad for you. Enjoy your break from the house, and I look forward to videos from the workshop!

Hi Laura, I have been watching your channel now for two years, but this video broke my heart. When I was 5 years old my family (two younger brothers and two adult parents) decided to build our own house. Hole in the ground at 5 years old, we were given basic tasks to help reach completion, but as we grew up we were taught how to do all of the different stages. We did everything from foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing, siding, drywall, flooring, etc, etc (with licensed inspections). My parents are both school teachers, so budget was the driving force in completion. We finished the house officially 13 years later as I graduated HS (18 yrs old) and moved out. We are a creative inspired family, and there are many happy moments from working on that house, but equally there were exhaustion days where working on the house was a dirty word. Please get your rest in, we could watch this saga for 13 years and still be happy!

Rénovating a house is such a gigantic project, and you already had so many issues with this one! It's normal to feel rough !

I have been wondering how buoy were able to keep up your pace and worrying that you would reach a point where it was all just a little too much. Good for you for seeing it and also acting on it. You are just solving another problem in your own beautiful and uniquely pragmatic way. Keep on taking good care of yourself and your new family. I will happily wait for your next video no matter how long a break you need!

Watching you say "I'm not burned out, but if I keep going at this for two weeks I won't be ok" feels just as motivational and uplifting as any other insight into joyfilled work you've shared. I hope that the next time I'm starting to get worn down by something, I have the intelligence and the self-preservation to step back as gracefully as you are.
I hope your break is as restful as you deserve. we'll be back when you are ready to start sharing what brings you joy again! (Weather that's this house or not)

Dealing with emotion, recognizing frustration, being able to identify you on the verge of a burnout is a powerful motivation. We all need rest, recharge, distract and all the little things that help us to go through life... I watch your content for I don't know how many years now, and this is such a good video and superb content as any of the previous ones I've watched. I don't know who you are, never been to your channel, but good for you for recognizing when you have had enough and need to step away. That does not change a single thing about you or your previous accomplishments and triumphs.
Taking a break right now, for yourself, and telling a bunch of strangers why, arguably makes you far stronger than if you had powered through. I doubt it was something easy for you to do.
I didn't even know it, but this was exactly the show of strength and human spirit I needed to see today... Thank you.

Hey Laura, I dont interact a lot on youtube, but feld i needed to say something.
5 Years ago i was studying design, and worked myself into a burn out. I picked up leather working that time to keep my hands busy. UA-cam was a good way to keep my brain busy without overwhelming it. And your video's where among the channels i followed that inspired me to persevere when i run into any challenges with any of my own creative work.
One thing i did learn was that no matter what project you're working on, it's never worth it to push yourself over your boundaries just because you don't want to disappoint anyone else.
Please take care of yourself, the house isn't going anywhere ;)
Lots of love from the Netherlands

Knowing when to stop is so important and I get it.
For the past 6 months, I have been doing tons of building on the ground floor of my house to turn it into a coworking space and then suddenly I badly injured my left shoulder.
The human body knows when to "shut us down", coming to terms with that is the most complicated part.
Take a good rest, go and do something else and I'm sure that in a few weeks time you will find your energy again.
    All the best.

I think that overcoming the worry of disappointing your viewers and putting yourself and your needs first could be considered its own obstacle to overcome. I certainly fight the guilt whenever I force myself to take a break and listen to what my mind and body are telling me. I guarantee that we are all rooting for you to relax, recharge, and enjoy as much time as it takes for you to feel a sense of peace again with this project. The reason it's so enjoyable when you and your team overcome challenges is because that, at least in my case, it's really, really nice to see when good people get a win. It's nice to see hard work rewarded. And it's been lovely to see the amount of love and support you get from your friends and other good folks when things do go awry. It's reassuring to us to witness in (semi) real time that there is still so much good and kindness in the world. We're happy for you! So, please, take as much time as you need and never for a second worry about what we think. But if you do find yourself worrying, rest assured we are SO happy to see you taking care of yourself. It's another win for a good person.

    Hi Laura!
First I have to say that I'm impressed by your energy and your enthusiasm. Producing each week videos on "Haus LiseLotte", living in L.A., one week projects, procrastination project, joint project with Simone,....
Restoring an house is a long time project. You have to manage your time and have some breaks time to time. Nowadays you're sharing your time between L.A. and Germany with "Haus LiseLotte" and those 2 projects are gourmand, and while rushing on both, reducing the time you want to spent on other projects.
This "Haus LiseLotte" project make so much sense, may be you have to make it going slower (who will take care of his horse travels longer) and have time to time more personnal projects.
May be it's also time to recharge your batteries, having an offbeat join project with Simone, the last one was... "uncompleted".
    Watch you soon
    Take care of you

You're right, the thing that keeps me coming back to watch these videos is your mindset. Yes, it's partly about how you overcome challenges but mostly about your transparency, authenticity and how you communicate "the why" of what you do.
Sure you didn't build anything tangible this week but we are here for you, not for what you do or make. Those things are just cherries on top. For me, the content doesn't matter: the connection and overarching story does.
There are two reasons for me that the house renovation videos a little more engaging than the other maker videos:
    1. We are invested in the ongoing journey. Living vicariously through you in the massive undertaking with a clear start and end point. But I do not feel like you need to rush to get there nor do I feel like you have to be in the house to keep building towards that goal. Is there a skill you want to learn or a new material your considering using that you could make an unrelated side project about as a test or a prototype that links us to the overarching journey even though we are on a side quest?
    2. Your camaraderie with the people you collaborate with. When Felix is there to take care of the filming we see a truer and more relaxed version of you. There are less things for you to think about, so we see more passion and fun. We also see that when you collab with Simone.
If you can link these two things in every video I know that I'll keep coming back and I'm sure others will too.

I've watched your videos since the very beginning. Not sure how I found them, but I greatly enjoyed your projects, videography, music, and editing and stayed with it as you've grown your channel. My wife and I bought a 100 year-old fixer-upper 15 years ago so when you bought your house I was excited to see how someone younger and more creative than myself took on the challenge. We worked on the house, the outbuildings, and 1/2 acre yard for 12 years and felt excited, exhausted, burned-out, inspired, and sometimes scared. We didn't have much money so scrounged for left-over and second-hand supplies as much as possible, but also had to complete some high-stakes improvements on our with only UA-cam videos to guide us. In the end, we created a beautiful home, workshop, outbuilding, and park-like yard but sometimes along the way we had to stop. I started to recognize when I pushed too hard and ended up making mistakes that cost me time and money. We sold the property to someone who fell in love with it and wanted to keep it going, and she's done amazing things. Exploring the limits of your mental, physical, and emotional capacity is exciting and rewarding but there is a limit. I now know my limits and how to recognize when I've reached them. Now you know as well, which is an important part of living a healthy life.
