I’ll add a few more of your suggestions in this pinned comment. 1. If the windows are down, use the key and hold the lock button, all windows will do up. 2. Don’t forget to subscribe and follow me on Instagram - instagram.com/tpnrainmaker/
Does this not also work in the opposite way, when the windows are shut, hold the key fob button and they will all open on approach allowing the car to ventilate on a hot day!?
You forgot the secret pull tab under the fender, remove wheel to get to it, that will manually open the frunk to access the battery. Also hold the Spoiler button for ten seconds to leave spoiler up instead of pulling the fuse.
A word of warning when removing the headlight to change the light angle when going abroad is to make sure that the unit is properly locked in. There should be an audile click on its return. If you do not hear this then the whole unit can fly out when braking as a friend of mine found out to his considerable financial cost.
Here is a tidbit that I don't believe was mentioned. As some may or may not know, the fuel filling door is locked anytime the car is locked. Here is the tidbit; if for some reason the fuel door fails to unlock automatically when you unlock the car, there is a hidden manual release ring/cable that can be pulled to allow you to open the fuel fill door. The ring/cable can be found by opening the passenger door (or whatever car door is on same side as fuel filler), possibly grabbing a flashlight, and looking into the cavity above the upper door hinge that leads towards the front fender (sorry that is the best I can describe it...lol!) You should see a little pull ring. It is resting in a little plastic hutch, so if you pull it you will just have to reseat it back into the notch so it doesn't flop around. It is described in the manual (page 195 of mine). Kinda of a neat little trivia item:)
Dude as an air cooled Porsche content creator I just want to say I’ve been a fan of your channel for awhile. Brilliant delivery. Definitely aspire to get where you are. So glad you decided not to shut down the channel due to the neighbor feud by the way. Loved seeing you rage about it though. Unreal what people do. 😂
when putting the side mirrors back out, push the ENTIRE shell in a tad and slowly release back to its upright position. putting your finger in to click the tab to release may cause it to snap back to hard/fast and pinch your finger off.
Two potential hidden features 1. After you unlock the door with your key fob, without inserting the key into the ignition, you can still operate the power windows. - works best for summer heat when you're not ready to get in but want the car interior cooled off. 2. This just happened to me, but I think the dashboard will alert you if the battery is low. - the past week, I've been seeing the clock reset and the Miles Remaining indicator show a "- - - -" the once a week I get into the car - well, this Sunday, the battery died after I Ieft the radio on for about 30 mins while drying the car - I wonder if those were warning signs that the battery were low
Here's another one. If you open the car with the key drum and keep it to the left for about 3 seconds, both windows will roll down. Same to bring them up. Great video!
I watched your previous channel and was sad you stopped it. I have had a 06CS for almost 2 years now and you taught me a few interesting things I did not know. Best of luck with this channel!!!!
Thanks for this! When I first encountered the sleep mode I thought the battery was dead, but like you said, I gave the handle a pull and it then unlocked. I don't know about any other hidden features, except for the not-really-hidden-but-nobody-uses storage compartments behind each seat that you kind of forget about over time.
Yeah, i didn't know the bit about folding back the mirrors - but more useful was the wake form sleep by pulling the handle, i need to try that. So thanks a lot.
An extension to #4 is if you open one of the trunks using the remote, both doors will unlock as well, but if you don't actually open a door they will relock again in 60 seconds.
Beautiful Cayman and an informative video. I'd like to see a collaboration video between you and Max Revs - even if it is a recording of a video call discussing the 987...
I traded my 987.2 in about a year ago, so I can't check. But I could have sworn if I wanted the spoiler up, I just raised it using the button in the cabin and it would stay up until I pushed the button again? Always enjoy your videos. Cheers!
The tool kit in the front should also have a tyre inflation compressor that connects to the cigarette lighter, although I usually carry a foot pump in whatever i am driving. Not sure if the compressor is just for emergency use.. I was also surprised to find a pen holder and CD holder in the glove compartment, the former is quite handy.
I truly beleive that the holder is not for a pen, but for a tire pressure guage. there is a wider portion of the indent for it that allows the head of a pressure guage to fit perfectly
I had a 987 for years. Just sold it. It had a 3.4 to 3.8 conversion. I had no idea about the mirrors. No idea about the gas cap holder. No idea about lifting the handle to pull it out of sleep mode.
Regarding the fuel cap, I tried to hook it and then the cap dangles and keeps hitting the wing...If I just leave it loose it just hits the tyre so no damage done
Another brilliant video Satch. Very useful as most Cayman owners learn these features very slowly, in some cases after a few years of ownership. Thanks so much as always. Most Porsche owners love their cars and keep them for many years. But what will the future hold with EV's getting more and more popular. The road tax on a standard 2.7 Cayman 2007 is €1,350 and owning these fantastic cars might get more difficult. I'm sure it's the same in the UK.
Thanks Niall. I pay about £350 for tax here in the UK but prices are just going up and up for them. 1350 euro is a lot, daylight robbery in fact. Such a shame.
There's a manual release cable for the Cayman's rear hatch behind the driver's side wheel. You can reach up underneath the rear bumper and find it. Not sure if it's the same for RHD Caymans, but worth a look. Great info in this vid, I've had mine 4 years and didn't know some of this!
That is only for absolute emergency. It is destructive to the cables plastic route path and is a one-time solution. I assume you're talking about the front trunk unlatched
Currently I don't own a Porsche but I am looking to purchase a 986 in the near future. I am going to.purchase the icarsoft prior to ownership as I want to be armed with a fault reader to see if there are problems that aren't evident by just visual or a test drive alone. I figured it could save me a fair bit of cash. Theoretically the icarsoft to would then more than pay for itself. Who says just because you own the diagnostic tool you have to have a Porsche?
The tool can serve as a great tool when buying a Porsche Neil. It will give you an idea of anything lurking behind the scenes. Here’s a tip though, take the car for a long test drive, then scan it for codes. If the dealer/seller has cleared any codes before you turn up, then wouldn’t show up straight away, but they should show up after a long drive, or a few cycles of the diagnostic system running its checks. 👍
Hi mate, just in the market to find a 987.2 Cayman S and love your videos. Down to earth, good production and content - I will be watching more and closely :)
Learnt a Lot ty...my Cymn S has a spoiler button in the center console far left low position with yellow indicator led, that indicates Spoiler Out and speedfunction disabeled when "on"
My rear boot wouldn't open with either the fob or the latch, and seeing the spoiler fuse might cause that, especially since the ECU was saying their was a spoiler error. thanks for showing me that!
The toe hook plate can be removed on front bumper, for an after market licence plate holder / bracket installation, that bolts onto the toe hook. So that you don't have to have put holes in the middle of the front bumper for a traditional license plate frame holder. Porsche also has a trickle charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter slot for storage of a few weeks or longer.
Interesting. Didn't know about sleep mode. With my first 'shared' Caymen, which was garaged, my fellow owner and I often though the key was having intermittent problems! Just bought a 2011 Gen 2. The previous owner of 6 years obviously was unaware of the concealed tool area as he said there was no compressor. I found it, although I didn't know that the other packet was the 'gunk'. Cheers.
