We tried using a wet scrub brush on the power button for about 45 seconds but with no results. Have you ever seen results in that short a time, or do we have to scrub for about ten minutes?
Buy local, do not go through big box with repair companies they outsource to. Be warned, after multiple nightmares I learned this lesson. This guy's experience is the norm!!!!
We woke up this morning and the power button is fully depressed and so we cannot turn on the dishwasher anymore. I tried turning off the fuse for about 20 minutes.
Scunge can build up around buttons. Use a wet scrub brush and scrub around button to see if it pops back out. If it’s a sealed button you may be out of luck.
I have this very dishwasher… love it. My husband pulled out the top rack- toooo hard🙄and the rack came off the right side track… we can’t/ don’t know how to fix it.. any helpful comments out there?
Did the rack come off the track? Put the rack back in the track and place the cap over the end of the track. If the track came off the edge of the dishwasher there should be plastic stay clips that hold it on. Snap the plastic stay clips back into the holes. If the stay clips are broken check with Maytag for parts or the appliance shack
Yes, it flashes forever. Drives you nuts! But mine shuts off and only the light flashes. You would think it would just beep a couple times and shut off. It really doesn't take any electricity though. There is an anti wrinkle setting where it spins every 10 minutes of so. on the dryer if that's what you are talking about. You can turn that off.
@@robsgaragewoodworkin I’ve been told a water float maybe under the unit:(. And this is new Kitchen Aide… weird! A plumber came checked the water valve all good.
At the back of the rails there are plastic ends. There should be a stay tab on the top and on the bottom. You should be able to press them in and pull the plastic out of the metal rails.
I'm glad I found this. We were just looking to replace our dishwasher with this model (actually one letter off, but still). I wish I had researched the Samsung fridge (bad icemaker) before I bought it.
Just getting ready to buy one because of the MOST POWERFUL MOTOR. I always thought Maytag to be the best. I remember the old commercials with the Maytag repairman always looking lonely and or sleeping on the job because He never gets no repair work to do. So glad I stopped and watch this video. The last thing I need is a headache! Off to get the Bosch 500 or 800 series instead. Thanks a Bunch!
It's too bad, it really had the best rack systems and based dishes well and was very quiet. Had no filtration system and died at the 3 year mark and when I took it apart (not user serviceable at all) it was full of food particles, grease and dirt. Horrible design! I have the Bosch 300 series now. Not nearly as nice but it has a good filter design that works very well.

After the fixes has it worked? I have a 9 year old Maytag with top controls, circuit board went at about year 7, I replaced it and it has gone again. I feel moisture is getting into the door, that is the problem. I do not know if Maytag has improved or enhanced the design now in 2021. I think I will try a Bosch machine, I need to get a new machine, after this review I think the Maytag might be a bad choice even though the unit has a lot of good features.
It worked for another year then it died again. Pulled it apart and it was just a horrible design. Full of food particles and dirt buildup everywhere. Plugged solid! I replaced it with a Bosch from Costco (they add 1 more year to the warranty and I bought an extended warranty)
I bought one a month ago. Just installed it today. I bought it for, 'not having to rinse the dishes and saving on the water bill.' I hope I didn't make a big mistake! I wish I would've seen your video a while back. I had a 14-year old Kenmore that worked just fine LOL. I'll update if I run into any problems.
Hope you have more luck than I did! The old dishwashers, washers, dryers, fridges, freezers, used a little more energy and water but ran forever saving all the manufacturing and recycling energy of replacing them every 4 years.
I have had this same dishwasher for almost 5 years with no issues until it needed to be cleaned about a year into owning it. Cleaned it about every 6 months to a year since the first year because food really builds up in it and I don’t put much food in it. Then about 4.5 years the motor died and that’s where I am right now…sad because I really liked this dishwasher. I called Maytag to see if they would replace the motor since the appliance guy had said it shouldn’t have broken this soon. I was a very loyal customer (bought a washer/dryer) but will not buy Maytag again after this dishwasher. I guess mine lasted more than most but still think appliances should last more than 5 years especially when the machine looks brand new still.
Yes you really need to pull it apart to clean it. Not for there faint of heart! However I really liked the washer when it worked! I totally agree with you! Appliances should last for at least 10 years!
Well, back in 2008 when high efficiency washers were introduced, they were the first machines to start the biggest appliance corruption I’ve ever seen. Cause first it was washers they began going after and putting unnecessary ridiculous sensors and computers in them which will only cause problems, and then they began going after dryers and dishwashers and anything that takes in water or a lot of energy just to meet energy regulations. It’s absolutely ridiculous it’s why you can’t buy a traditional top load strong agitating machine anymore other than a speed Queen. They will never be made to last long anymore, hold on to old appliances. I have 3 whirlpools from back in the day still running flawlessly.
@@tuumboon61 People seem to have good luck with Bosch. That’s what I have now. It has a pretty good filter system that is user serviceable. Have to clean it frequently. It’s funny how old appliances lates forever and new ones last only a few years…
@@robsgaragewoodworkin yes we had a kenmore that worked for 22 😉. I was reading about the Bosch and i keep hearing about a moldy unpleasant smell. Plus if prefer something u don’t have to clean so much but beside the smell I do hear it’s one of the best. Just pricey
Glad I watched this video. I have a 30 year old Maytag dishwasher that is still going strong, so I thought I would stick with them for my current purchase. We remodeled our kitchen and we're going with stainless appliances, but now that I know this they won't be Maytag.
Fantastic review. Glad I watched this first. Thanks. I have a kitchen aid and I constantly have to drain it before I run it otherwise dishes don’t come out that great. I need to get rid of it and and do it like our parents did. Takes a little more time but saves $$ and aggravation.
If you take the washer apart completely you might find its full of guck inside. When I pulled the Maytag apart I realized it was just a ridiculously stupid design that was destined to fail (designed obsolescence). The old washers from the 70's lasted forever!
Interesting …. I own the same dish Washer. It doesn’t wash well at all. Each month I have to dismantle every part and clean it. It Leaves a gouwi film everywhere. My next dishwasher will not be in the whirlpool family!
Gosh.... we bought an Amana dishwasher 4 years ago.... it is very basic with an interior of a (white) plastic-tub. We've had NO problems with it as all! AND..... it only cost $270.00 before sales-tax! Unreal that an expensive Maytag dishwasher with stainless-steel tub is such a piece of crap!!
@@robsgaragewoodworkin When I was a kid my parents purchased a Maytag dishwasher (manufactured in Newton, Iowa) & the only thing replaced on it in 28 years was the belt between the motor & the pump.... & that was changed only 1 time. That dishwasher was used very often & was running alot. Ultimately there was an issue in the main power-module & Maytag was no longer making replacement-parts for that machine, so we replaced it with the Amana. They sure don't make things like they used to!
LOL! Good question! I have never had a washer last more than 5 years (6 people in our family so they get heavy use). I have purchased a Bosch this time, so fingers crossed...
You are so right, I bought Whirlpool and maytag appliance when I remodel my kitchen FIVE years ago. I already replace my Maytage washer (and dryer had to have a set) , have to replace the dishwasher and need the refrigerator to be repair. Looking for a dependable company, thanks for the info on the Whirlpool appliance companies.
Well listen i had the same issue with GE dishwasher . GE try to fix my appliance 3 times but they failed. The Extended warranty decided to buy back my dishwasher. If you think Maytag is bad well GE is the same. From my experience always buy extended warranty always.
I took the filter out of mine to clean now it rubs a little when you turn it manually, but don't hear it rub when it's running. I have been having issues with it shutting off a few seconds after starting a cycle. Flipping the breaker off on on fixes it for a month or so. Probably by a bosch next !
LOL! It has so many good things about it, I was pissed when it died and even more angry when they couldn't diagnose the problem and repair it within a reasonable time. Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Rob
I haven't had a dishwasher last more than 3 years including this one, the past 10 years or so. Had 3 Bosch dishwashers before this one. The 3rd one barely over a year. I'm convinced there aren't any good/decent manufacturers anymore. I can still buy replacement parts for my 30 year old clothes washer and dryer... and washes just fine with much much much less repair headaches. So aggravating. My Maytag is 3 years old. The supply line, after the control valve to the tub, rotted out from the inside and started leaking some time before I noticed water seeping out of my exterior brick wall. By the time I discovered it it sprayed water all over the tub causing damage to my cabinets and other parts of the dishwasher I just spent $200 alone on new parts. A month later I have another leak coming somewhere around the center bottom. I'm about to boot this this piece of junk.
It all started when they went to ECO appliances to save 3 gallons of water per year or 10 watts of electricity. They now make them so "efficient" you need to replace all your appliances every 5 years. How is being "green" saving the planet??? Think of all the electricity and resources used and the pollution it causes replacing appliances 10-15 years too early. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but I'm frustrated too!
I appreciate your review and story. We have a GE right now that isn't draining and is attracting bugs into our kitchen. The installer came out to check out a "sealing" issue and said he will recommend to the store it should be replaced. Now we wait.
Stay AWAY FROM ANY GE, especially dishwashers!!! I have had 2 and a nightmare. They have gotten worse and they are no longer made by the real GE I understand and just have that name. Be Warned!! Buy local, the repair places/companies stink and local has much better options. You might pay slightly more but your will be happy in the long run.
I bought Maytag MDB8959SFZ dishwasher about a year ago but only had it installed for about 5 months since we were doing a complete remodel on the kitchen. I have issues with the door popping open and water going all over the floor. Seems to be getting worse. Was hoping to finds a quick fix for this. Guess I will be calling the Maytag man.. :(
So how is it running? Is it still working today? I got a Maytag dishwasher last month the front control model and wondering if Maytag is still a good brand? I also got the 5 year extended warranty.
It's working really well (at the moment). Maytag brand is currently owned and manufactured by whirlpool corporation. They aren't really a good brand anymore and I really can't say which appliance manufacturer is actually good. They all seem to have major problems. Whirlpool brand laundry equipment is starting house fires in Europe and the company is handling that poorly according to the news. Everything seems to be made to last for a few years only and seem to be set up for planned obsolescence. Dishwashers and laundry teams frequently fail before 5 years are up. You should always get an extended warranty for appliances now. It was wise of you to invest in the warranty. Best of luck! Cheers! Rob
Oh man that sucks! I have never been "brand loyal" and buy what looks best at the time and I have had 3 kinds of front loaders (top and mid line) and all have failed before 5 years. The last one the dryer died within a month of the washer. Planned obsolescence? I think so... Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Rob
@@robsgaragewoodworkin Yeah I had an LG front loader that lasted 12 years with no issues and no one wanted to work on LGs or Samsungs when it died. Now I prefer to buy appliances that are made or assembled in America and since I prefer front loaders over top loaders, I now have to deal with planned obsolescence when the boards from Asia go as well as spotty customer service. Took me 6 weeks to get a replacement board for my Maytag front loader. Have a brand new Maytag french door that I've had for 9 months with no issues at all. Made at the last Maytag plant in Iowa in rural Amana
Sorry that I did not see this review before. I just bought a Maytag dishwasher and have the drain problem from the first run. I am not going to waste time with the service people. I am going to return it.
Rob, Have the same dishwasher and having the same problem as you did. After the fix is it still working okay and how long has it been now from the fix date? You said they replaced all those parts so your not really sure of what one part it is for sure I take it was. Out of warranty hat to just buy all those parts if I only need one or if the fix only last 6 months before it craps out again. Please let me know. Thanks
I would try the float sensor first. It tells if there is water in the washer, if its full or empty. That was what the repairman said it "couldn't be". That is the most logical starting place. It's working like new (again). Check to see if your dishwasher is level also. That can affect the sensor. Good Luck! Cheers! Rob
I like it a lot but I had a breakdown and the repair process was horrible. My advice would be to go back go and get an extended warranty - just in case. Good Luck with your purchase. Cheers! Rob
This is just bad experience. But I understand frustration. These days you need to know everything and do your own research. For those who are handy probably never call customer support. I wouldn’t either; it’s waste of time. Refer to either UA-cam or other repair websites like repair clinic. Never buy warranty, especially for appliances. Now, in reference to Maytag, well, with this mindset never buy anything.
Unfortunately it was under warranty (only 6 month old). It died completely at the 3 year mark. Just out of curiosity I pulled it apart and found it full of food particles and grease everywhere. It had no real filtration system and food, dirt, grease were allowed to get into everything everywhere with this horrible design. To top it off, none of those areas were user serviceable.
@@robsgaragewoodworkin yeah. This really sticks. I personally don’t like Samsung, but LG product seems to be much better. As for Maytag, based on feedback sounds like defective product and should’ve been replaced. Too bad that customer service was throwing meaningless warranty instead of replacing a product. That is why I never buy warranty. Waste of money and in most cases doesn’t justify investment.
What's the general opinion on Maytag dishwashers? I had a Bosch in a house I just sold. I lived in the house for seven years. I bought the Bosch which was like $1000 at the time. I just moved in to a different house and I want to replace the ugly, white appliances with stainless steel units. I'm looking at a Maytag dishwasher that's like $750. It has good reviews. I've been partial with the Maytag brand for my clothes washer and dryer because they've always been very reliable. But I have zero experience with Maytag dishwashers.

LOL! You think the dishwasher died after 6 months of use because of plumbing? You do realize that a dishwasher only has an inlet for fresh water, an outlet for wastewater and a plug for electricity. It's not complicated. Even for my "boomer" parents. The model you have may be of different construction. Let's hope that it is!
I had a Kitchenaide dishwasher that rocked for 23 years. It got super loud near its end and I bought this dishwasher from a local store. It has quit after a year. The start button doesn’t work. I need a dishwasher. I did the breaker restart the button restart and I need my dishwasher . 1 year for. 900 dollar dishwasher.
That SUCKS! I know your pain! Fortunately ours died 6 months in and was covered by warranty. Get ahold of your local dealer and try to work something out. At least a free diagnostic Best of Luck!!! Rob
No, I bought it because it had the best rack system. So much stronger and smoother than all the other brands. Also it falsely boasted a 10 year warranty, which it turns out, only covered the chopper blades and stainless steel tub. After it died (the second time) 3 years later I bought the bosch which isn't nearly as nice but hopefully it lasts... Cheers! Rob
I got a Maytag MDB9959SKZ. Pretty much the same as yours. It never cleaned dishes that good, and just got worse! I'm currently going through an even worse nightmare than yours! And I've only been using it for 4 months! So after watching your video.. I'm going to bite the bullet, and just go buy a new one. A NON whirlpool product! And just take my new $800 dishwasher to the dump! I hope as many people as possible can watch this video before they buy a whirlpool product so they will be saved from this nightmare and from an $800 kick in the balls!
It's too bad its such a bad design because when its new it works great, it's super quiet, the racks are smooth and sturdy and the dishes are spotless. But inside the machine it totally gets gummed up as all the crap gets inside but never chopped up and flushed out. Just keeps collecting like a dirty vacuum bag...
Have the exact same one - washes ok - bought it four years ago. Today, completely dead. I have NO idea why. Not looking forward to calling Maytag. (Yes, I could start my own looksie like other videos on UA-cam, but I do not want to ruin the warranty.)
I have the same dishwasher. It leaked right after install. Six weeks three repair visits same deal. Has worked well for about a year and a half and now it won’t start. I paid too much for it to be this crappy.
It's a good machine when it runs. I was pissed when it died 6 months in and even angrier after the first shoddy service. Then dealing with that crazy woman at the call centre who told me she was the CEO, what a nut job! This is why I made the video. I'm sorry you had bad luck too! Thanks for your comment! Good luck! Cheers! Rob
There is no local store near me, just the box stores. No local repair guys either. I like the washer and picked it out specifically for the "largest most powerful motor" and the really smooth racks, but when it died at 6 months in - I wasn't happy. When it took 3 months to fix - I wasn't happy. When the Maytag service call centre employee told me that they were the supervisor and CEO and I couldn't talk to their supervisor - I wasn't happy. Unfortunately local dealers are going the way of the Dodo. Appliances are mass produced with the greatest economies to generate the largest profits with the cheapest components and don't last like their predecessors did. Best of luck with your dishwasher and thanks for your comment. Cheers! Rob Cheers!
Question to Rob: as per its Manual, rinse aid is mandatory to avoid moisture buildup inside the unit. Have you used Rinse-aid regularly ? This may be the answer to the moisture buildup in your unit
Sad, I really want to support the American made brands but across the entire Whirlpool family it seems the circuit board or pumps fail only a couple years. Might have to buy a german brand, the biggest complains are with trying and run time, which I'll take if it last closer to the 10 year mark
I totally agree. We need to support our own economies and penalize companies that outsource. Unfortunately this is a horrible design. Great racks and sound deadening and good wash but all the food particles build up and strangle the machine. No filtering at all... And not user serviceable at all...
Thanks for the review! We bought the whirlpool equivalent of your Maytag and had alot of problems. Would you believe I replaced it with a 35 year old KitchenAid (made by Hobart). No issues whatsoever. It's not 47gb quiet, but it's alot quieter than alot of the machines today. I'm sticking with the old stuff if I can.
Right I have a 2005 Whirlpool powerclean, the final generation of that dishwasher series. Best machine made in my opinion and factually the most reliable. It still has an electronic control board but it’s the good one that was made to last. We bought the front control model of this in the video for my parents house today, I believe these top controls are absolutely lemons because of the design flaws in putting the board at the top, it’s hit or miss with all these new machines honestly. The washers nowadays are much worse…
Whirlpool used to be extremely high quality and reliability before about 2012ish….but What the? It was draining while pumping? That’s exactly what this model does when it drains it still runs the wash pump I believe, just like the previous generation point voyager series did. This is a more refined version of that. We bought the front control model today 2 years old used they remodeled kitchen and needed a different color machine they said they loved it, I believe these top control models are absolutely horribly designed because the board is clearly getting too hot and that’s why things malfunction. New dishwashers are hit or miss…they don’t use the same reliability and performance as they used to, I have no idea why but look at the HE washers that’s a prime example of it. But yeah, what idiotic service that’s absurd. This model will get clogged easily due to the filtration design, but that was ridiculous sounding of what the repairman said without even digging into the sump. I hope ours will be a good one most reviews on my specific model have been positive. Some are hit or miss like I said nowadays
@@robsgaragewoodworkin I got the 2020 model of what you have which has been refined, and it’s two years old I absolutely adore it. Runs so good and strong.
Mine started getting louder guy said it’s the chopper assembly messing up it’s in the motor on this one and just not sure it will make it another year customer service treats you like dirt at Maytag/whirlpool I’ll replace mine with lg or Samsung they are not owned by whirlpool that’s why them and yes buy extended warranties need them now,,,,,,,,,lol
i would never buy nothing that has whirlpool or maytag on it or you better have a 20 year warranty on it, went thru 2 maytag dishwasher right after 1 year warranty is out they quit and i had a whirlpool washer lasted 2 years and now i got ge brand and its been a great 4 years and running strong on dishwasher and 10 years on my washer
My 4 year old GE dishwasher went out the day before Thanksgiving. I did some troubleshooting via UA-cam but no success. Called in a specialist who was able to determine that all of the basic functions of the washer work fine except for the function of the controller board telling the washer that it was okay to start. He thought he could fix it with a replacement board only to find out that GE no longer stocks the board. He mentioned that my product was made during a transition. After GE sold out to a Chinese brand. He actually recommended and I purchase a Whirlpool not because they are great but because they are usually fixable and parts are usually available. Sometimes it seems you can't win for losing. I am thinking about one of the German Brands but had hoped to get something that was American. The KitchenAid brand, which is also owned by Whirlpool at least gives a 5 year warranty on the electronics. But they are also price you're so I guess you could just buy a Whirlpool or Maytag and fail a little extra for the warranty.
It seems they have all been bought out and are now run by crappy companies. They feature cheap inferior designs, parts and workmanship. By the sounds of it you got the last American built GE products... Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Rob
Maytag has poor factory quality control and no warranty support. mine died after 2 months. They have done nothing for 5 weeks and won't offer an exchange unit I wait 9 weeks for service and parts... never ever ever every buy this brand.
My Bro & Sis-In-Law purchased one of those Maytag model dishwashers about 3 years ago. They have a large family & she cooks most of their meals at home.... thus, running the Maytag dishwasher 1-2 times per day, 7 days a week. To this point, they have nothing but good things to say about their Maytag dishwasher. All the appliances in their kitchen are Maytag & no problems so far!
I loved the washer until it broke. Then they fixed it and it was just a wait until it dies scenario. It was dead within 3 years. We have a large family too and that's why I bought this model.
@@robsgaragewoodworkin That's terrible! Appliance manufacturers (years ago) used to make their products to last! Now.... it seems that they make them to break-down! Pretty sad.......
You can usually add a 3rd party warranty (store warranty) after you purchase appliances. You may be lucky or not so lucky (like me). I like the washer but was very disappointed when it failed and when I had to deal with their "service". Good Luck! Fingers crossed! Cheers! Rob
Initial reviews lack the evidence of long term durability. It worked like a champ until the 6 month mark. I like the washer, the performance and features - that's why I bought it. Unfortunately the newer energy efficient models are weaker, cheaper and more prone to breakdowns than the appliances of our parents generation. When it died there was a whole new issue with idiot repairmen and call centre divas. It took 3 months to get it fixed. If you read the comments there are others who have suffered the same issue. The thing is, with modern mechanical manufacturing, every unit is virtually identical and the chance of having similar problems is higher than ever before. Thanks for your comment! Good Luck with your appliance and whatever you choose I highly recommend an extended warranty. Cheers! Rob

Nice video, our start button doesn’t work, do you know if they will fix it under 10 year warranty, thank you.
The 10 year warranty covers 2 whole items. The stainless steel tub and the stainless steel chopper blade. Not even kidding...
@@robsgaragewoodworkindo u know more reliable one at similar or less price?
@@tuumboon61 People seem to have good luck with Bosch. That’s what I have now. It has a pretty good filter system that is user serviceable. Have to clean it frequently. It’s funny how old appliances lates forever and new ones last only a few years…
@@robsgaragewoodworkin yes we had a kenmore that worked for 22 😉. I was reading about the Bosch and i keep hearing about a moldy unpleasant smell. Plus if prefer something u don’t have to clean so much but beside the smell I do hear it’s one of the best. Just pricey
My Maytag failed after 37 months. 😢
Glad I watched this video. I have a 30 year old Maytag dishwasher that is still going strong, so I thought I would stick with them for my current purchase. We remodeled our kitchen and we're going with stainless appliances, but now that I know this they won't be Maytag.
It's a tough decision because they look and sound good but so many brands aren't that good anymore.
I have this, my washer is stuck on lock, how to unlock it? It’s new
I would try turning off the breaker for a minute. There is also a troubleshooting guide in the manual that you can check. Good Luck!
It
Leaves a gouwi film everywhere. My next dishwasher will not be in the whirlpool family!

Don't buy a LG because their customer service is absolutely horrible also!!!

Gosh.... we bought an Amana dishwasher 4 years ago.... it is very basic with an interior of a (white) plastic-tub. We've had NO problems with it as all! AND..... it only cost $270.00 before sales-tax! Unreal that an expensive Maytag dishwasher with stainless-steel tub is such a piece of crap!!
Yeah. They didn't think when they designed it at all!
They sure don't make things like they used to!
what model do you recommend?
LOL! Good question! I have never had a washer last more than 5 years (6 people in our family so they get heavy use). I have purchased a Bosch this time, so fingers crossed...
Did you find out how to reset the machine? If so what is it? TY for the video.
No. Unfortunately the machine does not filter out any food and the food clogs the entire machine up. Worlds worst dishwasher design!
You are so right, I bought Whirlpool and maytag appliance when I remodel my kitchen FIVE years ago. I already replace my Maytage washer (and dryer had to have a set) , have to replace the dishwasher and need the refrigerator to be repair. oh well, i guess I'll save a little more yo buy a Bosch
That’s what I have now. It has a trap in it to catch all the debris. I clean it out weekly (super simple)
Well listen i had the same issue with GE dishwasher . GE try to fix my appliance 3 times but they failed. The Extended warranty decided to buy back my dishwasher. If you think Maytag is bad well GE is the same. From my experience always buy extended warranty always.
Yes that's sage advice! Buy the warranty! Glad they refunded it for you!

How does the utensil holder on top rack attach in? Can you show a picture?
Washer has died again and been replaced by a Bosch. Stay away from maytag...
I took the filter out of mine to clean now it rubs a little when you turn it manually, but don't hear it rub when it's running. I have been having issues with it shutting off a few seconds after starting a cycle. Flipping the breaker off on on fixes it for a month or so. Probably by a bosch next !

@@robsgaragewoodworkin Yes Sir - Same oxymoron on "Saving the Planet" with electric vehicles too...
I appreciate your review and story. We have a GE right now that isn't draining and is attracting bugs into our kitchen. The installer came out to check out a "sealing" issue and said he will recommend to the store it should be replaced. Now we wait.

We just got rid of our GE dishwasher....was aweful...never HE again
Stay AWAY FROM ANY GE, especially dishwashers!!! I have had 2 and a nightmare. They have gotten worse and they are no longer made by the real GE I understand and just have that name. Be Warned!! Buy local, the repair places/companies stink and local has much better options. You might pay slightly more but your will be happy in the long run.
I've never had a maytag appliance that lasted more than 2years
I bought Maytag MDB8959SFZ dishwasher about a year ago but only had it installed for about 5 months since we were doing a complete remodel on the kitchen. I have issues with the door popping open and water going all over the floor. Seems to be getting worse. Was hoping to finds a quick fix for this. Guess I will be calling the Maytag man.. :(
Good luck with that! Good repairmen are hard to find it seems... Let me know how it goes.

Hotpoint has always been a GE product.
Cheers!
Rob
I'm looking at one now. It's a year newer so the top controls look a bit different. I hope they've fixed the other problems.
Get the extended warranty just in case. It's quiet and works well. Good Luck with your new appliance!

I am a huge Maytag fanatic and I was shocked that my one year old front load washer board went within a few days of the one year warranty expring.

Good Luck!

Well I can't recommend them anymore. Maytag was bought out years ago and their quality and designs have gone down hill since then.

I'm excited about my new Maytag... and I hope that this hate is indeed just Boomers who don't know about plumbing, and other, systens.

Be careful with those buttons as the panel pushes through and the buttons become inoperable.
Yeah, that seems to be the case with all the buttons on everything now...
Whoa, wanted to buy this because of the grinder. I presume you went with the Bosch 800?
No, I bought it because it had the best rack system. So much stronger and smoother than all the other brands. Also it falsely boasted a 10 year warranty, which it turns out, only covered the chopper blades and stainless steel tub. After it died (the second time) 3 years later I bought the bosch which isn't nearly as nice but hopefully it lasts...

Great review! So, what broke or was defective? This is so scary.
It doesn't filter anything out and everything gets stuck everywhere and its not user serviceable.

Have the exact same one - washes ok - bought it four years ago. Today, completely dead. I have NO idea why. Not looking forward to calling Maytag. (Yes, I could start my own looksie like other videos on UA-cam, but I do not want to ruin the warranty.)
The inside of mine was completely gummed up. The design doesn't filter anything out and food particles and grease stick to everything everywhere.
I have the same dishwasher. It leaked right after install. Six weeks three repair visits same deal. Has worked well for about a year and a half and now it won’t start. I paid too much for it to be this crappy.
It's a good machine when it runs. I was pissed when it died 6 months in and even angrier after the first shoddy service. buy local, not at a "big box" store- the local dealer really is good. my Maytag dishwasher is perfect.

Question to Rob: as per its Manual, rinse aid is mandatory to avoid moisture buildup inside the unit. Have you used Rinse-aid regularly ? This may be the answer to the moisture buildup in your unit
Yes we use rinse aid but its designed to leave a spotless finish on the dishes not prevent moisture buildup due to bad designs.
Not very reassuring I bought this model crossing my fingers
Yeah no shit! They really don't make them like they used to! Good Luck!

I hear ya! Best of luck with your appliances! Thanks for your comment!

i would never buy nothing that has whirlpool or maytag on it or you better have a 20 year warranty on it, went thru 2 maytag dishwasher right after 1 year warranty is out they quit and i had a whirlpool washer lasted 2 years and now i got ge brand and its been a great 4 years and running strong on dishwasher and 10 years on my washer
"you can't win for losing" Painfully True! Thanks for sharing!

Well it's been about a year since you posted this video. How is it going?
Still running! It's a little louder than it used to be.
O crap I just bought one .
You can usually add a 3rd party warranty (store warranty) after you purchase appliances. You may be lucky or not so lucky (like me). I like the washer but was very disappointed when it failed and when I had to deal with their "service".

Your talking like this happens to every one of these units, you just got a bad one theres plenty of great reviews on these products
