    Have you seen Clint's video where he talks about their taxonomic/ phylogenetic relationship to anacondas?

    mines been in a tub for 2 years , never uses a hide , barely find it soaking , usually semi burrowed , or kinds of purched , going to try adding leaves and stuff on top…about to build a enclosure to upgrade her for the winter coming

    Niceee. I got a few new reptibabies coming next week then finally getting a Rainbow Boa may wait till end of June for a show to get a better unedited view of one. Really want a false water cobra. Amazing to watch them swim.

    Did you see that they found pied rainbow boas? They’re not like a ball python pied, but they’re pretty cool looking.

    What plants are good to add to BRB water?

      Pothos is great. I haven’t tried it, but I think duckweed also be awesome.

    What is the temp of the water pls? My BRB will typically choose to be around 70f on the gradient, looking to put in a body of water at a comfortable temp for them. Thanks.

      The water temperature would be right around 70°. I find that my BRB also chooses to be on the cooler end of her enclosure almost permanently (70-72ish).
      However, if you look up the water temperature of the rivers in Brazil, they’re usually quite warm. Somewhere between 78 and 82° generally (or warmer). I may actually experiment warming the water with an aquarium heater at some point (obviously that would require a second water basin and a pump)

      @@AnimalsatHomePodcast The amazon river temp is why I asked the question. The issue for me is the microclimates of the amazon, but I have never seen data for. The ground temp in the amazon would be around 80f but 1) BRBs are possibly seeking out microclimates 2) they are nocturnal so would be experiencing lower temps at night. My boa has a gradient, lots of hides at but never seems to want to be any warmer than around 70f, except for when he comes out at night and appears to deliberately bask under his IR lamp at around 76-80f for an hour or so. BTW I really liked your last video regarding the negatives of keeping these animals in captivity. I personally use a tonne of space and enrichment but I have come to the conclusion that all exotics should either be banned or license-only. Partly because I don't think even a lot of the more conscientious really understand just how much space/enrichment these animals need and the fact that many people are just using RUBs. I personally have my BRB and a Thai coxi ratsnake. I won't be getting any more, just going to give those 2 a lot of space.

      Glad to hear you enjoyed the episode, sounds like you have the proper mindset for keeping! Two snakes is plenty, especially if you offer them a ton of space like you said.
      As for river temperature/microclimates… I completely agree, I have the same questions. I’m going to try and heat her pond to see if she uses it. I definitely will not be surprised if he stops using it when the water is warm though, as you suggest, they seem to enjoy cooler temperatures far more.

      @@AnimalsatHomePodcast What is your opinion on water quality? It's another subject I feel is misunderstood in the hobby. Some keeps sterilise their water bowls weekly with bleach (!!!), I never do. I just scrub it with a brush I use only for reptiles and refill using reverse osmosis water. However, I am considering putting in a large dish (like the one you have) or even a small fish tank with live plants in it. Would you consider this to be adequate as a drinking water source? People will keep BRBs in paludariums where the only water source is the "fish water". I am quite certain BRBs aren't drinking fresh, reverse osmosis water in the amazon, they will be drinking dirty (or what we consider "dirty") water, although there maybe things to consider there with microbiotic/immune adaption to that environment. Would be interested to hear your opinion. Thanks.

      @@AnimalsatHomePodcast also, can I ask you how often you change the water in that container? I am thinking about getting a ceramic Scoville type large roasting tin as a water dish (I try to avoid plastic), wondering how often it would need changed.

    How often do you change that water? How do you keep it from going bad?

    • @AnimalsatHomePodcast
      @AnimalsatHomePodcast  Рік тому +1

      This gets changed every 2 to 3 days so it always is relatively fresh. Eventually, I will be adding a pump to make water changes easier.
