Holy Jerusalem | "Nestled" in the rocks of Livadia
It is "nestled" between steep rocks, while the image gives it the feeling of a painting. The reason for the small church of Agia Jerusalem which is located in the south of Livadeia, built on steep rocks near the cave of Zoodochos Pigi.
To reach the chapel, the visitor has to climb about 700 steps, while it stretches on the steep rock of Parnassos, at the entrance of the "Varsamos" ravine.
Internally, the temple has an arch, a stone-built iconostasis and a stone-built iconostasis. Above the cave temple there is another cave called "grandfather's cell". It seems that a Jerusalemite Monk or ascetic lived in this cave. During the years of Turkish slavery, this little church was used as a refuge for the residents of Amfikleia and it is said that Odysseus Androutsos had his watchtower here.
The path to the church starts from the springs of Krya, in Livadia. We follow the cobbled street, next to the springs and after passing the open air theater of Kryas, the stairs start on our left. We cross the path which passes through a verdant slope, we meet the small church of Ai-Mina and we continue to the right in the direction of Agia Jerusalem. The view here is unique. Opposite to the left we see the Medieval castle, in the background Parnassos, to the right the stone theater, below the gorge formed by the river Erkyna and in the background the city of Livadeia and the plain of Kopaida.
On the way back, one can follow the well-maintained path that exists behind the chapel of Ai-Mina and leads to the field area and offers a panoramic view of the area.
