I didn't even know EVO was happening this week and i follow a lot of FGC related channels, i don't remember any of them talking about it, i don't know how i missed it
Not only that but I’m confused about the whole evo different regions thing..like are the winners of each region gonna compete against each other or are there just gonna be multiple evo champions for each region
He didn’t do anything out of the box to me. Like he got too comfortable. When nephew went to Rose and came back as kolin and it threw him off and he played to predictable. But I’m new to this so I could be wrong💀
So good to have Rose back in SF. She brought the hype. Congrats, Nephew. Love his Kolin. Most of my mains won Evo in all regions. Nerfs incoming in 3...2...1...
Ultimately Nephew capitalized on Samurai's obvious lack of matchups knowledge on the Kolin and Rose Matchups with Ryu. His use of V-Trigger 2 was a non-starter because he kept wasting his meter on V-reversals and he failed to optimize his damage in punishes with Cr.mk When he could have gone for at EX-Donkey Kick into Standing Axe into Donkey Kick for safe oki, he just went for Tatsu instead, resetting his momentum every time. He was clearly out of of his depth but it's a learning experience as an online EVO Finalist. Congrats to Nephew, he has really levelled up his game in leaps and bounds akin to IDOM. 2 most improved players in the American FGC.
Kolin struggles vs fireballs and V reversals get her back to neutral + inflict gray health so if her b.HK loses / trades with a fireball she is punished for it. EX Donkey kick into Standing axe is a screen position specific combo that does not have okizeme. Samurai may not know the Rose matchup well but he's been duking it out with Nephew for tournament finals for ages. No way he is out of his depths with Kolin.
@@malmarci tell that to the 2nd set. At least he rallied back in the first set to force a blind pick by Nephew on another xter he wasn't familiar with which paid off in a bracket reset. The point was he was always struggling to stay in mid screen because he couldn't get out of the corner without half his life already gone and even worse, he was eating throws because he was afraid to press button to avoid getting CCed. But that losers reset was a complete wash out that was painful to watch. If you don't agree with me at least go and watch MDZ Jimmy's match analysis of the first set.
16:40 That whole sequence showed a baffling lack of matchup knowledge on Samurai's part. If you allow Rose to get into the Spark/Punish rhythm you can't really throw fireballs anymore.
General consensus was Rose is low tier so it's pretty rare to find people playing her, much less pros like Nephew. It's not that hard to believe Samurai didn't knew the matchup or even expect to have to play it.
@@mappybc6097 He's a pro though, he should look into every matchup. Plus this isn't some high-level setup, it's just a general strategy/flow of Rose's zoning game that you'd see used even from lower-level Rose players (talking from experience here). It's true that he probably didn't expect to face a Rose here though.
@@Maryokutaizero I mean the most hype moment minus the Valle comeback for sf4 was infiltration literally doing just that with Hakan. People are computers man, they don’t hold infinite knowledge and if you’re gonna learn one match up in 5 who’s it gonna be? Akuma or rose? You’re gonna wanna learn everything about the stronger guy.
@@Neogears1312 You're overstating the complexity of the situation on show here, this is literally Rose zoning 101 and something you figure out after playing ten games with her. The stuff Infiltration pulled with Hakan was more in depth tech including some very matchup specific interactions (like using oil up after a hard KD to bait dash punch). It's understandable PR Balrog didn't know that but in this case Samurai pretty much just didn't know what one of Rose's special moves does.
Can you maybe post the entire Top 8 instead of individual matches all the time? 1 - I don't want to know who wins beforehand, posting the matches individually gives it away 2 - cycling through multiple vids sucks
Dont play SF, but can someone tell me why this particular stage is used for every tournament match. Doesnt SF have an evo tournament stage design within the game?
Not the best match I've ever watched; the way Nephew was playing, he should have won the tournament in the first set. I credit Samurai's fighting spirit, but his tentative play was ugly to watch, smh...
This match was great. Such a same I had no idea EVO was going on atm lmao
Amazing match? One dude was zoning the entire time.
Damn, Nephew keeps getting better and better. It's really incredible!

Incredible performance by Nephew!
That Rose pick switched the momentum back to Nephew lol
Samurai is usually really good, he just has no answers for nephew. It was like once he got cornered there was nothing he could do
i mean once u get put into a corner it becomes rock paper sissors so its a big gamble especially against a character that can light jab and grab

Nephew`s play style in the corner - THROW THROW THROW THROW
I don't play anymore but I enjoy me some Kolin and Lucia matches. They were fun to play and still fun to watch.

Yeah it's online at present which sucks.

Yea it does but most players like this map because it’s not as distracting
@@Connard15 And I also believe the Grid causes the least lag, and with this type of netcode, they don't need to play on that stage
Shitty netcode makes this one of the few stages thats playable online... Pity because SF5 has some beautiful stages
its not worth playing. worse sf ever
The programmers are bad at their jobs and can't make animated stages that don't cause lag with their shitty netcode.
