Agree. They only know the good side of democracy and the bad side of other systems. I love in Malaysia, and I.can reassure them that LKY was right. People of different races need to. Live in one community and learn about each other's differences and learn to accept it. In Malaysia, Chinese go to Chinese school, Malay go to Malay school, Indian go to Tamil school. To me, that's where the separation and discrimination begin.

And alas, were the journalists bolder back then, when GCT's reign just ended and LHL just took over as PM, despite this programme still being a propaganda/advertisement for the PAP?

I think they all had very valid questions and to LKY's credit he took the time to answer them patiently and admirably. The journalists did their jobs and asked the hard questions and in fact if it weren't for them, LKY wouldn't have acquitted himself as brilliantly as he did.
Very weak arguments from LKY about having GRCs. First he mentioned that its there to make sure there is representation of women and minority MPs. Then he said that the size of the GRCs are there to make sure that there are strong enough opposition. At 9:00, LKY finally in a implicit way, finally came clean about why the GRCs are put in place. To make it an unlevel playing field.
But he's right. Still, that is a dangerous attitude as much as I respect him. If someone of less competent leader tries to pull what he does, it would not work.

I feel that it is perfectly fine to challenge LKY the way they did - they were overall still respectful, even if they showed skepticism. If all they had shown was deference and/or patronized LKY, he would not have had the opportunity to give the answers he did and demonstrate what an exceptional thinker/leader he was.
I think the young people are just acting like Singaporean at the normal ground level, they are representations, I don't think they are acting themselves. They are supposed to attack LKY here to counter the many impressions and sayings out there. If they go soft, it's another "well, who dares to talk back to LKY?"
