    Thanks, Dani! I have just recently completed a weight loss of nearly 100 pounds. I am 64 y/o and changing the way I have eaten my whole life to a clean and healthy diet. Beets are one of many things I have rarely eaten in my life because I never learned how to prepare them. I am gradually changing how the entire family eats (I have 2 special needs adult children who still live with me and my hubby of 47 years) I am excited to purchase some beets this week and add them to our new repertoire of healthy foods!

      Beats are safe to cook in the aluminum foil. I looked it up. It’s approved by the FDA for high temperature cooking. It also said if any small traces were to be absorbed, it would pass through your system and end up in the toilet.

    Thank u for sharing how to prepare beets! I am a diabetic type 1 and I recently changed more of my eating habits along with my son of 26. I'm 56. We BOTH decided its time to get healthier in 2020, so we have changed happily discovering everything green along with ,turkey,fish,chicken, and now the beets lol! Actually to our surprise, they are NOT distasteful at all and are soo delicious! So THANK YOU, MAHALO for your beautiful calm,easy to prepare videos! God Bless you & Believing God for a great change in my A1C # and in 2020 to a healthier life ! Much Aloha

    Cool video, love beets. here is something to try that is surprisingly good. I moved from the US to Sweden and one of their main sandwiches is Swedish meatballs (Ikea) mixed with a mixture of chopped up beets mixed with some mayo to where it has a pink color put on a sub roll/baguette. first time i seen it i thought it sounds horrible but it works so well and is a whole new flavor that i never had.

    Nice vid! I think I will try roasting them on a grill this way. Probably open the foil when I have about 10-15 minutes left. I do this with a lot of different vegetables, but haven't tried it with beets yet. I have some in the garden that should be ready soon. :-) Much better than store bought, and I know they don't have any pesticides on them!

  • @kiwifruitkl

    Finally! This is a recipe that is simple enough to make! You just have to clean the beets, package the beets in aluminum foil, and put it in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes.
    As for the stain, I won't mind. Skin cells always regenerate.
    I once tried beets before when I bought one of those self-serve salad bowls at Whole Foods Market. The bowl cost me less than $20, but at least I got a little bit of each selection at the salad bar. That's the only time I bought something at the salad bar, because I know the salad bar is extremely overpriced. But then, that should be expected, because (1) people are paying for organic food, and (2) people are paying for the extra service of having ready-to-eat food.

  • @HealthPoliticsAndProtein

    I assume discarding the skin helps get rid of the extra aluminum from the foil, but then you lose the nutrition in the skin. Would wrapping the beets in parchment paper before the foil fix this? Other solutions?

    I just steamed my beets for 2 hours in a steamer but It's not as sweet as I thought it would be. I don't know whether or not I steamed it for too long but I guess I'm still going to get some nutrition out of it. I also love making beets and goat cheese salad if I can use a little bit of stevia. Oh, my gosh, eating organic never tasted any better. Love it so much. I'm vegan for life.

    Can you suggest an alternative to roasting without aluminum foil. It's been suggested to not cook with aluminum, due to studies that show causes of Altzheimer's disease.

    • @marthaadams8326
      @marthaadams8326 3 роки тому +1

      In this case, the aluminum foil is not leeching into the beets. They have their skins on and are peeled
      Actually aluminum collection in the brain seems to be connected to Alzheimers - BUT, some cook in aluminum pots all their lives and do not get it. It seems to be how your body deals with it that is important.
