Words can't describe how it feels to play Bowser's Inside Story. I remember my first time playing it, and it will always be one of my favorite Mario games ever. You play as Bowser, every area is so unique, the story is amazing, the jokes can be hilarious, and FAWFUL. My God, Fawful is one of the best Mario characters ever written, only being rivaled by Dimentio imo. If one has yet to play Bowser's Inside Story, You NEED to. You won't regret it. Btw, play the DS version. 3DS isn't as bad as many say it is but the DS one has a lot of charm.
Just finished replaying Bowsers Inside Story. Had to look through the entire attic to find the old game card. I loved the game as a kid but I struggled so much through it and never beat the final boss, most likely due to not knowing English and not understanding RPG mechanics. But this time i obliterated everything in the game and beat the final boss so quickly I was almost disappointed. Amazing game with so many childhood memories and the +10 years long rivalry between me and Dark Bowser finally concluded.
I haven't played many Mario games, but Superstar Saga is my favorite so far. I agree, more RPGs need a battle system like this. Now I'm playing BIS and it's truly amazing too, might even exceeds SS.

Mario Tennis N64 was actually the 2nd title, the 1st being Mario's Tennis on the Virtual Boy.
