That last note is a bel canto messa di voce -- sustained note with crescendo and diminuendo with no change in vibrato -- probably the most difficult thing to do vocally. I've accompanied many countertenors and have never heard it done better.

When I watch Dimash prepare himself for a performance, becoming serious, focused and looking inward - I always imagine he's "rehearsing" - he's hearing it all in his head before beginning. He makes it look effortless, but I suspect that is, in part, due to this kind of detail. Being ready at a level that doesn't even occur to most performers.

Ave Maria is a song of the Annunciation when an angel reveals to the Virgin Mary that she will bear the child of God. Dimash is the angel who brings us the news. The beautiful buildup of this piece conveys the increasing joy and realization of what is being announced. The final note ends the announcement and represents "so be it" or amen...God has spoken. This version was written by Igor Krutoy. It is somewhat based on the traditional Schubert piece but written for the voice of Dimash. Definitely worthy of Christmas Eve. :) Thank you for your reaction.

Great reaction. I just came across your channel and subscribed. This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever listened to, and only Dimash's voice could evoke such a profound emotional response in me. This rendition touches the very core of my soul. I have watched this performance numerous times already since it premiered and my eyes fill with tears the moment I hear the first note sung by Dimash's angelic voice.
This is a vocalise interpretation of Ave Maria that Igor Krutoy (on piano) composed for Dimash (not a cover), using only 4 original bars from the original composition. The last note Diamsh sings is known as "Messa di Voce", the singing of a gradual crescendo and decrescendo on a long sustained note. It is considered one of the most difficult vocal exercises and voice experts regard it as the ultimate test for any singer, a skill even the most experienced vocalists rarely ever master.
There are at least 10 other compositions titled "Ave Maria" and over 40 different renditions of these versions. The version most people are likely familiar with is Schubert's 1825 composition or the 1853 Gounod composition, based on a famous Bach keyboard prelude written 137 years earlier. He was forced to attribute most of his music to someone other than himself because any religious composition at that time, especially one invoking the Virgin Mary, was criminal under the communist dictatorship governing the Soviet Union.

3 REASONS THIS SONG WILL GO DOWN IN SINGING HISTORY:
1) he starts without any pitch cue and a cappella, meaning he has to depend on his perfect pitch to bring him into the song-if he misses, there’s no covering it up, so it’s super risky, and he does it effortlessly
2) he sings that whole song on one vowel (the “AHHHH" sound he's using), doesn’t close his mouth for the length of the performance, and never once touches or uses the microphone/mic stand for support
3) THAT LAST NOTE. Which is a 15 second Messa Di Voce (placing the voice); a very ADVANCED singing technique in Classical music. Basically you crescendo and decrecendo a note, with ONLY the volume changing-no pitch change, or vibrato change, or tone change, etc. (in fairness, he does lose the vibrato a bit on the decrescendo, but he gets it back-just a little something for Dimash to work on 😉)Then, he just lets it fade into the air...it’s one of the biggest vocal flexes I’ve ever seen in my life-A MASTERPIECE 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 🦌🇨🇦💜🇰🇿

I am 82 years old. I started taking singing lessons February 2019. I have jumped an octave and used my beautiful falsetto whenever I though it was appropriate. I came upon Dimash singing his version of Ave Maria. I tried singing along with him. To my astonishment I can and I sound very similar to him. I want to sing this without his background. What accompaniment or Karaoke can I use. I would put my original interpretation, but use his general approach. My brain worries about hitting F6, but I can.

In my opinion the last note is not a 'simple' :) crescendo. It is called 'Messa di voce' in italian. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messa_di_voce )
