Now that you've done this, I hope you're ready to receive a flood of anime recommendations on every video you ever upload for the rest of your living days. Anyways with that said, if you like comfort anime I highly recommend Ore Monogatari (My Love Story) ! it is very cute and wholesome and it made me cry 10/10 Also thank you for having me cameo to vouch for one of my faves!!!!!
welp at least he didn’t become these terminally online proship anime lolicon shits that scream "WOKE!!!!!" The moment a character have a sexuality, different race etc
That Neon Genesis analysis was truly on point. It captured the sheer awe, terror, and raw emotion that the series provided. I don't think any content creator could have put it more beautifully. Thank you Scattrilla, truly one of the reviews of all time.
@@matthewbrooks2633 the fact that they're not rated makes me think he genuinely doesnt know what to make of it. Which, fair, its a weird-ass show no matter where you stand on it
@Sarge Ward this comment was made by Mordor(one of Schaff editors) which he left on Schaff's letterboxd review on End of Eva describing the Schaff gangs experience on watching Evangelion: "This was the worst decisions we ever made We came in just sorta having high hopes cause we just said fuck it lets watch it cause we been watching intro memes of it But god...we weren't prepared of what we delved into The paused frames The bizzare breakdowns A plot and story more confusing then kingdom hearts We laughed...we cried...we screamed in agony...we lose our minds...we broke our selves But nothing was as more *nuts* then the end We felt...disturbed...uncomfortable...confused...desprate to end this rollarcoaster...and then by the *climax* of it all...we felt nothing All but regret...and this was the one of the mistakes we made ever...and it was worth a ride...bravo vince"
@@matthewbrooks2633 Yeah, from the looks of it, it just seemed like it wasn't really their thing. That, or again, they just didn't know what to make of it. Which I guess is fair enough. In all honesty, I feel they found it a very mixed experience. I love Eva, but it's definitely not going to be for everyone. I can't blame you if it just didn't work for you. I still think it's something everyone should at least see once.
Seems he generally doesnt like things that are too abstract or experimental. Also seems to be easily put off by anything sexual. So not surprised he doesnt like Eva. Its a far trek from his comfy vanilla realm of Pixar and Dreamworks
@@matthewbrooks2633 Did he happen to mention if they watched End of Eva or just left it at the show? Doesn't matter cus I can understand why you wouldn't want to. However, it would be very interesting and enlightening to better understand their feelings for the show.
Wait, wait, wait! Your name is James, and your girlfriend's name is Jess? Why have you never told us to prepare for trouble? I'm disappointed. Make that double!
Hearing Schaff talk about his gf and wanting to impress her and make her happy is legitimately so wholesome, this channel is a comfort for me and I’m so happy for you dude!
I love how Schaff acts like he’s betraying us as if his entire audience hadn’t consisted of weebs the entire time. You’d be surprised how much overlap there is between anime fans and theatre kids! x)
ODD TAXI Odd Taxi is fantastic. It's just 13 episodes, and it's more of a slow-burn crime/thriller drama with an incredible cast of characters and a mostly soothing, 2 a.m. vibes from all the conversations. It's a complete package that you watch slowly come together in such a tight way by the end, cannot recommend enough
The fact that he just glosses over NGE and calls it funny pengiun show is honesty the best thing he could have done knowing how insane the show actually is Also ik this is a really late comment but I HEAVILY recommended you watch Steins;Gate It shifted my perspective on anime entirely and is imo one of the best shows I have ever watched
@@themegatonmenace1224 He did, one of his editors posted a comment on his Letterboxd review of End of Eva, saying how the show was a traumatizing experience for them.
Well, it’s been said that Studio Ghibli is the “gateway drug” to anime. Schaff’s development from reviewing all of Studio Ghibli’s films to branching out and enjoying other anime within the span of a year is proof of that assertion. 😄
@@noturboi909 You sound like the people from The Oscars, lol. "AnImAtIoN iS a GeNrE, NoT a MeDiUm ThAt CaN bE uSeD tO sHoW vArIoUs WaYs Of StOrYtElLiNg To DiFfErEnT dEmOgRaPhIcS."
Saw someone else mention this and I wanna bring it up to - Death Parade is SO GOOD. It's a psychological series with plenty of deep morality discussions and existential dread as it covers the ever present topic of "what happens when we die?". The story takes place at a bar that runs several arcade-esque games that the visitors - who have recently died but do not initially remember this - are asked to participate in to show a judgement of their True Character, and when the game is over they are sent to either to Purgatory or Reincarnation. It's a short series that's mostly episodic but with a bigger character driven story intertwined between, and several moments from the story and characters were genuinely heartbreaking. A really good show to watch in one full sitting and then stare at a wall once it's done as you struggle to process all of your feelings.
@@calebpeters3378 Considering he called his owlhouse S3 video "end of owlangelion" (haven't watched yet) I think it's something he felt he couldn't say without a whole full-fat video on it. While Eva is slightly polarizing, (my take is that the division is between people who need it, and people who don't need it) it usually hits hard for those who take it in. It would certainly fit his MO.
Princess Tutu! It’s INCREDIBLE. One of the best dark magical girl shows ever. The characters are multifaceted and develop and change as the show progresses, the shows lore is about the characters not changing and reliving a tragedy, it feels like an incredible win just to watch them change and make their own stories. It’s got a big brothers Grimdark fantasy vibe even though it’s called Princess Tutu and it’s about ballet lol PLEASE give it a chance it deserves so much more attention
Honestly I'm really really curious what Schaff would think about the Ghost Stories dub, imo the funniest anime I've ever seen and a one of a kind black comedy the likes of which we will never see again. The dub fundamentally changes the show so much that it's an entirely different genre than the sub and history behind its creation is equally fascinating.
Madoka Magica is such a wholesome magical girl show that plays really well with the already great structure of the genre, also has amazing cast and it’s an anime original so no manga knowledge needed
Now that Attack on titan is over, I would definitely recommend you and everyone reading this to watch it. It's so good and the animation is like nothing I've seen before. The story is insanely good and there is little to no fan service. You probably wouldn't notice it and it won't bother you. This made me cry and feel so much emotions and I would rewatch it as soon as I can. Another anime that i would recommend you watch is cardcaptor sakura. It might seem like a regular show about a magical girl and all that but it's really really good and very emotional at times.
AOT's animation is actually fairly bad across the board, but it has moments of perfect 10/10 quality. Freiren is a show that has good animation, or Madoka Magica, or Eizouken.
You know the thing about the episodic nature of Cowboy Bebop is that it mimics the overall life of a bounty hunter, they never have just one goal, they are always moving to a new objective once the last is completed, so the episodes barely connecting to each other fits really well.
Some recommendations: Violet Evergarden - Beautifully animated show about a soldier turned ghostwriter during a time where letters are the primary form of long distance communication. Also has some episodes that hit you in the feels. Revolutionary Girl Utena - A very surreal take on the magical girl genre. Similar vibes to Revue Starlight in my opinion, even down to the lesbian undertones. Attack on Titan - Everyone's heard of this show and for a good reason. It has probably one of the most complex intertwining stories in all media, and only gets better the further you go. Like it's unbelievable how stuff in season 1 will foreshadow stuff 80 episodes later. Made in Abyss - A simple tale of 2 children adventuring into the depths of an ancient abyss. Some of the strongest world building in anime, and full of eldritch horrors. It also has some of the grayest of morally gray characters. EDIT: Note that Made in Abyss has a movie that takes place between season 1 & 2. Do not skip it as it's part of the overarching story.
I can't stretch enough how much I'd recommend "Odd Taxi"! It's pretty short and sweet, the story imo is great, and the cast is super endearing! Besides that, I'd also really recommended "Megalobox". Season 1 was good, but for me personally, season 2, titled "Nomad", really blows it out of the park. Both shows are super underrated imo, and I'd love for more people to check them out!
I loved Oddtaxi... right until the final episode. I've never had a finale of a series upend my opinion on it that much. It felt like an insult to its target audience.
If you do another of these you should definitely watch The Promised Neverland (season 1 only please only season 1. season 2 does not exist) it's about a group of kids who discover the dark truth surrounding their orphanage and their attempts at escape. The art style is a bit off-putting at first but you get used to it quick enough and the suspense in this show is seriously insane
Season one is easily one of my top 3 anime, season 2 was so disappointing I was so upset that they had the chance to make something great like season one but ruined it completely
Season two was about the value of life, I understand why some people would think its not as good as season one (cuz its not) but its not completely terrible, the writers just changed genres after season one
@@watermelon3266the problem with season 2 is that they completely deviate from the manga and then rush the ending. They basically skipped all the good parts
Whenever I think about Saiki K I think of a person on tiktok who claimed to try and shift to that universe and Saiki kicked her out by just giving her a black screen with "No" and Ironically I think that could actually happen
Since I haven't seen many comments recommending it, I'll just put this recommendation here: Hunter x Hunter :D I'd say overall, it's a show that offers fleshed-out characters, complex story arcs, great worldbuilding, and a lot of compelling themes in later arcs. The show is pretty long, so you have to be into it. Thankfully it's pretty easy to get into. It took me the first 4/5 episodes and then I was sold and basically binged it in a week. The first arc, which is around 20 episodes long, revolves around the main characters taking part in the Hunter Exam, and is a really good jump start into getting to know the main characters and the way the fantasy world of hxh works, but the story really takes off in later seasons/arcs. Most of all, I really enjoy the character dynamics of the main characters, especially the main duo Gon and Killua. It's very wholesome and there are so many great moments between all of the cast. Because it's a longer show, there are times when it's a little on the slow side in later seasons, but yeah... I'd say, if you have the time, definitely check it out :) It's definitely one of my favourite anime of all time.
Seen as my favorite anime of all time is Neon Genesis Evangelion, I was very pleased to here your very thorough and insightful take on the show. I am very glad to see someone who also deeply understands and appreciates the complex themes of of one of my favorite shows. Thank you...
Seems he generally doesnt like things that are too abstract or experimental So not surprised he doesnt like Eva. Its a far trek from the safe corporate realm of Pixar and Dreamworks
Ashamed you’ve never heard of Hunter X Hunter. It’s a bit long but has an incredible overarching story that ultimately builds up to an incredible finale. Has great action and great characters and the style is amazing
True hxh is incredible. Hunter x hunter for me is peak fiction. Every character is so unique and nen is one the most thought out abilities I seen in any anime. Also, it worldbuilding is so good it like one piece and full metal alchemist brotherhood. I really hope James watches hxh since it very similar to full metal alchemist brotherhood.
I literally came back to this video to comment about my fav anime which I believe he would enjoy, Then I see I already commented about HxH a year ago 😭. HxH is literally one of the best anime and only reason it's not at the top rn because of the unfortunate Hiatus, Togashi has no bounds for imagination, creativity and making intriguing characters.
when it comes to anime I honestly can't recommend Blue Period enough. It is an incredible series that disects being an artist in such a beautiful way. While it talks about the school side of things, getting into university, the technical side of things etc. a lot, it doesn't feel like a lecture or just an excuse to talk about those things because of all the great characters involved. There's a lot I could say about the plot and all, but to keep it short I just want to say it's a great show that i wholeheartedly recommend and can't get enough of.
I highly recommend Steins;Gate. It’s a story about a “mad scientist” and his friends who accidentally learns how to time travel using a microwave. It’s funny, sad, and amazing all around. People say the first 12 episodes are boring but I disagree, those first episodes really give you insight into the characters and helps you care about them. Would highly recommend it and the sequel Steins;Gate 0
Ranking of Kings is an absolute gem. The relationship between an adorable baby boy prince and his little shadow man was such a joy to experience. While also providing well executed mystery behind the actions/motivations of certain characters make the show really engaging throughout. I truly think it's an incredible anime that has been cemented as my favourite despite some missteps near the end.
the anime was a solid 8-9/10 until the ending, which screeched it all the way to a 6 for me. Ignoring those few plot points it would be a solid 8 for me.
Love how everyone who watches full metal alchemist just goes "Yeah! It's good!" because it is. Like this is the one thing the anime comunity agrees on its really funny
Honestly, I would recommend Cells At Work, because it's actually an educational anime that is about cells acting like people, while still doing their jobs. It actually balances gore and light hearted moments in the normal version, but there is also a code black version, which is way darker, but still educational.
1. Knowing that he did it for his gf and falling in love with it with her makes the entire video so freaking wholesome like I can imagine him and his girlfriend having these convos talking about these shows. 2. I love that you can just play a 5-second Bojack clip to educate your audience on asexual relationships
Truly, hats off for the Evangelion review. The depth you went into and the clear passion you have for the work genuinely brought me to tears. I had to stop the video because I was balling my eyes out. Thank you so much JSchlaff, you have changed my life forever
I love recommending FMA: Brotherhood to friends who have never seen anime. I hype it to high heaven, and then after they're done watching they're always like "Wtf man, why didn't you tell me it was THAT good?!?"
I'm not sure you've watched it before but if you haven't I highly recommend violet evergarden. It's my absolute favourite anime due to it's mature themes and beautiful animation style. This anime has made me cry so hard and I specifically remember crying at 2am while watching it. It's such a beautiful story with an unconventional storyboard as it isn't necessarily a linear progression between episodes. I also adore it due to the different approach that the anime took from the novel on its perspective of violet. I highly recommend reading the novel its based on to gain a further appreciation and understanding of violet however take note that both the anime and novel have graphic violence with the novel being even more explicit and gruesome. However, I believe that the story's message comes across even further with its mature themes and I absolutely adore this anime and could talk forever about it.
I haven't finished this anime yet but violet evergarden is totally something he should watch. Its beautiful, amazing and got me attached to a few characters. I can't wait to finish this and sob in the middle of the night lol.
omg episode 10 absolutely destroyed me for no reason whatsoever first episode in violet evergarden that made me cry just with its score alone such an incredible episode
Erased and Violet Evergarden are both fairly short and definitely worth watching! Violet does have a movie as well that ties up the story nicely (and made me cry like a baby).
I will never get tired of hearing new viewers go on about how great FMA: Brotherhood is. Seriously, one of my favorite pieces of media ever. I'm only sad I can't watch it for the first time again, because the plot was just so spectacular and blew me away the first time I watched it. Still revisit it every few years.
Oh man, it's one of my all time favourites too. When I first got into FMA, the manga was still ongoing, and I can just remember being on the edge of my seat during the last few chapters, and how emotional the ending was. When they announced they were making FMAB, my excitement was through the roof, and when it came out it was everything I had hoped for as a manga fan. I was just a kid at the time, but even now as an adult, I still consider it one of the best series I've ever watched.
@@irenamaria8859 oh man, that's insane! I wasn't aware that the manga was different from the anime until fmab was announced, so I was spared having to wait for the books to finish. I think I would have gone insane waiting for those last few to be released! man that would have been an awful cliffhanger to wait on
I recommend Banana Fish because it has everything I like in a show: a plot, drama, great characters, Ash Lynx, and a beautiful romance/connection between two characters that transcend the physical... My only complaint is that the manga is better and they should have stuck with the 80's setting because it works better than the late 2010's in terms of the technology. And also I like to see people's reactions about the end of the show. I also recommend Natsume Yuujinchou, I think you would like it better considering your taste (but is a long one)
Hunter X Hunter is a slow burn, but it’s definitely one of the strongest character studies I’ve ever seen. The characters are handled very deliberately and they grow in nuance as the series progresses, and the way it depicts themes such as trauma and the self-destructive nature of revenge is heartbreaking and mature. It serves as a deconstruction of the shonen genre, and it’s an absolutely stunning story with a deceptively simple first couple arcs that while it does grow darker it never sacrifices the beating heart at the core of its story, and I think you’d love it a whole lot.
@@MILDMONSTER1234 yeah it introduces certain tropes repeatedly and then intentionally subverts them. I guess you could argue that it isn’t the main appeal of the series and isn’t worth talking about as much as the themes and characters on their own, but it’s personally one of my favorite elements of the story.
Parasyte is an amazing show, it’s relatively short at only 24 episodes and has some positively amazing psychological horror aspects that ultimately builds into something truly tragic.
The Evangelion part was quite funny. But I would still be interested in a proper review, since the series has received quite a mixed reception. For me personally the best series of all time, even if I understand everyone who says that they don't like the series. (Sorry for the Bad English I come from Germany)📽
I genuenly Gasped in shock when he just continued along without fruther review, like, I waited a cople of seconds for him to go back and say, ok, no, now seriously guys, Neon Genesis Evangelion... but no. Persona 4 reviews it was... I felt a little bit sad about that.
I think you'll really enjoy Bocchi the Rock. The humor hit similar beats to Kaguya for me, and it is so endearing from a character standpoint! The main character, Bocchi, has social anxiety like Komi, and she has a lot of the charm Komi has, if not more. It's also a great story about becoming an artist (in this case, a guitar player for a band). As someone who also has Whisper of the Heart as one of my top 3 Ghibli movies, I can say it also touched my little artist heart. Give it a go! It's the Anime of its Season for me :)
i really can’t recommend vinland saga enough, it perfectly encapsulates my taste in anime as it’s dark, gritty, and character focused. i loved season one so much that i just had to read the manga and needless to say season two will easily be a 11/10 if they properly adapt it. the vinland saga manga is absolute perfection
Surprised you didn’t watch Attack on Titan! It’s definitely an iconic show and it starts off way different to how it is now in the present, but the road to get there is way worth it. Plus who can forget that soundtrack and opening? Its story isn’t perfect, but I think it’s still a must-watch even just to experience it and its characters, especially since the last season is just around the corner.
He probably will at some point, most of these series has very few episodes and seasons whereas now AoT is a fairly long and complex story, you need to take your time to really appreciate it and it has many common flaws for that kind of anime at the very beginning to season 2. That is alongside a couple of very shallow episodes in the second half of the first season. I guess they had to reach a certain length but having an episode have the content of one single chapter just isn’t enough especially in that point of the story where they aimlessly in circles run around with the horses while being attacked. (And considering they had to deal with just one target and they had no particular disadvantage as well as Levi right there it was honestly ridiculous to use a complex strategy considering what he’s capable of, in fact he eventually save the situation all by himself).
@@yesensei oh damn lol i started the series thinking it’s finished a month ago and here i am speeding through the final season thinking it’s all out, im even hyped for it then
The Great Pretender on Netflix is one of the most underrated anime ever. With a super fun and compelling story of professional scammers, and constant plot twists that surprise you and the main character continuously, this show really keeps you on it's toes. It has a really nice diverse cast, and is set internationally, with each case being in a different country. I must also praise the very unique but beautiful art style, with cow boy beebop vibes in the editing and music choices! I can definitely recommend The Promised Neverland- season one is absolutely amazing, the suspense of the slow buildup was so good and the timing of information being revealed was perfect imo. Super likable characters and genuinely chilling moments made me fall in love with this show. The mix of the prison break trope and the cult like aspects of the setting really ticked all my boxes. Season one works very well as a standalone (I didn't watch season 2 and heard bad stuff about it but the manga is really good!) I'm suprised you haven't watched Madoka Magica, I really love the weird, horror elements and the world building in this show. The tragedy of it all is so good, but it's not made to make you feel overly depressed. The show really benefits of its shortness and if you want more you can check out the movies. I beautiful classic in my opinion! My personal fave is Hunter x Hunter, I love the characters and dynamics, the world building is very fun and interesting, especially later on. It's just very enjoyable and the story is super well thought out. There are no filler episodes which is *chef's kiss* . A lot of people find the chimera ant arc tedious and dragged out ( I thought the buildup was worth it) so you could technically stop watching after the greed island arc. I do think the anime is a masterpiece!
I highly recommend Code Geass! It's from the mid-2000s and does have a few of the dated tropes common during that era, but it has a wonderfully rich setting and an incredibly compelling protagonist.
If you're really into art narratives, I'd really recommend Blue Period. It's about a high school student who doesn't really know what he wants in life until he experiences someone understanding him through a one-off painting he made for art class. This pushes him into wanting to become an artist and the rest of the anime following his personal and external struggles to become a successful artist.
Some anime that I cannot recommend enough are Violet Evergarden, Hunter X Hunter and Mushishi. They’re some of the most detailed and beautifully horrifying yet cozy anime’s I’ve ever seen. They’re a must watch. Honorable mentions include: Card-captor Sakura, Toilet Bound Hanako kun, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
Yeah I was thinking CCS, hadn’t seen anyone else mention it. It’s longer and old but seriously one of the sweetest, most loveable shows I’ve ever seen.
Honestly, it still confuses me. I mean, I've seen people dislike Eva. That would be far less surprising than him just making a one line Penpen joke and not making any follow up video where he actually states his opinion on it.
@@themegatonmenace1224 he stated outright he only disliked fate apocrypha and my dressup darling, things dont have to be in the "top 10 animes u like" for you to like it
I think you should watch some of KyoAni’s stuff, especially “Silent Voice” and perhaps “Your Name” too. The stuff they produce are really emotionally compelling and the fact that they make you feel more attached to their characters compared to a lot of other animes can do in their entire run time, *in 2 hours btw*,is a testament to how good their movies are. It’s a Must Watch in my opinion!
^^ I watched Silent Voice at night when I was young and living with my parents, had to hide in my closet to finish it because I was sobbing towards the end xD
Steinsgate is such a shout I recon it's suit his tastes so well between the wholesome interactions of the first half and heartwrenching drama of the second
I've yet to finish Death Parade, but the one thing I remember is the sheer tonal whiplash involved. Show: Dark as heck at every turn. Opening: *WOOO, PARTY TIME WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!*
I highly highly suggest you watch hunter x hunter, it has such a thoughtfully written story and world and I’ve never been so invested in a group of fictional characters before. Also if you’re a fan of cowboy bebop, I recommend samurai champloo and space dandy as they’re from the same creators and it shows. They all have that really charming music-based aesthetic to them
YES YES YES!!! HunterxHunter has my heart. It’s my personal favorite anime of all time and honestly I may be biased since it was the first I actually finished, second I ever watched. The Chimera Ant arc made me sob by the end and I cannot give a more glowing review. There was never a moment when I felt bored by the story and I have rewatched it at least 7 times. I’m so excited for the manga to return and I’m hoping the anime will make a comeback too
Gonna hijack this a little bit to plug in Bebop's movie: Knockin on Heaven's Door. It's basically everything Shaff wanted from the show with a more plot focused multiparter episode. Considered the peak of Bebop
MY hot take is that Hunter X Hunter is thoroughly mid until the Chimera Ant arc, which then proceeds to develop into one of the best arcs in all of anime history
Honestly expected you to watch Violet Evergarden. If I were to describe it, it's really like a novel turned into animation. It's about writing letters and finding meaning in life, when you get separated from what gave your life worth (at least, what you think gave your life worth).
I’m so glad you talked about Kotaro lives alone! I don’t see many people talk about it and it’s super underrated. I finished the show not to long ago and I think it’s a beautiful show that showcases different forms of trauma/abuse and the signs and results of that abuse. The show really deserves to be talked about more.
My parents and I watched it and we talked about how sad it was like there were cute moments but a lot of the show was really depressing just because of the circumstances. I liked it a lot though
Seeing Shaff finally getting to talk about evangelion made me so overfilled with joy, as i was curious as to what he thinks about this clasic anime, by many regarded as a must watch for any experienced anime fan, with unforgetable characters and an extremely convoluted story, that yet still manages to stay captivating. And then he said "yeah there is a penquin in this anime- anyway" And i mean, to be fair, with his limited screen time Penpen is still the best character in the show, but like, man
Based on the fact that it wasn’t in his don’t like list or top 10, I’m guessing he just didn’t know what to think of it and figured the safest bet was just to meme it.
@@thevioletbee5879 Yeah, I mean, it's hard to really evaluate Evangelion after the first watch, especially since he didn't mention he watching the movies Who knows, maybe we'll get an Evangelion retrospective when he makes up his mind maybe parhaps one day who knows (also, a lot of people hated Evangelion on the first viewing so there's that)
@@woodywas4549 Again, since he didn’t put it among the ones he hated, so I doubt he did. But Evangelion has a lot of stuff that can drive people away. Budgetary or time issues, characters that are objectively all terrible people (give or take Rei), a weird split ending (the film version of which has some of the absolute worst behavior from there characters), and some good ol’ questionable anime bullshit. I absolutely understand people who don’t get, or even just straight up don’t like it. I’m just very much not one of those people.
Made in Abyss and Vinland Saga is my recommendation if you're going into adventure. These two has some of the best adventure stories followed up by some greatest world building and characters. I do note, however, that these 2 are pretty gruesome at some point, considering your preferences over the top 10 anime
Nice picks. In my opinion Made in abyss shines because of it world-building and score(the music). It world building is so captivating and interesting and the music is so dark and calming which makes it perfect for this show. Viland saga is just amazing, the character feel so real and you can’t get enough of fights.
I love the world building in Made in Abyss, but you can’t really recommend it without the massive caveat of the authors… inclinations towards children, because it’s really blatant.
People just don’t give it a chance because of the stigma put on it. Once they do, they always love it and realize the story lines are incredible. The craziest thing about you loving anime from just these 32 is that you haven’t even watched many of the best ones out there. I’m gonna guess because they are super long, but they are long because they are that good and the stories require it.
@@griphusgriphus5530 can I take a guess at the genres you might’ve watched. Isekai, harem, and not a genre but those magic high school anime with the black haired basic protag Because yeah those are more or less the same. Haven’t watched much harem myself outside of my next life as a villainess but I heard a lot of them are well…bad
You really said everything you needed to say about Evangelion. Pen Pen is truly the best thing of the entire series, nay, of every series ever made. He's a character so profound, so intellectually complex that you discover something new about him at every rewatch. Words cannot simply explain the joy I felt only seeing our lord and saviour on the screen.
"Monthly Girl Nozaki Kun" showcases my favorite ace king just doing what he loves, making wholesome romance manga and supporting his friends while also roping a lot of them into helping him with his manga. "My Love Story" is all about the best of himbos living his best life, respecting others, and healthily acnologing his own feelings without forcing them on others.
Some anime recommendations (I'm sure there are repeats here, but here goes): Princess Tutu: On the surface it's an anime about fairy tales, as told through ballet, but the way it uses those established and well-known stories to subvert expectations and tell a unique story of its own is truly great, and I think well worth the watch. The main character is so earnest and endearing, and some of the other characters develop beyond their initial first impressions to be surprisingly sympathetic as well. Princess Jellyfish: This show is relatively short, only 11 episodes, but it's one that has stayed with me because of the two main characters and the relationship that develops between them, and how it's easier sometimes to see the beauty in someone else than it is to see it in yourself. Revolutionary Girl Utena: This is one of those shows that had an influence on those that followed, especially in the magical girl genre. The story itself is deceptively simple, but as it goes on it becomes clear that it's about more than what appears on the surface. I don't know that it's one of my favorites, but it's one that has stayed with me long after watching it. Some of the content/subject matter can be uncomfortable for some viewers, so I do recommend checking for possible content warnings before watching, although most of it is conveyed through subtext rather than being overtly explicit. Fullmetal Alchemist (2003): Okay, for as AMAZING as FMA:B is (and it truly is an incredible show), I saw the original FMA as it aired on [adult swim] and it was the show that made me realize how beautiful and moving anime could be (that and my next rec). It follows the manga for the beginning, but as it was airing while the manga was still being written, the show had to either create their own ending, or make up filler until it had more manga canon to continue. They made their own ending, which was a different enough direction that once the manga did end, it was worth going back and making FMA:B. I saw 2003 first, before I ever read the manga, so I have a lot of love for the series, and I think it would be interesting to hear your take on it, watching it in the opposite order. Wolf's Rain: I also watched this when it aired on [adult swim] and didn't know that animation could be this gorgeous until I saw this show. It has a unique concept about a pack of wolves who are able to hide within human society, some of whom don't even realize what they are until they meet each other and discover their true nature. I love the music, I think it's so beautiful and moving, and I think it has a lot of interesting things to say through the characters and the story it tells. Could go on recommending more but I'll stop here, lol. (Although I do recommend Polar Bear's Cafe for lighthearted slice-of-life viewing. It has no plot, but I find the characters and their interactions endearing and funny. My favorite stories are the ones featuring Grizzly and Polar Bear).
Apart from the ending which I feel mixed about I genuinely love fma 2003 it's such a good story that took the plot in a really interesting direction and I'd say the final act managed to use every character (except Armstrong) to their fullest extent
Haikyuu!! Is a MUST. Honestly the show has such a special place in my heart. Even though it's a sports anime it's really so much more than that. With a very big cast of likable characters and really fun and heartwarming dynamics, amazing ost and animation, it's very engaging. The comedy is just great imo and honestly the show was really emotional at times. My favorite part is definitely the relationship between the two main characters Hinata and Kageyama, their dynamic is so fun and their journey (especially in the manga it's pretty gay imo) is very special and heartwarming. I'm pretty sure the show will come out with two movies next year to finish the manga story so that's a plus to finish it whole!
You did this way better than I did. I really hope he sees this it's a genuinely great show. Second warning for fanservice/boys being gross though. Not horribly so, just it does exist may as well mention it.
A pretty short anime I can't recommend enough is Little Witch Academia. It's about a girl who idolizes a witch she saw perform when she was a child, who enrolls to the same magic school she did. It's a simple premise, but they do a good amount with it and I really enjoy it. Welcome To Demon School Iruma-Kun is another great one. It's about a kid named Iruma who gets sold to a demon by his parents, except it turns out the demon bought him because he needed a grandson to brag about to his friends. It's a really wholesome watch, but it also has some very exciting and epic moments, and of course tons of comedy. Oh, and have you considered watching One Piec-
Its from the Kill la Kill people. They only do underrated anime... which are a Blast. I love them. But yeah next to Kill la Kill and Bna its the weakest one.
An anime that I loved from start to finish that fits your taste is “ranking of kings” NO it’s not a family friendly anime to watch just because it has light hearted animation. It has some deep level shit with the story that u have to see for yourself. It also has great lovable characters littered all across the show. Give it a try and I promise you will not be disappointed one bit
@@dorkknight7225 eh, maybe so... this I agree with a little, but it's still worth the watch. I think it just has so many strong elements in it that it was bound to run out of it's ability to show itself up eventually, but I don't even mind that it didn't really stick the landing. it seems like it's setting up for a second season, and I'm willing to give it a shot.
A Man and His Cat is such a sweet manga and absolutely a must read for anyone who loves cats! I started reading it some months after saying goodbye to my family cat, and it had me in tears, full-on ugly crying because it was so sweet and wholesome and touching. That's actually how I realized I was ready to adopt a cat again, so I wouldn't have my two cats now without that manga.
Assassination Classroom means so much to me, I tear up at the thought of the show. It’s been my favorite show for 3 years now, and I think it will stay that way for a while…
same oh my god, my sister spoiled the show for me when i was on the second to last season, so when i got to the last i started to full on cry at the intro, it was so sad 😢
I'd recommend watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It's wildly known as one of the shows that started so many tropes in anime. The first part is a bit hard to get through, but beyond that is a story filled with ridiculous and creative moments and some great characters (especially part 4 onward).
He made a video on the channel that's just his friend talking about how much he loves JoJo's. Maybe he'll watch it himself in the future. Also, part 1 is good IMO.
@@anonymouslucario285 I wouldn't say painful at all, but it definitely feels rather cliche and basic compared to the other parts. Definitely the most shallow, especially in terms of the protagonist.
One anime I would absolutely recommend is Land of the Lustrous. The interesting aspect of the show is that it's almost entirely 3D, but it makes it work so incredibly well!
If you liked cowboy bebop's general feel but want something with plot driven structure, I'd recommend Samurai Champloo, Carole & Tuesday and Michiko to Hatchin. Truly amazing shows
Just wanna point out for Fruits Basket that even though the translation often refers to the Sohmas as a "family" or that all Zodiac members are "cousins" it's really a clan, and cousins is the easiest thing to call them. As you might recall, the Sohmas live in a compound, and they have the inner and outer families. There's literally hundreds of people. Everybody is so distantly related, that there's no real issue with Kagura having a crush on Kyo. Even though she's annoying. Haha.
Mob Psycho 100 was one of those shows that I had seen everywhere in some way, shape, or form and hadn't just gotten around to watching until recently and I'm so glad I did. It is so charming in every way, from the action to the slice of life to the humor (which, in my opinion, Reigen carries btw). It's just such a nice watch with such easy-to-love characters. It quickly became one of my favorites and I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet to watch.
Here are some of my recommendations Schaff: - Yuru Camp - A Place Further than the Universe - Samurai Champloo - Hunter x Hunter - Jujutsu Kaisen - Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure - Bungou Stray Dogs - Bocchi the Rock - Frieren: Journeys End
Honestly, I’m glad to hear you liked a lot of my favorites, like Mob Psycho 100, Cowboy Bebop, Tatami Galaxy and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I was expecting you to say more about my personal favorite, Neon Genesis Evangelion, but I found the penguin joke funny, and plenty of people have said more. It’s one of those anime you either love or hate, and I’m on the side that loves it.
I recommend you watch Death Parade. It’s a shorter anime about these arbiters of death who determine whether the newly deceased should be reincarnated or cast into the void. It is pretty episodic which I also do not prefer, but I found the different episodes extremely compelling, and there is an overarching plot that comes along slowly.
Was originally coming to the comments to also give a strong recommendation to Death Parade; it's one of the earliest anime my girlfriend sat me down to watch and it has some truly stellar animation and some really solid core characters in spite of the episodic format. Plus the overarching plot that reveals itself as it goes is a pretty compelling one.
I got to watch Haikyuu while I was in high school and lemme tell you it hits you hard in the feels, especially for those who are about to graduate and go on to the next sections of their lives. While it’s not perfect, it does do a really good job at showing believable teenagers and the underlying terror that people feel when trying to figure out what comes next and realizing what your passions are in life. Another that I highly recommend is Violet Evergarden, it’s a short and immensely sweet show that deals with the emotions of the people who stayed home during war and the survivor’s guilt of the soldiers who came back alive and how complex love and sorrow and joy can be when you’ve lost someone close to you.
If you make a part 2 of this, I would recommend Bungou Stray Dogs! Almost all of the characters are named after famous authors and it’s really interesting to see how they’re adapted into the series.
I know the fandom is obnoxiously insane, but JoJos Bizarre Adventure is a really good anime that juggles various genres and never gets boring. It's a great mix of intensity, humor, and emotional damage.
Nichijou is a slice of life anime that follows 3 school girls while also following a household with an 8 year old professor and a teenage girl robot. If you like the humor in Love is War, I would totally recommend this show. It’s humor and high intense absurdity to every scene makes this a thrill to watch! Like this show is so damn funny
I still can't get over how Nichijou characters are like... Copies of the Azumanga Daioh characters >~>" but it just slammed a loooot more comedy and quirky randomness on top of it.
Dorohedoro is a beautifully animated show with a fascinating plot, amazing characters, and a very fun amount of violence. It's funny, strangely heartwarming, and once again stunning to watch.
Highly recommend Golden Kamuy, it is a complete underrated masterpiece. Almost everyone in the cast is likable and have their own motivations and growth.
Assassination Classroom inspired me to pursue a teaching career. I really thought I could be the next Koro-sensei ngl. I'm currently teaching in high school and while the paperworks are super fucking stressful, I did realize that I do love to teach. I just don't know if I was able to do it like Koro-sensei, but I hope to improve on the way I teach my kids. I genuinely wanted my kids to learn a lot from me as I intend to learn from them.
It's crazy to hear Schaff talk about kaguya and say its one of his favorite things while being a manga reader and knowing that all of the stuff he just watched is actually the weaker half of the manga's story and it still gets exponentially better from here.
I just can't believe the manga finished today, now what do I do after my favourite manga of all time is done (there's gonna be a couple spin offs supposedly to finish up some stories according to aka but it won't be the same)
"March Comes in like A Lion" is phenomenal and, based on your top 10, a show that I think you'd greatly enjoy. It has got a wonderful mix of comfy and drama while exploring loneliness, family, and the pressure to succeed. It's one of the first titles I ask someone if they've seen when anime comes up and I hope anyone else reading this comment will give it a try if they haven't already.
Oh my fucking God yes!i never hear anyone talk about it but absolutely phenomenal and gorgeous GORGEOUS animation. I absolutely love this anime so much ❤️❤️❤️
I hated March Comes in like a Lion when I first watched it, mainly because it had me tearing up literally every episode. It's a good show, don't get me wrong, but it's emotional af.
cowboy bebop is perfect i didn’t understand it the first time i watched it but once you realize it’s incredible the idea is all of their stories are over they’re literally floating through space with nothing to do they just have to go on their episodic journeys and try to move in while some of them can other characters can’t it’s such a real beautiful idea of a show
If you plan on reading more manga, I’d recommend blue period. It has really good art and such a good story. The struggles the Mc goes through and his way of tackling it is impactful to how he is. I would say it’s like Keep you hands of Eizouken, but more story driven and more “real”. It’s been my favorite series since I first read it, and I suggest anyone else to read it if they find it hard the path they want to walk.
Because you liked Death Note I would highly recommend Monster (2004), I think it is genuinely the best piece of media I have ever seen, with a similar cat and mouse chase. I don’t want to spoil anything because going into it knowing nothing is a whole other experience!!
@@GoodMorningUSA1 It's a slowburn psycho drama. The elongated game of chess and the pawns in it are the real appeal, not constant thrills and payoff. It's not for everyone but it's methodical as hell and absolutely brilliant if you can enjoy the time it's willing to take
@@GoodMorningUSA1 clips only really work for comedic or action type shows. Monster has so many aspects to it that clips can't capture the intrigue of the show. I fully recommend it if you're in the mindset for a longer dark anime
Princess Tutu is one of my favorites. It takes a few episodes to reveal its hand, but essentially a fairy tale prince with a shattered heart escapes his story book into the real world at a dance academy. A duck (quite literal) feels bad for the prince and is willing to do anything to help him. Thus the duck agrees to take on the tragic fairy tale role of 'Princess Tutu' who heals the prince's heart but can never speak her love else she disappears. It's about 20 or so episodes and has a lot of fun playing around with different fairy tales and ballet themes. Also the four main characters have fantastic development through the series. You can really understand all their motivations and want the best for them.
i’m glad you liked so many of these! based on what you said you liked, i’d recommend Violet Evergarden and The Ancient Magus’s bride; they’re both somewhere between FMAB and Fruits Basket in terms of fantasy and characters, with that cozy feeling the wrap it all up together.
If you liked the creative manga development aspect of "keep your hands of Eizouken" you might LOVE "Bakuman". Its from the creators of Death Note, but focuses completely different on two HS students who want to become Mangaka (loosely based on their own lives). It is a really interesting behind the scenes look of weekly manga writing / publishing and has a great extended cast as well!
I really think you'll enjoy Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It avoids a lot of the traditional anime tropes, and despite the memes is one of the funniest action anime out there imo. It has such an iconic cast of characters and cool worldbuilding too.
I love how araki doesn't even follow his own rules and you never know wtf wacky thing is going to happen next. Definitely worth the watch and I'm happy to see someone else recommended it!
@@therealcoleycraft Yah, I really like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure as well, but unfortunately, the memes cringiness is at the levels of GoAnimate, FNaF, Fortnight, and Among Us.
I love Jojo's as well but people also call it gay when like its not that not all the time when its funny, sad, exciting, and has the best bromances in history.
Happy you had a good time with anime as a new fan. Here's my contribution to the rec list, in order of how much I think you'll enjoy them: - Bocchi the Rock: I'd be shocked if you didn't like this, it's right up your alley with the other shows you've enjoyed. It's about a socially anxious girl who really wants to be in a band but is too shy to ever start one. It's very wholesome, surprisingly emotional and the animation is super creative with it's depictions of the character's mental states. - Vinland Saga: All around great series. Season 1 is an action series with fantastic animation and great supporting characters. The main character is one of the less interesting characters here, but that's more a testament to how well developed the other characters are. Season 2 is where it really becomes great since the series takes a complete tonal shift and becomes entirely character focused, exploring the protaganist and the fallout of season 1. It's rare for an author to make such a drastic change to a series so deep into it but in this case it works perfectly and it's such a natural continuation of the main character's arc. It's really something you should check out. - One Punch Man: Made by the same author as Mob Psycho 100. It's much less serious and more comedic. The action scenes in Season 1 are some fo the best in any anime and underneath all of it, there's a touching little story about depression and what happens after you've achieved everything you've been working for. The manga has some insane art and I'd definetly recommend checking it out if you liked season 1 of the anime. - One Piece: I'm going to be honest and I'm not sure if you'll like this... but it's my favorite series of all time so I have to recommend it. You might get put off by the art style and length but I promise it's one of the greatest stories ever told. There's lots of fanservice but it's the series aesthetic more than anything else. All the women wear bikinis like all the men don't wear shirts. The series rarely dwells on it aside from a few gags, the protaganist is asexual and only 1 of the main characters is actively perverted. It's greatest strength is probably the cohesiveness of the story and how 'alive' the world feels. The story feels like it's always building up to the grand climax with the arcs we're following sending rippling effects throughout the world that influence the other major players. For example, when the main character defeats a member of an organization responsible for keeping pirates like him under control, opponents of the organization capitalize on it to undermine the confidence of the public leading to the dissolution of said organization. The power vacuum left by his defeat allows for a new global power to rise up while dragging the main character into conflict with his sponsor. This is only possible because of the length of the series and the care the author put into setting everything up to create a cohesive story. I would definetely recommend the manga over the anime, the anime has some serious pacing issues and lots of filler.
Kotaro Lives Alone killed me. Everything from the empathy, the way he communicated with everybody else. And, depressing enough, the relation I felt with him made me stand up and speak about it with my therapist. A fucking child that wanted to go shower made me tackle one of the hardest things of my life 💀
A series I think you’d enjoy a lot is the Jujutsu Kaisen Series It’s got a lot of interesting concepts and a very interesting world And it also has legitimately some of the best main villains in Shonen stuff
i would absolutely recommend monthly girl's nozaki-kun. its a comedy series about a girl trying to confess to her crush but ends up finding out he's a shoujo manga author and starts working as his assistant. genuinely laughed at quite a few points and has a great cast of characters.
For me, Komi Can't Communicate is what Majora's Mask is to you. I see myself in Komi, the animation is gorgeous, and it has amazing scenes, with the chalkboard scene being my favorite scene in all of fiction.
I've not seen it mentioned in other comments but you might enjoy Horimiya. It's a romance story of two *really good* chars encountering each other's hidden sides and falling in love. Bonus points for not being a will-they-wont-they, they're basically emotionally married by like episode 2. Also the dub is fantastic. Edit: OH ALSO! Re:Creators is a fantastic exploration of the relationship between fans, creators, and their creations. It's really something special.
Land of the Lustrous aka Houseki no Kuni is also another really good series. The anime is only 12 episodes long but sadly unfinished though the manga continues the story and is almost at it's end ( the manga only goes to I think chapter 108 i might be wrong). It's a severely underrated story but it's incredibly good. From the manga's beautiful and striking art to the anime's well animated CG (yes a CG anime that's actually good and incredibly well done). Out of all the anime and manga I've read Land of the Lustrous stands out from the rest with it's unique art style, original story, and well written characters. Overall it's my favorite series and i highly recommend it.
"evangelion is the show with the funny penguin in it" i was kind of hoping for schaff's actual thoughts on the show because all my friends really like it and i have still not gotten around to it because getting into a new piece of media you haven't experienced already is inherently overwhelming and its a lot easier to just rewatch the same 3 things ten thousand times over and over
Yeah I wish he would've actually given a reason why he didn't talk about it. Major letdown. Let me tell you though, it's only one season and it has got to be one of the most impactful pieces of media I've seen for me. I implore you to watch it. If I was only ever able to suggest one anime to a person, it would honestly be Evangelion.
@@guigs4467 Schaff logged both NGE and EoE on Letterboxd as watched, did not rate them though. Schaff wrote reviews for them, however, the review for NGE was nothing more than just "uh" and the review for EoE is just "…" lmao

@Sarge Ward this comment was made by Mordor(one of Schaff editors) which he left on Schaff's letterboxd review on End of Eva describing the Schaff gangs experience on watching Evangelion:
"This was the worst decisions we ever made
We came in just sorta having high hopes cause we just said fuck it lets watch it cause we been watching intro memes of it
But god...we weren't prepared of what we delved into
The paused frames
The bizzare breakdowns
A plot and story more confusing then kingdom hearts
We laughed...we cried...we screamed in agony...we lose our minds...we broke our selves
But nothing was as more *nuts* then the end
We felt...disturbed...uncomfortable...confused...desprate to end this rollarcoaster...and then by the *climax* of it all...we felt nothing
All but regret...and this was the one of the mistakes we made ever...and it was worth a ride...bravo vince"
@@matthewbrooks2633 Yeah, from the looks of it, it just seemed like it wasn't really their thing. That, or again, they just didn't know what to make of it. Which I guess is fair enough.

If he loved the Ace Attorney bloopers, he'll probably love Ghost Stories.
He has been using Fate UBW Abridged clips for a while now, it's a pretty safe bet that Schaff would love the Ghost Stories dub.

Another anime that i would recommend you watch is cardcaptor sakura. It might seem like a regular show about a magical girl and all that but it's really really good and very emotional at times.

@@MrRenanHappy I honestly don't see any reason to hate it!
NO, I DON'T WANT THAT!
True
Not to mention that it still has consistent character development through the whole series like a serialized show

Some recommendations:
Violet Evergarden - Beautifully animated show about a soldier turned ghostwriter during a time where letters are the primary form of long distance communication.

Odd Taxi is real bangers
I just start odd taxi is great
I agree with this so much!
This person is right
I loved Oddtaxi... right until the final episode.
Yesss
I couldn’t even watch all of season 2, it was that bad
Season two was about the value of life, I understand why some people would think its not as good as season one (cuz its not) but its not completely terrible, the writers just changed genres after season one
@@watermelon3266the problem with season 2 is that they completely deviate from the manga and then rush the ending. They basically skipped all the good parts

This will also get on the top three list of animes that will make you sob uncontrollably.
Hunterxhunter is like the first anime I ever watched AND genuinely liked so it has a spacial place in my heart

Ashamed you’ve never heard of Hunter X Hunter. It’s a bit long but has an incredible overarching story that ultimately builds up to an incredible finale. Has great action and great characters and the style is amazing
Don't give him the pain of waiting for it to come back 😓
True hxh is incredible. Hunter x hunter for me is peak fiction. Every character is so unique and nen is one the most thought out abilities I seen in any anime.
There's a lot I could say about the plot and all, but to keep it short I just want to say it's a great show that i wholeheartedly recommend and can't get enough of.
i loved watching it too, i think its unfortunate that it came out as a netflix original, due to netflixs awful reputation
Don’t like to be that guy but.. please read the manga, it is much better.
so glad to see this comment towards the top because schaff will love it so much for sure
I recommend reading the Manga over watching the Anime honestly. It feels like such a mediocre adaptation, and the Manga art is just too good.
Absolutely loved Blue Period. One of my favorite shows 💙
I highly recommend Steins;Gate.
100% agree

Ranking of Kings is an absolute gem.
The relationship between an adorable baby boy prince and his little shadow man was such a joy to experience.
While also providing well executed mystery behind the actions/motivations of certain characters make the show really engaging throughout.

The animation is amazing too
@@FSMassy One of the few anime where i feel like i need to purchase the blu ray for it (i don't normally cause it's pretty expensive)

Wow, haven't heard about that anime in a while!
It's really charming and educational! Good recommendation.

2. I love that you can just play a 5-second Bojack clip to educate your audience on asexual relationships

You are really out here trying to annihilate his heart huh
Hunter X Hunter is a slow burn, but it’s definitely one of the strongest character studies I’ve ever seen. The characters are handled very deliberately and they grow in nuance as the series progresses, and the way it depicts themes such as trauma and the self-destructive nature of revenge is heartbreaking and mature. It serves as a deconstruction of the shonen genre, and it’s an absolutely stunning story with a deceptively simple first couple arcs that while it does grow darker it never sacrifices the beating heart at the core of its story, and I think you’d love it a whole lot.
Even slower, though I'd argue more deep, burn is if you start with 1999.
HxH isn’t a deconstruction dude I have no idea why people keep spouting this nonsense. Just because it’s dark doesn’t make it a deconstruction

@@MILDMONSTER1234 yeah it introduces certain tropes repeatedly and then intentionally subverts them. Is the entirety of the final season not out ? Crunchyroll seems to have it all ?
@@jake_obrien Final season was cut to two parts, with the second half releasing next year on January I think.

Season one works very well as a standalone (I didn't watch season 2 and heard bad stuff about it but the manga is really good!)
I'm suprised you haven't watched Madoka Magica, I really love the weird, horror elements and the world building in this show. The tragedy of it all is so good, but it's not made to make you feel overly depressed. The show really benefits of its shortness and if you want more you can check out the movies. My personal fave is Hunter x Hunter, I love the characters and dynamics, the world building is very fun and interesting, especially later on. It's just very enjoyable and the story is super well thought out. There are no filler episodes which is *chef's kiss* . Viland saga is just amazing, the character feel so real and you can’t get enough of fights.
I love the world building in Made in Abyss, but you can’t really recommend it without the massive caveat of the authors… inclinations towards children, because it’s really blatant.

Yes I love that show
Nozaki is a comedy master piece...still hoping for a s2!
Oh, Nozaki is delightful!
My love story is good!! I'm watching it right now and it's amazing
Some anime recommendations (I'm sure there are repeats here, but here goes):
Princess Tutu: On the surface it's an anime about fairy tales, as told through ballet, but the way it uses those established and well-known stories to subvert expectations and tell a unique story of its own is truly great, and I think well worth the watch.
YES PRINCESS TUTU IS SO GOOD
Haikyuu!!
YES YES YES!!

It’s been my favorite show for 3 years now, and I think it will stay that way for a while…
Its for real a great anime it legitimately made me sad at the end

I'd recommend watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It's wildly known as one of the shows that started so many tropes in anime. The first part is a bit hard to get through, but beyond that is a story filled with ridiculous and creative moments and some great characters (especially part 4 onward).
He made a video on the channel that's just his friend talking about how much he loves JoJo's. Maybe he'll watch it himself in the future. Also, part 1 is good IMO.

Truly the most insightful and profound analysis of Neon Genesis Evangelion I've ever seen on UA-cam
Haha.
Thanks, I did not realize that even though I'm half way through season 2
Mob Psycho 100 was one of those shows that I had seen everywhere in some way, shape, or form and hadn't just gotten around to watching until recently and I'm so glad I did. It is so charming in every way, from the action to the slice of life to the humor (which, in my opinion, Reigen carries btw). It's just such a nice watch with such easy-to-love characters. It quickly became one of my favorites and I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet to watch.
Honest to god, one of the best animes ever. Lot's of people turn a blind eye because it doesn't look hyper detailed but it is AMAZING
Here are some of my recommendations Schaff:
- Yuru Camp
- A Place Further than the Universe
- Samurai Champloo
- Hunter x Hunter
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
- Bungou Stray Dogs
- Bocchi the Rock
- Frieren: Journeys End
Honestly, I’m glad to hear you liked a lot of my favorites, like Mob Psycho 100, Cowboy Bebop, Tatami Galaxy and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
I was expecting you to say more about my personal favorite, Neon Genesis Evangelion, but I found the penguin joke funny, and plenty of people have said more.
It’s one of those anime you either love or hate, and I’m on the side that loves it.
Great, Schafrillas is now both a weeb, AND a simp. Betrayal.
Plus the overarching plot that reveals itself as it goes is a pretty compelling one.
i cried more times than i can count watching death parade. definitely worth a binge watch.
... ik if I comment it it will never be brought up but please have him watch your lie in april .... it seems like he would love it
Omg yes Death Parade is so good!
Woah death parade that takes me back…
I got to watch Haikyuu while I was in high school and lemme tell you it hits you hard in the feels, especially for those who are about to graduate and go on to the next sections of their lives.
Yes, please! Literally the best thing I've ever watched! (probably the gayest straight thing too)

I've been interested in it but from the clips I've seen, it appears very slow and dull. Maybe when seen in full context it's actually better, though.
Oh wait I also want to add Ranking of Kings. The animation and character design is phenomenal.

i’m glad you liked so many of these! based on what you said you liked, i’d recommend Violet Evergarden and The Ancient Magus’s bride; they’re both somewhere between FMAB and Fruits Basket in terms of fantasy and characters, with that cozy feeling the wrap it all up together.
I've heard people call Violet Evergarden as Fullmetal Saber. Is that accurate?

@@That_Guy1523 It's not gay all the time, only most of the time.
Happy you had a good time with anime as a new fan. Here's my contribution to the rec list, in order of how much I think you'll enjoy them:
- Bocchi the Rock: I'd be shocked if you didn't like this, it's right up your alley with the other shows you've enjoyed.

Re:Creators?! **DUCK YEAH!**
