Big thanks to Jake for modding my GameCube. This mod is awesome and I have already put hours into Lego starwars and Mario kart double dash. For anyone thinking about modding theirs, I highly recommend. Also I had no idea there was an eject button to get the games out...... Thank you Jake! You're the best
You’re welcome. Please dust a little more often
👌
Have you cleaned it since having it back?
What game was that yall played

"don't be a dirty pirate" while you're showing me how to mod my GameCube to play pirated games.
Just bought the pico kit, definitely going to be doing this ASAP!
Its called heat shrink tubing, you gotta heat it!
I've actually been holding off on this till I saw your video and saw Ali has a full kit! Literally just ordered it!
That full kit is so nice
Look forward to doing mine. Appreciate the vid. Been researching a lot.
Working on it! Excited to play the gamecube again.
I'm about to do this mod myself because been wanting to do a GC mod for more then a decade, just never got around doing it.
i could do the Xeno mod but i know there is a "M.2 loader" mod in the works and this works in conjunction with the picoboot mod, basically plug n play once picoboot is installed and working.
Plastic razor blades will clean thermal paste nicely without causing any scratches at all in the aluminum.
This mod was my 3rd console mod ever and i love it
just stumbled on the listing on Ali. Can't believe how cheap it is! Also got a 256gb sd card lyring around ... I might just try this mod. Thanks for the tutorial!
Yay Jake is FINALLY using the LTT store Screwdriver! My picoboot did not come with all the cables so I had to do it separately but still a great mod as always!
I’m sad that I scratched it so soon but it’s so nice
very cool, just got my first gamecube today 😁
Good video, I have a couple questions for you. When you screw back on the top assembly do the wires get pinched, specifically where you have the heat shrink tubing? And secondly, have you tried updating the preloaded Pico boot firmware?
Ty jake my 1st modded gamecube
Great tutorial. If you do everything correctly and don't get sound or anything on the tv. Try to shorten the wires! I about went crazy thinking I broke my xbox! Reddit told me to shorten my wires less than 5 inches and boom. Worked for me!!
Great Video
@Jake Simmons, following your channel recently. Interesting way your videos you show us real issues we could find while doing the mods and how to deal with those.
Also, I always have issues soldering to chips legs. I have some nerves problems and trembling is inevitable. Any advise to help with that?
Another thing, can you do a video replacing the Gamecube disc drive capacitors? Thank you. Blessings.
Come un caramelo
@monchopr3511
I know this is late but for the trembling make sure you have stable ground for your arms/elbows. Basically your elbows firmly on the table and maybe put smth soft under them so they don't start hurting.
Jake, do you prefer this version over using the fancy flex ribbon option that they have? Curious if you happen to know if one way is better or easier to install than another?
a flex cable is just these wires glued together, you could get any old ribbon cable (like one from an old computer "ide flex ribbon") and use it instead of the wires. the bennifit to the ribbon cable is it keeps your wires organized and flat so they fit better when you close the case
Definitely need to purchase a modded gamecube, hopefully sooner then later.
I know this is late but I just did this, put it back together and the pico is glowing so I think it’s working and GameCube powers on but I’m now getting no signal from the GameCube to my monitor, could you help out with this?
Can’t wait to get my GC out of storage!!!!
If you every decide to mod these to sell on your website, I'd definitely pick one up 🤩
It’s been a thought
Risk asssessment on this mod was insufficient in this video. I bricked my NGC by shorting the IPL due to a sub-IC bridge.
Just came across this tutorial and want to mod mine now, but aliexpress is showing 7 options for picoboot kits. Will any of them work, or are there variations like is mentioned in the video?
I have 10 game cubes at home, but only one picoboot was a successful battle. Other than that, if you temporarily drive when you put on Raspberry Pi, only a black screen will appear. If there is any solution, please teach me.
This mod is really finickily imo. I have done the mod and have a black screen eventually I was able to get it to work by cutting the length of the wires. The wires need to be very short or else you get a black screen when booting. I think the reasoning is the wires need to be short so that the Pico board can be activated before the CPU board activates, at least thats the reasoning.
Wheres the flux on the pico board? 😭
Awesome vid. At this point in time, pirating GameCube games isn’t hurting anyone, but I understand trying to get a better message for Nintendo across.
Hey's your best friend and you didn't upgrade his Battery, Fan, Capacitors??
Damn I think now I’m gonna have to mod my gamecube
yo Jake great tutorial! do you happen to know the gauge of wire the kit includes? I tried this with 26AWG stranded wire and it was difficult. Is this solid wire and would you recommend it?
I don’t know what gauge the wire is but it worked fine for me. I usually use this 30awg wire for most all of my projects amzn.to/3KWjCll
@@JakeSimmons hell yeah thanks for the reply! I heard 26AWG is recommended for Picoboot but they’re big. I’m curious if 30 will work well
Powder coating shouldn't scratch that easily, it is literally plastic. Great vid Cant wait for my pico and sd card adapter to come in.
Can I use any ground point on my pico? The mount i have for it cuts off the GND at the bottom
you can use the one in between all the spots you solder to on the left
4:47 I knew this before I even knew about the game cube how stupid are people I’m pretty sure it says PRESS HERE 💀💀💀 BRO
I was super excited to give this a go but then I realized my GameCube doesn't have a serial port 2. Is there a work around for a dol-101? I didn't hear it mentioned in the video. Love your vids and appreciate the information they spread
The pico wiring is slightly different for dol 101 (linked in description and shown in the video) and I believe you can use a disc drive replacement to run games off of an sd card. But that might be an entirely different mod
Sdgecko or wii sd. Goes in your memory card slot
People just ripped their discs out of their Gamecubes?! Didn't that release button even have something like "Press" on it?
I’m pretty sure it says press haha
My GC is bone stock. I run it on old TV's so I've not really worried about modding it. However it is in the Indigo color. My least favorite color. So I have been considering doing a custom paint job on it. But maybe I should consider some other mods to make it a more useful console to play from. What would you suggest on hardware mods?
… the stuff in this video?
You mentioned another chip mod. And I'm sure there are other mods. So I was curious if you'd recommend this mod in particular over others.
@@looselycollected7505 I recommend this mod, especially if you’re new to soldering. If you want to be able to use Game discs from other regions and use an sd card full of games, I recommend the Xenochip mod
OKAY, FIRST THINGS FIRST, SHOOT YOUR GAMECUBE WITH A SHOTGUN, SECOND, COME TO MY HOUSE I GOT A LAPTOP YOU CAN HAVE FOR FREE, THIRD, DOWNLOAD EMULATORS AND GAMECUBE GAMES FOR FREE AND DO EXACTLY WHAY THIS GENTLEMAN SAID NOT TO DO AND BE A PIRAYE, YAAARRRGH 🤣 I'm jk
@@JakeSimmonsxenochip mod allows you to run any game discs region free on the console as well as have a sd card full of downloaded games?
Xeno GC is a heck of a lot cheaper to buy than the pico boot and requires less intensive soldering. The only downside is calibrating the disk reader Pot and burning a mini dvd-r disc but they sells swiss discs premade too.
I feel like you can’t say a heck of a lot cheaper when it’s only about a $5 difference. I also think the pico install is a lot easier, plus you can replace your thermal pads at the same time. I still think there’s a benefit to having the Xenochip mod, but I think picoboot is better for most people. Just my opinion though
Pico MSRP is $4, it may be more expensive now because of supply chain issues tho. There are no benefits to Xeno over PicoBoot. Running region free games and burned discs is also possible with PicoBoot and as easy as selecting the DVD device in Swiss.
@@maciejkobus Pico is only like 7 dollars on Amazon Prime
I just never got we download games ?
I don't think Nintendo cares if you pirate a game or you buy it from a scalp... I mean, from some random person, which are the two only options right now. Either way, Nintendo (or whatever developer) gets exacly the same amount of money: 0.
What kind of mat is that? I need one of those
amzn.to/3iMVSCt
does the pico u linked in the desc come with the picoboot Software already installed onto it?
I don’t know for sure because idk how to check that but it’s incredibly easy to load
you should put an affiliate link for that HDMI adaptor, I need to buy one and i could have given you a kickback (i dont want to pay that crazy price for the name brand one)
I’m actually selling them now! retroremastered.com/collections/gamecube/products/kaico-hdmi-upscaler
I just tried the pico boot mod ... I'm not getting a signal output anyone. Funny enough, while pressed in the boot sel button and turning on the GC boots into the default way. anyone know that I might be doing wrong here? Already flashed the Pico and the pico led is green ... also used a multimeter to confirm my soldering and they all beep just fine.
Try loosening the screws around where the wires come out. They might be too pinched
@@JakeSimmons I found a post online that the wires may be too long. And sure enough, after shortening them it works!! Thanks again for the great tutorial
do you have to format your micro sd card? i know with most mods ive done you need to format it
You don’t need to unless you’re backing up your games via cleanrip. But I pretty much always just format to fat32 just in case
Cant boot into swiss 😢 i double checked my sd card im using the sd card to memory card adapter and i checked my pico pi but for some reason the picoboot file always disappears why is that ?
I don’t know how to explain it properly but essentially it is on there but you won’t see it in the file system when you plug it back in. Once you load it and it ejects itself, leave it alone, it’s on there. Your problem is probably the wires. Try new wires and make sure you don’t tighten the screws too tight around where they stick out
Its the same model of Pico i have, i wanted to know if the green light when u turn on the console Is bright or After u Power on the console It turn low bright....because i have a problem, its blinking 2-3 times and stay low but dont load swiss :( , Just normal GameCube....dunno what It the problem...May be the soldering? Or something software wise?
Try loosening the screws around where the wires come out. I’ve done it a few times since this video and had problems where the wires were just pinched. Loosening the screws should help!
thanks for saying click this and click that and doing all that in 1 second so i have to keep replaying the video to see which file your talking about.
I need to find someone can mod my GameCube
Broke off an ic chips pin during modding :p (got a new motherboard)
Wait people didn’t realize the GameCube had an eject button lmfaooo
Apparently🤷🏼♂️
Dear Jake Simmons can you modify my gameboy advance with a brighter screen so I can play it at night
You can install an IPS screen on those which is much brighter and better quality than stock. Just have to find someone who knows how to do it
My disc drive died. Would this mod still work?
Absolutely
Are the wires all the same or do they have differences (I’m a beginner with soldering)
they are all the same the colors are just to help you recognizing them
2 weeks too late I already done the mod and it is amazing. Thank you anyways.
@@scpnoobers glad to know that hehe enjoy it ! I am waiting for some picoboot to mod two consoles hehehe
Thanks

Why join the Navy when you can be a pirate?
Not the navy!
this mod works for japanese gamecube?
Works for all GameCubes!
how not to solder 101..........
10:45
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyone else rip their fingertips apart taking the heat sink off?
What is it with youtubers saying "real quick".
It’s because we are speed demons
So wait how do you down load games? And how is it not piracy?
You can back up your games with a modded GameCube or Wii and I think a few other ways
Was the “don’t be a dirty pirate” thing sincere? Oh dear whatever will the multi billion dollar souless corporate entity do if you download iso files of the games they have made intentionally inaccessible to purchase and play like 15 years after they sold the last gamecube
It’s up to the audience to decide if it’s sincere or not
don't be a pirate, why? developers wont get any of the money just reselling sites and price gougers
Not with old out of print games. Those devs aren’t getting any money regardless.
Eh? No one is developing old Gamecube dames today.
Cause it's a youtube video so he has to say it for posterity
What dev is gunna get money for a game that’s been sold 50x? I just farted and smells like rotten egg
When youtubers tell you not to pirate, they're just saying it so UA-cam doesn't take down the video
ႶωႶ
Does this make the GameCube region free?
Yup! You just have to go through the mod menu to start discs from other regions
