Otter XT Pro Lodge Ice House set up and overview

  • The Otter XT Pro Lodge is really a must have for 1-2 people on the go ice fishing. Very portable and easy to set up the Otter Lodge making moving pretty quick, especially if you aren't moving the otter lodge very far. The otter lodge insulation will keep you warm with a sunflower heater on low heat even in minus 15 below temps so just getting the ice house and set up in the cold weather is about all you have to worry about. I set up the otter ice house with Striker Ice Climate Jacket/gloves and a beanie and then take it off when I fish inside the Ottter Lodge. This will become my second home if we get some ice and you'll see more vids!

    Just wrapping up my first full season with the Otter XT Pro Lodge and I love It. It sets up easy, stays warm most days without my heater going, has plenty of storage area in the tub and with the addition of the dome cargo net and back cargo net there is plenty of storage for the temporary things like my quad helmet, gloves, balaclava etc. I would suggest using the ice anchors if you experience heavy winds just to keep down the sway in the tent portion. You'll have to rig something up for attachment since they don't have a system made specifically for that. The comment about the screws falling out after traveling over rougher terrain isn't a factor. The nuts on everything including the Hyfax runner kit if you put one on are nylon insert lock nuts. This is probably the sturdiest unit in its class. I am fortunate to have a sporting goods about 2-1/2 hours away (Franks Great Outdoors, Linwood, Michigan) that has just about every model of all the major manufacturers on display so you can touch, play with and actually sit in all the models. Otter outshines all other brands for quality and durability. Yes you'll pay a bit more but it's worth it if you can afford it.
    Great job on your videos. I've watched most if not all of them and have come to trust your opinion. Keep up the good work and keep 'em coming!!

      I really appreciate this, I should do an updated video after using this house 3 years and still loving it and really getting to know it and how I use it. Thanks for the nice review yourself! Only 7 months to go for ice fishing *sigh*

    Really helpful review thank you. One of my biggest fears is manually pulling the weight but seeing you put it in your truck puts me at ease!
    I would like to know if you have tried using a 36 inch rod in it. Or how long of a rod you have been able to use?
    I discovered your channel 2 or 3 years ago and just want to let you know I dig it!

    • @JaggedToothTackle

      You could run a 36" rod in the house, just space your holes to suit the lengths of your rods. I'm not very good at it usually and get them close where I have to short arm one. I need to figure a better spacing than just start drilling but I've gottena little better not dropping them so close lol

    Did that centre console come with it? Just wondering cuz I bought the floor model at sail in Canada and I didn’t have a console

      Guess you found out by now the answer is no. I got the pro lodge this year and bought the otter sidekick. I wish I had saw this center console tho

      No. They don't really come with anything. I just got one a cpl days ago and they threw in the cover. Idk if that's standard but it wasn't in the box. I'm not sure they even sell those consoles anymore. After watching this vid I was going to ask because I'm about to buy the otter sidekick tomorrow which is a center console but not a box.

    i have the pro resort and love it but if i travel lon distances with it all the screws start falling out all over . I'm going to have to take most of it apart and put it back together with lock tite. also if you live in a windy area i wouldn't go out past 20 km winds . i did and mine flipped over and bent my hitch up

    • @JaggedToothTackle
      @JaggedToothTackle  7 років тому

      I've never had that problem with the screws on mine -- can't remember if I used any type of lock tite or not but I would recommend putting some kind of lubricant on the poles to help them slide especially when it's really cold. I left mine set up once overnight on a small pond -- wasn't supposed to get any wind -- well it really came up and I got lucky as it just flipped the poles and canvas up and over in stow mode -- got really lucky

    • @spennyoliver3608
      @spennyoliver3608 7 років тому

      i used wd-40 on the poles when i first put it together and the i have no issues with he poles yet. i live in a windy area and my and my bro tried setting it up in 60 km winds lol it flipped and bent my hitch and we were inside trying to push it back in with all our strength haha it was comical you had to see us haha

      lol, I need to relube my poles this spring as they are way easier to slide in the cold when you spray them with something -- great tip for anyone

    How do you like your otter xt pro lodge? Gander has it on sale for $711.95

    • @JaggedToothTackle
      @JaggedToothTackle  6 років тому

      I would buy it again hands down. On year 4 I think with it -- my first time out I singed some of the siding with a sunflower heater on a windy day, couple of the straps on the poles have torn some as when it's 20 below I've really pulled and forced those poles out as they are all froze up -- spent A LOT of time in it this. Perfect by myself or with a friend -- really tight with 3 lol

    How tall are you? Are you able to stand tall in the Lodge?

    • @JaggedToothTackle
      @JaggedToothTackle  7 років тому

      I'm 6' tall and I would say there is clearance for someone 6'6 to stand up as I have to every so often and stretch from being hunched over jigging all day

    • @jwitte7086
      @jwitte7086 7 років тому

      That's AWESOME. I'm 6'1" and would love the additional room vs. the XT Pro.

    • @JaggedToothTackle
      @JaggedToothTackle  7 років тому

      I find its great solo or with 1 other person or kids. Granted more room could be ok -- but then I run into loading issues and getting it in my truck and it's just plain heavy

  • @burkdog24
    @burkdog24 7 років тому

    I was wondering if you pulled that by hand and if so how hard is it to pull ?

    • @JaggedToothTackle
      @JaggedToothTackle  7 років тому

      I do, I have a long strap so I can put it around my waist, throw my auger, buckets, sonar, rod case on top and I walk out with it. There is one spot I park on a hill -- just go slow and take my time on that but on ice or hard snow it pulls easy with the runners add on. Soft snow -- kind of a pain

    Going to show how easy it is to set up & take down, BUT not going to use all the pieces, which are very important here in N.D.

    would never recommend buying anything they sell!!!

    • @JaggedToothTackle

      I've never had to deal with their customer service but I've sold otter houses before and they make a great product. I've had a friend talk to their customer service over a seat and they sent him an extra one. Individual experiences -- I'll never go to Perkins again but that doesn't mean they're all bad :)
