Attempting to fix the P0701 limp mode 2007 ford freestyle with new Mechatronic valve body.

- I am trying to fix the p0701 Transmission range and performance code. The car keeps throwing a wrench light and going into limp mode. I have already switched out the throttle body and fixed other engine code problems. Only code it shows is P0701. I may have to get a buddy that has the ford program to reflash and see if this helps.

it's the trans range switch aka park neutral position switch
Oh, for one thing you can’t just use automatic transmission fluid in this transmission. You must use Ford specific CVT transmission fluid or you’re gonna blow up the whole damn thing
billmea ; Ive heard that but local Ford dealers won't service my 07 Freestyle' Trans. Anymore. A local trans shop changed the fluid and filters for about $120.00 at 120K mi. a few years ago( second trans service,1st change was the dealer I bought the car from new) if I still have the car at 180K mi, I'm going back to that shop for another fluid change!
Im dealing with this situation currently. I am tempted to buy the original trans fluid and change the filter to see if that works. You cant just buy any CVT oil it has to be specific to the cvt trans that you have.
Its like 22-30$ for four quarts of this stuff currently. Thats all I can attempt for now
They always say its the crankshaft position that goes weak inside the transfer case if you dont keep up with oil changes. Basically the bearings wear down. Cvt cars last long we just didnt know we had to get an oil change on them everytime we get one for the engine as well🤯 automatic transmissions tend to last longer without fluid changes. Cvt must be changed every 3000 miles like a car oil change. Too bad that I learned all this after the fact. Unfortunately all these mistakes lead to more learning.
insane I recall hearing that sbout frequent a tranny fluid change, but have never done it on mine. I would sell the car before spending that kind of money. Plus there's the hastle of checking the new fluid under the air ntake at Fords recomended temp. ( stamped on the bottom of the drain pan) .No wonder I'm finally seeing Freestyles showing up in local pullaparts. 😐
Amsoil makes a compatible transmission fluid and they put on the bottle guaranteed to be compatible and if you order it from them it's about $14 a quart motorcraft is about 25.00 a quart motorcraft don't make the fluid Phillips Concord makes automotive lubrication
Mine does this in Sumner when in town, stop and go with no airflow. Something seems to overheat in transmission when engine and coolant temp is fine
I noticed your air intake was removed. The last piece, with the black plug part on it, looks brand new. What is that piece? Inside the side of that rubber pipe that you have removed, is a mass airflow sensor. Are they both mass airflow sensors? Mine had that code too
The throttle body
I got a 05 .you can drive it bout a hour and the transmission shuts diwn while motir still running.so havevto leave the car sit bout 20 to 40 minutes. And you can take off druve it agsin.i was told it was a computer in the transmission is bad...but transmission shfts really good. But girs into limp mode about a hour of driving. But after it sits awhile you can druve it agsin.have any ideal. Could this be the problem?
Yes this is what our was doing. The computer is the mechanic unit. Ours didn’t like the new one even after the reflash on the ecu. Ended up being what the transmission shop called a “hub” inside that was bad and quoted 2 times what the car was worth to fix it. It’ll go into limp mode. When you pull over and sit for a few it resets the limp until it detects the problem again. Ours shifted very hard and then wouldn’t go over 45mph until it reset.
If you ever figure it out please let me know somehow lol. Same issue for months now and can't figure out.
Will do. I ended up taking it to a shop that has the ford ids program to flash my vin into the tcm. After the install it set off the abs light and all sorts of other lights. They told me its not communicating and they found some shorted out wires from tcm that run along side the block. Still waiting to hear if they were able to get it to talk to ecu.
just wanted to let you know it ended up being a bearing inside of the transmission and would need entire trans replacement. ended up trading the car in. thanks for watching
From what I kn9w it's the torque converter
My CVT transmission uses CVT fluid, not transmission fluid. Did they sell you the wrong fluid for this car?
It was a Valvoline cvt atf fluid the only one my local Oriley’s had. Ended up being a internal problem not worth fixing on a 250k mile car…. Thanks for watching
How much cvt fluid did you drain and fill?
it lost around 8 quarts
did u solve it and what was the problem?
No it did not. Currently at a shop where they are trying to flash the tcm but its not communicating.

@Outdoors; A pity ,time to bite the bullet for sure on that issue. I love my 07 , but it’s death sentence can be it’s Volvo CVT . “No new parts available for Volvo transmissions. “ I’ve never bought a Volvo for that reason. Nor did i know this crossover was part Volvo when we purchased it . We bought ours new and feel it has more than paid for itself at 136K Mi.
