20 years in the military and I was never issued anything with optics. I'm coming at this with a newb's experience and perspective. I appreciate that this video is geared towards people with less experience. For the same reasons outlined in the video, I went with the LPVO. The costs are coming down and the quality is solid.
I wasn't in quite as long but for about half of it I had optics. Eotech, aimpoint and acog. I liked the acog the best but now days I'm a true believer in LPVOs
I got the V2 1-4. Very nice scope. Keeps zero after over 200 rounds down range and deadly accurate, not to mention very cost effective. Nice job folks. I'll be putting your stuff on more of my rifles.
I wish you guys would design and make a dual purpose scope with a reflex mounted on the top giving us the best of both worlds. I have seen some advertised from other companies but I would rather continue with Tacticon all my products are great and I love supporting an American Vet owned company. Keep up the great work. stay safe.
I know need a video is posted a while ago little late to the party here, but every video I watched on the red dots vs Lpvo nobody has picked what they liked except you, totally appreciate your opinion
True. A LPVO could be a bit more limited in a CQB scenario, I personally haven't had an issue with closer cardboard engagement scenarios. That being said I haven't had alot of low light indoors work with either. Both have their pros and cons!
Would be cool to add a note about prism and micro prism scopes. Etched glass and all. Have a PA micro prism on my 10.3 inch build with a 3x magnifier behind it. For a full 16in though - LPVO because linger range options.
I have the Apex Falcon 1x6 LPVO and my Brother-in-law Bought the 1x4. We both put them on 450 Bushmaster AR builds and unfortunately could not get them to hold Zero. I switched mine to a TM22, so hopefully that works.
I use both. Instead of back up iron sights I use a predator V4 mounted near the muzzle on a 45 degree mount. The weight of a reflex today is practically nothing. The cost is about the same as good iron sights. After having my optic mount slip off during a meet I decided I needed a back up sight option. Why not both today is the question?
I took a chance on a firefield lpvo for 150 bucks. It's on my pcp rifle and I am surprised how much I like it. I'm going to but in on my ar15 to see how it is. I like it a lot
Just seen this video I really enjoyed it I have red dots because the other scopes are out my price range and I have a stigmatism and I’m still trying to figure out what will really be good for me that is in my price range
What’s best is a reticle that first supports the shooter’s understanding for where the barrel is pointed, some shooting needs that understanding to come quickly. At this point in time the concept that best serves that function at any distance and size target is the TA-31F ACOG and it also serves a ranging and bullet drop compensation function. If cost is a factor just get a 4 power Leupold with firedot reticle. Creds: Military Rifle Instructor assisting the USAMU deliver SDM, TTT, and SAFS Training. Now, specifically the so called LPVOs have one infuriating problem. They are marketed to novice shooters and thus have reticle designs which the novice shooter believes to be important, like tic marks for wind holds, bullet drop compensation, and ranging, usually in mil scale. This clutter distracts and in ffp design scope is only useful at high magnification where the shooter will be fighting wobble and mirage. Thing is the novice shooter does not understand how truly bad some of these reticle designs are at preventing the desired results, which can be easily achieved from a simple MOA scaled reticle.
More and more lvpo's are coming out with a red dot center reticle like the vortex razor jm, thats the best of both worlds, bushnell has their trophy lvpo that has a .5 moa dot, for under $300 its the most underrated scope out there
Great video, very informative. I’m used to carrying a Colt M4 with and Aimpoint M68. That being said, what is your opinion on the use of a Red Dot in conjunction with having 20/20 vision? I had a bias towards LVPO’s just because they looked top heavy. Once again you’ve given me a lot to think about. Thank you!
What model LPVO and red dot magnifier combo were you running on those rifles, and my second question is will a LPVO run well on a AR pistol with a 7.5 barrel.
Good info! Nice and short and to the point. I am making the switch over from a red dot, to a LPVO. Question for you. When zeroing the LPVO, I am a little confused. I will be getting a second focal plane. Do you zero on the highest magnification or at the lowest? I have heard that you set it to the higher magnification but, is that for if you use your BDC? If you're not using a BDC, and simply just using your crosshairs, would zeroing at the lowest mag (1x) be good throughout the mag range? Thanks.
Thanks man! So I have always heard and practiced myself zeroing on a SFP optic at max magnification, due to the fact the reticle stays the same, to have the proper hold overs at distance you need to zero at the max setting. That is at least what i have practiced and heard. Hope that helps!
Hello Guys !!! I just got the Vortex strike eagle 1-8 SFP ... Zero @ Max Magnification ... I did zero at 50 yards, it has the the tightest group spread to to about 275 Yards opposed to a 36yard Zero ... which I've ran before .. also when you are at whatever magnification with the LPVO ... The Red Dot on the LPVO Should be True to Point of Aim To Point Of Impact for the most part out to those distances to 275 and then use your BDC and play around with it
@@manuelcabeza6922 Hey! Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the information. Yeah, all I hear is to set your lpvo to higher mag when zeroing, but, I thought that was only for when you're using the Subtensions .On a 1-4, shooting 556 or.223, keeping under 200 yards or so, there's not much hold over.
I noticed the red dot (battery) is on the same rifle as your night vision illuminator(battery). Batteries == batteries or just how it happened to be setup during this filming?
So with a standard fixed front it will be a bit harder. you can get some risers to raise the height of the optic. Although I personally haven't worked a LPVO on a fixed front sight rifle, so I couldn't give you accurate data on how well it works or doesn't. If I can remember, I'll slap one on a upper with a fixed front sight and get back to this comment and let you know!

going to be using the v2 at a 2 gun event Sunday so we'll see how it goes
*Update* V2 was dead on at 25yds right out of the box. Used a 16 inch Ar loaded with 55gr 5.56 ammo. Extremely pleased with this product. Rock on 🤘

Good evening! This was a great video, and an awesome breakdown between the systems!

depends on the job of the weapon, close up like home defense red dot longer ranges or hunting lpvo

LPVO with the right etched reticle is my preference. You lose the weight advantage with a magnifier.
Just seen this video I really enjoyed it I have red dots because the other scopes are out my price range and I have a stigmatism and I’m still trying to figure out what will really be good for me that is in my price range
Holographics are better for people with astigmatism, and so are prism optics from what I have learned so far.
Very good video, thank you.

I'm hoping for a 1 - 8 or 1 - 10 FFP night vision compatible that can compete with Primary Arms.
Good perspective. Red dot user for a while now. I tried the magnifier route and didn’t like it and my rifle felt so heavy
Woooow. Less larping, cursing, and trolling back then! Show this to the Fuds! Lol good shot man. I go red dot but I secretly want a LPvO!😢

How does that LPVO work on rifles with traditional front sight posts instead of the hide away ones? Does it have a riser to raise it up for mounting?
