I much prefer watching videos on cheap Astras with lacquer peel to any supercar. Myself and my colleagues all drive this sort of thing and enjoy the videos on what we can relate to.
Same, those kind of cars are more the world I know, even if I won the lottery Id still never buy a supercar. Id be bursting with Joy in a nice Audi RS4 Estate
Exact same as my old mans, was the first new car he ever bought and it's now sitting on my driveway for sale, the paperwork alone my old man kept is just insane, every single receipt for every single repair, bit of wear on top half of the steering wheel but apart from that it's in stunning condition for a 2009 car, it was on my Dads own driveway for a couple of months as he passed away back on 24th May, just a personal thing along with out of respect I wanted to put his car up for sale looking her best, not her worst. She's now looking her best today and will get snapped up over the next day or two. Thanks again fella.
Class salary saver - I bought a 2002 VW Polo with 4 new tyres with MOT and recent service for £450. Put over 10000 miles on it over 18 months driving back and forth to work and then sold it for £250. Love em!!
the tracker is a smart miles box, usually given by some insurers to new divers so they can monitor your driving style where you gain points, the higher the points the better a driver you are which can reduce the premium upon insurance renewal,
We got this generation Astra in the United States as a Saturn Astra. It was available as either a 3dr or 5dr powered exclusively by a 2.2L engine with either a 5spd manual or a 4spd auto. They were not well received and sold poorly. Although you still see them occasionally being driven as a daily driver. I purchased a five-door with an automatic as a commuter vehicle. I drove it for 10 years and 335,000 MI and problems were few and far between and mostly minor with routine maintenance. The only problems I can recall were shift solenoids and a failed ABS pump. It did need new valve cover gaskets every 75,000 Mi! It never failed to start or leave me stranded and my commute was 180 Mi round trip and the car went on several road trips over 5,000 each including one epic road trip of almost 11,000 Mi from Chicago Illinois to Anchorage Alaska.
In the UK these came with many many engines but the most common was the diesels (it was around the time that diesel was being pushed on us by the government and everyone wanted one. The government have done a complete u turn on diesels now and upped the tax and introduced ULEZ to get rid of them). My uncle had until recently a 2007 1.7 CDTI which he owned since 2011 or so and it had 190,000 miles on it before the head gasket went just this year. Being that the repair is the same price as the cars worth he just scrapped it.
I'm a bit a vauxhall guy,my first was a white chevette, red vinyl inside loved that car til it rusted away,😢my latest one is a 1.9 cdti zafira, and cos I now own a Ladder, that officially makes me an old fart...love the videos ❤
"We took this cheap PX Vauxhall Astra recently and it's actually not bad!" Precisely, a poor Astra that's been abused for years but still has made it past 150,000 miles and with some better maintenance and care could easily do tens of thousands miles more. Nice cheap solid motoring for those who can't afford to buy Range Rovers or put up with their unreliability or repair costs.
Cars like this one are going to be a lot more popular once Joe Public realises that new cars are going to have speed limiters, government trackers etc. so as a second car they will be in demand. I don't mind lacquer peel, it's only cosmetic.
I loved the way you made a big deal about not showing the Passport photo, and then had the Passport photo showing above your head the entire test drive 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I worked with a college lecturer that was a strange cookie. Claimed to have 200k stashed in bags and tins as state weren’t getting his stash if needed to go in home. Didnt live by time clock only light hours. But in his eccentricity he has a mk1 1.3 Astra owned from new an X reg that had done 300k miles when I last saw him 5 yrs ago. My dad was a mechanic/garage owner and he hated vauxhall. I would never have a red car after owning a red polo that peeled like this
An excellent car for commuting or learning or taking the dog to the park. Not everyone needs perfect paint, they may need cheapness per mile and a low, low purchase price. I can see it soldiering on for 4 years.
Just love how diverse your videos are .it shows there's still life in someone's part ex The person who part exchanged that must feel like he has brought a limousine. Keep thease kind of videos coming.
I think it will be a good idea joe to do more of these cheaper cars as everyone can't afford prestige prices a quick cheap in and out buy and a profit hopefully what's not to like in other words fill your boots for less than a bag of sand
With a Astra h something always worth checking is to turn on the lights and try to sound the horn, the CIM regularly fails in them and this is a normal symptom. Replacing a cim is not cheap either 😂😂
Walk away with £550 sold as seen job done and as long as the timing chain ain't rattling away they can go for ages , look how many you see on the road each day !keep up the decent vids Joe soon 100k subs !!!!!
The white dots are the primer underneath, there's so little paint on these every little thing that hits it chips the paint - hail believe it or not can do it it's so thin. I'd one with 120k on it a 1.4 and the bonnet was full of them and I'd no lacquer peel! It blew a hole through a piston by the way- the pistons are made out of cheese. It was in my family from new and was a piece of crap. Serviced on time every year
I wish I had a garage like you close to me with cars in my price range. You seem so honest and upfront the kind of garage I wouldn't worry about :( Been 15 years since I've been able to drive due to medical issues. Finally got my license back this Friday, been building my gardening business which is obviously extremely limited without wheels and I am SHOCKED at how little there is around! Oh how I wish I could magic my old but super reliable escort van back from the scrapyard (it was fine when I sold it but that was some time ago)
I love how cheap astras are to repair so no excuse for poor maintanence, I own a 2012 Zafira and love it, Runs great and easy and cheap to fix. I do love the Ecotec engines although when i owned an escort i loved the Zetec engine to. What a bargain for someone :)
The sport button on the Astra h is in a module that incorporates the hazards which and the lock button. I have a spare unit in the garage 😂 haven’t had an Astra about 15yrs
@@ChrisPatrick-q6k yeah definitely I'm no mug, I was just pointing out that 300 quid is a good price for a cambelt replacement. I actually got mine done for 400 in the end, when people give ridiculous quotes sometimes i think it's because they don't really want the job?
I had an S reg Vectra with red paint. I part ex'd it at 3 year old and the paint was already wrecked by sun damage. You would have thought they would have figured out how to improve their red paint by now.
On a car that age it's probably an insurance black-box; they tend to get left in the vehicle when the policy expires. It looks like a Telefonica unit in the thumbnail and you probably found it on the metal panel to the left of the glovebox.

I have a 1.4 Astra on an 07 plate, the tax for a year is £160. 118000 miles on the clock, original clutch, original auxiliary belt which looks in the same condition as yours, no laquer peel right enough but then I'm in Glasgow 😂

Insurance black box tracker. I’ve had cars with two fitted on more than one occasion.

Somehow more interesting than the usual array of luxury suv
That red Vauxhall will make a fine first car for someone.
The 1.4 engines in these are quite prone to head gasket issues. You'd want to be keeping an eye on that low coolant level.
Used to get those as hire cars. They were painful on the motorway. I don't think I ever returned one without a warning light on 😂
204k i guessed so you got a good car lol by the way how jack doing we think of him i hope that he gets all the help GOD BLESS X
The Banger racer fella's seem to like these.
Some insurance company's use trackers to monitor driver behaviour, I would think that car is £999 all day long. All the Best.
Too cheap paint done that would be £2500 in London all day long
Air tags are another one ben. People leave air tag in the car , they have a spare key snd boom the car is taken from the new owner.
red cars i love them i had bmw 3 series for 3 years from new paint was fantastic but older red cars seem to deteriorate so badly
I had 134,000 miles. That'll do someone for getting about in. I spent years driving disposable cars. 500 quid. Get 2 years out of them. Scrap. Repeat.
Driving well on that mileage with no knocks or bangs suggests it had been well looked after.

Probably a pool car/staff car and they wanted to track it's usage. Seen it many times.
