Episode request: I wish there was an episode like this talking about fire resistant construction products. I live in the western US and they want to raise our fire resistance aggressively. However, searching for "fire resistant" at the big home supply stores yields almost nothing. Even things like Hardipanel that are (or should be) fire rated won't come up. Of course, cost is also a factor. If I could afford to do stone everywhere, that might solve the problem, but it's too much $$$. The episode from Superior CO was nice, but didn't talk much about fire design (maybe this comes out in a later episode from there).
Matt, what you doing to combat drywall cracking from truss uplift in your builds ? I've seen many truss houses that are 10+ years old with minor to significant cracking and gaps where the walls meet the ceilings because of truss uplift. I would personally never live in a truss house unless I built it to ensure the proper techniques were applied to allow the truss to move without lifting the ceiling with it.
@@bobbygetsbanned6049 roof trusses. The lifting occurs because the different rates the top and bottom lumber absorb moisture. They end up bowing and not even touching the interior walls. I’ve seen some gnarly gaps and even ceiling failure once. This is in unconditioned attics. Lots of videos on UA-cam about it. I won’t repair the drywall if the customer refuses the proper fix and I still don’t warranty it.
Ok so what happens when somebody drops a safe, freezer, or washer machine in center of screw truss and the 2 by 4 splits ? Even if the ceiling screwed to bottom of a screw truss how much faster is the fire spread verses a 2 by 10 joist ?

Properly applied Truss clips prevents this IMO. I have never had any issues with trusses and drywall cracking.
The Icon beams look interesting. Have they been weight tested? How do they test against current beams?
They have been thoroughly tested and are equivalent to 2x10 PT joists. 14' clear span + 2' cantilever.

Isn't this just a complaint about all trusses? Every building product has it's pro's/con's. Use the right material for each application.
