- Fun group that was really listening to each other and blending. I may need to buy a kazoo and toilet paper roll.
Updated March 2015.
Leonie Evans: kazoo (UK)
Ewan Bleach: clarinet (UK)
Guillaume Corral: alto sax (France)
Arne Wernink: trumpet (Nederlands)
Alexander Keuenhof: trombone (Germany)
Julien Didier: tuba (France)
Joseph Vu Van: banjo (France)
No specific band name, just friends jamming on "I saw your face in the moon"
The girl on the toilet roll was very talented.
I shit you not
Indeed
XDDDDD
what is the name of that instrument?
@@amirkahwagy7585 tpr or pronounced TEEPEERR
My Dad is currently drawing his final breaths. He was a Chef, poet, artist, and musician. We played this for him. He so loves Dixieland. A look of peace came across his face.
Condolences
@@feminico2613 Thank you. He left this world listening to the music that brought him the greatest joy.
Sincerly condolence
sucks for him.
@@EthenBra Dude, are you high or just plain mean?
Just so ya know its not a toilet roll guys its the case for my kazoo just happens to look a bit like a toilet roll because its old and the labels faded :)
Its a toilet roll :)
@@nathanpera9486 It's not! i would know as its me in the video... the kazoo was given to me by an old man who'd said it was decades old, it had faded writing on the sides and lids on each end which i popped off to play the kazoo through using it as a mute :)
@@leonieevans lol thats nice, but im joking. I know its a kazoo.
Honestly it looks like a pizza roller or pepper grinder lmao
YOU, GO! Leonie!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
i could listen to this all day. They're all talented but the clarinet guy is the real star of the show
Yeah the clarinet player has obviously listened to guys like Johnny Dodds--he really picked up the style of old-time jazz licorice-stick blown'. I half-expected to see him playing an Albert system horn, but it looks like a Boehm from here.
James Sn or maybe none of that is true and he just sounds like them? Does it always have to be him sounding like somebody
Ewan Bleach, a true reeds hero!
The real star is the boy dancing to it😂
I like the girl on the kazoo
The saxophone sounded more like a clarinet than the clarinet did
yes hahaha
i thought the same haha
Yea
Not really. Clarinet is clarinet, saxophone is saxophone.
@@bryanzafare8591 great intelligent comment
Yo, the white t-shirt guy what a legend, protecting that child from the car 1:42

@@AbrahamLincoln4 Lincoln on a video about dixieland
@@willburchett4667 lol
great but we wanted More of the kid dancing,he was having fun.
@@finbarmaguire5668 Not much dancing to be done under the tires of a car.
I have been listening to traditional jazz for 50 years and after listening to this group, Loose Marbles, Tuba Skinny and others I can only say what a huge number of very talented musicians there must be in New Orleans. It's so good to see young people enjoy this American Art form because it's going to be them that keeps it alive.
You obviously haven't otherwise you would of added Eddie Condon to that list am I right?
@@7kudos Well Eddie Condon has been dead for about 45 years, and he was listing two modern bands.
Music never dies, it multiplies
This is the way dixieland is meant to be played. No sheet music, no set melody; just a bass line, a set of chords, and some seriously talented players. Wonderful stuff.
They probably did come up with the tune for the song and then followed through independently
Awesome!...the kazoo girl and the clarinet guy are just outstanding!
I'm from a small city in england, and I have always dreamt of going to America and mainly new Orleans....
I must keep dreaming
yes, and me from Danmark, and to see and hear an englishman on clarinet
I had the privilege of going there last spring during jazzfest; it's like this on a lot of streets especially during the busy times of the day.
Don’t get your hopes up, this is an anomaly. It’s mostly crackheads and lunatics over here.
Direct flights to NO from T5 Heathrow. Smash the plastic and just go...when it’s all safe. It’s a fab place and what you see here is the smallest tip of the iceberg. The folks are great and the food and drink reflect the place.
Right now, on a damp soggy summers day in a Southern England, I’m practicing my scales on a cheap clarinet. A man can dream.
Jackson B just depends where ya go
Each one of them is so talented, great solo performances. I´m not into dixieland music, but a great music fan. And when I feel down I play this video. This makes me feel good instantly
It's so painful to realize that all these people are WAY more talented than a ton of pop stars and here they are on the streets!
Takes more than talent to make a pop star, but you're damn right about the musicians. Top shelf jamming right here.
but here, they can't be corrupted to play that kind of music. Real jazz musicians are stuck like this because cancerous things like smooth jazz and electronic jazz (including electrical instruments in jazz)
Guys, do you know the cost of a house here? Smh.
DEX WW q
I guess that's the beauty in it, they play in an unique way, in an unique place every time, that makes the music from people like them something so special, kind of a romantic thing, because is something you can't listen a thousand times, just the moment, and that's ok.
it's fantastic that younger people are playing this music, it's really important to keep it going ( from an old dude musician)
It makes me proud as a musician to see talented guy's like this playing music...
It's one thing when music is in your blood -- and quite another when it's in your soul. These guys are binded, inseparable, while each gets to celebrate their limitless gift. This is music in all its freedom. God bless.
There is a heated debate among toilet-roll percussionists on whether the proper technique it to strike over or under the roll.
Works pretty well whatever the method. .
zebra3stripes this say in this debate that if it sells then its fine no matter if you have no techique it's still good
zebra you're so funny. But everyone knows the patent requires over the roll.
@@kurtwoodard3209 Are you kidding me? Everyone knows that you get better sound and soul under.
Anon Ymous I didn't know that....
Listening to this again and again. Never gets old.
That clarinetist is over-the-top awesome.
vermilion J no shit, you read the description dumbfuck
well I recognised him without the description.... chill
That's because he's a Brit.!
Brit.
Ewan Bleach Clarinet.
Yes he is, also in tuba skinny. I love that man.
I keep coming back to this video time and time again. I love this.
Pure joy.
What kind of mindless fool dislikes Dixieland? It is seriously HAPPY music !
Not when it's being forced on you in the street, go in the bar with that and if people want to hear it they can choose to go in as opposed to being subjected to it by these street arsons
Belly Boy
I sorta agree. I doubt if a really good
Dixieland jazz band would'nt be out on the
streets playing for chump change, no these are ametures-it is obvious-a kazoo?
+Belly Boy bro you're walking the street if you don't like it keep walking silly
Gus Ramirez they can keep walking.
Belly Boy
you mean the guys playing? xD
A big round of applause not only to this exceptional group of talented musicians, but to Ken Jones for not only recording this live performance, but for also taking the rare move to provide the name, home country and instrument of each musician. This has enabled me to find more performances by some of the artists. Sadly, not all of them together, but Ken did something very rare, and very appreciated. Thank you Ken for this historical recording and the extra information on these fine talents.
Thanks! But really all the credit goes to the musicians. I just happened to be there to witness. Such great music.
Watching and listening to this put a big smile on my face. What I don't get is seeing people walking by, seemingly oblivious to what's going on. 23 people lost their mojo!
Life is good and Dixie can proove it
Many greetings from Germany. You do it wonderfully, I indulged myself in listening for hours, I enjoy your music so much!
3:40 the best solo
That's Ewan Bleach on clarinet!! He was at the Whitley Bay Jazz Festival last November. He's phenomenal!
I LOVE New Orleans I've only been once but the culture and music everywhere was so freaking cool to see
Wonderful!
I could never walk by like those people did, without stopping to listen for awhile.
That little kid though... He's knows whats up! She moved him away from the car to the sidewalk and he just kept cuttin it!!! This speaks so much about the culture and atmosphere of New Orleans....
So bad he couldnt return to where he was, standing proudly in the middle of the street. too many cars around here...
Is anyone gonna talk abt how chill the tuba guy was? He deserved a solo.
8 years later and 1000's of kms away (Uruguay) I can't stop my left foot from moving .
The magic of music .thanks 💖
Really really terrific! I could listen all day.
Jonty Westphal I dare you to
Every Awesome Jazz Band People, Your Ancestors Up In "Jazz Music Heaven" Would Be So Proud of You All
Man I may be tripping, but even the Kazoo sounds great, it has that steamboat Mickey Mouse Black & White Disney sound jajaja xD Great Music from great musicians, awesome video!
Steamboat willie I love that
Wonderful, joyous performance. Makes the world a better place!
this is simply OUTSTANDING! I play clarinet and this guy blew my mind! I gotta learn Jazz
Jazz, the music of pure happiness! This is what the world needs right now. I mean come on, how can you listen to this with a frown? Everyone can join in, too, that Kazoo proves it! Man, what a sound that little thing has! Just gotta love it all!
Kad neko voli muziku i izvodi je maestralno ne treba mu velike dvorane za koncert...i ulica je dovoljna...Bravo majstori...
Makes me want to go back to New Orleans for a visit. VERY NICE.
Big thanks for sharing: one of th nicest, great un "hot" "3th part of TIGER RAG" -32 bars- Each hrous/solo is wunderful. Banjo and tuba work is one of the best I hear the latest 65 Years (really)
Banjo guy really keeping it together.
I only noticed it when the music fell apart right when his solo hit lol (3:04)
What an awesome group!!! I love the clarinet solos most (being a clarinetist myself). But all the musicians were amazing!!
+Frank DeFelice You've got great taste. These guys are really great together. The amazing clarinet player is Ewan Bleach, from the UK . The other members are listed in the Description. They normally don't play together in their own countries, so this is even more awesome how well they listen to each other. Ewan played a lot with Tuba Skinny in New Orleans when he used to visit more often, but I guess he's too busy with his own bands in the UK lately. He plays with The Man Overboard and other bands. Just type Ewan's name in UA-cam and a ton of stuff comes up.
Thank you!!
WOW, you guys are amazing!!! What an energy, what a talent and what a great performance. 10 👍!!!
I'm not usually a fan of Dixieland, but these guys (and girl) are so damn good.
I totally agree
A pleasure to listen to, one of the better street bands, liked the kazzo also. Thanks for sharing.
your band of great music made my day thanks a lot you can not be any thing but happy and smilling listening to it
loved it ! wish there was more of this music wondering the streets and people just listening and dancing ..
Tip O' the hat to the kazoo player! Great job.
How on earth can you top this?? Simply magical!!!
Wow! Immensely talented...but in New Orleans just another street band.
really ?i must see this shit, like mardi gras ?
I never get tired of watching these guys! No wonder they've had over two-and-a-half million views! Of all the New Orleans Street Jazz clips I've seen - this has to be one of the best, as far as I'm concerned!
Fantastically talented musicians! Love this music!
God dang! 9 years ago? Where are they now? What a terrific bunch of skilled musicians! Just FANTASTIC
Special mention to the tuba player who took full advantage of his freedom to do a hit and run anywhere in this ensemble piece. Even though you see him or don't see him, that monster tuba is doing its job!!
GREAT BANJO
GO KID !! NEVER STOP YOU ARE GREAT

....... pretty girl ...... great camera angle........ Love the music....... all talented handsome guys (and girl)........ I'm proud of you all for putting forth Light and Sound in This World..........
How does anyone give such music a Thumbs Down? In addition to the general virtuosity on display, the improvisational cooperation of such music is...frankly...beyond most of the world's most accomplished musicians. It takes a special kind of skill to navigate and negotiate good jazz, and y'all knocked it out of the park! I only wish I had been there, so I could have thrown money at you!
These are the true musical celebrities, not the screaming, pyrotechnics, light show supported folks we hear far too much of. Take all the glitz away and there is not much underneath in terms of real musical talent. These jazz artists are top drawer highly talented musicians in the true sense of the word. Greetings from Tasmania Australia 🎼🎷👍😁🇦🇺🦘
@@ShevillMathers Hello from Oregon, USA!
@@OmniphonProductions -Back to you-obviously a discerning New Orleans jazz enthusiast. Just fantastic to listen to. I grew up in the 40's and it was my kind of music, still is. Get to play my clarinet and Soprano sax now and again. Age is taking its toll.😥
@@ShevillMathers I miss the sax. I was first chair on Tenor and Baritone in junior high; had to use the school's "loaners" because, as you know, saxes ain't cheap. Anyway, the director at my first school was a bit of tyrant, so I was actually somewhat excited when the school district drew new boundaries; I hoped a new school would have a better director. NOPE! The second was even worse than the first, so (much as I regret leaving the sax behind) I switched to choir. Turns out, in my most difficult, adolescent years, that choir teacher...pretty literally...saved my life. Now, I sing and play several instruments, some quite proficiently, especially the Mississipi Sax (AKA: Harmonica).
Speaking of which, if the toll that age is taking involves less nimble fingers, the harmonica is an option worth exploring...being almost entirely about embouchure.
@@OmniphonProductions -My better half sings in various choir groups touring aged care homes.Unti a few years ago she was part of an Old Time Music Hall group for 30 odd years playing at a great local tavern with regular interstate visitors, those were the days but age knocks us off one by one. I am heading towards 86 and still pretty active-other than the arthritis etc. Grew up with Chris Barber, Lonnie Donnegan, Aker Bilk and all those well known names. I had a skiffle group and small jazz band during my days as a medic at a Royal Air Force Hospital in Germany- mid 1950's. Many today would not even know what a skiffle group was. Boy did we have lots of fun.
J’adore cette musique, je regrette que cela n’existe pas dans mon pays en France.
J’adore le jazz de la Nouvelle Orléans. Bravo 😊
New Orleans My Hometown!! I'm always in The French Quarter listening to good Dixieland Music!!
This is the pure definition of joyful noise. Ya gotta love it.
That's a whole lotta talent right there!!! NICE!!
There is no talent, only hard work and practice. Takes a lot to be that good. Doesn't just come to you all of a sudden.
+Papapoo Do There is a big difference between talent and skill.
Reminds me of my visit to Bourbon Street N.O. in 2015. Very impressed with the many great musicians playing jazz and Dixieland music,
This was just amazing!! I just wanted you all to keep playing for another 20 mins. And the young man tapping/stepping to your music was just adorable!! Thank you so much for sharing. And I have no idea why this was under comedy, you're all just lovely musicians. (I played clarinet in a dixie band when I was much younger. So so much fun!)
Real talent! Absolutely fantastic!
New Orleans... My favourite city in the USA.
S C you spelled favorite wrong, idiot
He's probably british, moron.
You must live in a small, small world.
S C everyone has an opinion
Son of a bitch, he can spell favourite if he wants, dumbass piece of shit lol
Wow. Outstanding musicians and the music is superb. Great job guys!
Great Group. Great Jazz. Keep playing.
New Orleans... My favourite city..from Australia!! Go guys..You are fantastic!!!
People in the comments criticizing the common people. Not everyone has the tastes and sense of skill that musicians have.
A boring day until now! Thanks for the wonderful uplifting music!!!
I recognize the clarinet player, Ewan Bleach, who also played with Tuba Skinny.
What a nice Dixieland performance. I like all solos.
Typical banjo sound and the tuba. Very funny music!!!
Dixieland clarinet is the most scrumptious thing on this magnificent earth
This just puts a huge smile on my face. Dixieland jazz is one of the funnest and finest art forms America has ever created. This stuff should be playing on a street corner in every city.
Hey y'all, this is hot jazz, not dixieland! Not trying to be rude by any means. Dixieland is what they called it in the 50's/60's. It was a revival of the O.G. shit, which was called hot jazz in the 20's & 30's...What the gal is doing is called "Blue Blowing" (and she's bad ass at it btw). Check out the early recordings of a band called Mound City Blue Blowers to get an example of what it is.. That is Ewan Bleach on clarinet, my other fav clarinetist to play with, and yes, he plays with Tuba Skinny on occasion and visits nola to play. You're indeed lucky if you catch him while he's there. He's hot (playing) as fuck..This is just a typical pick up band of folks who share the same language. "They called it jazz".
Please remove the bad words. I do not like it. What I like is the way the girl plays. And you all look at the trombonist. It seems he likes it too.
dixieland is hot blues?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixieland
Then is it the same?. it's funny because I was thinking what genre is this... then checked the comments and voila!. I will read the link. Love this music. But wasn't sure about the name.
@@so70aeiou The weak link, that trombonist you just singled out.
Great comment by Borghesi - I laughed my ass off. He doesn't have even the faintest idea about the topic, but he's lecturing us. Must be a teacher.
Great banjo! You are really good. John Meksa
During my tweeny years I found myself enjoying the sound of the Dixieland band at Disneland, CA at their Carnation Gardens. Tuba Skinny (on UA-cam) is another great group to listen to.
Fascinating group , great talent and intoxicating dixie land music!
Thanks for sharing this really cool video! It is so encouraging for me to watch these young players enjoying themselves while playing more than the boring redundant melodies being manufactured out in the pop music realm. I particularly liked the make-shift kazoo toilet roll horn! Really clever! Kudos to band's talent and fun they brought!
Humor is the keyword in this kind of music.
Wow, what a FUNtastic music! Thank you for sharing with us, if only I were there it would be fun playing the drums. Hahaha. Cool.
Why do people just walk by...why isnt there a crowd forming around them..
+PlaGueRAza what
+Arman Hdz I don't know either . This is New Orleans the home of jazz and these guys were playing great jazz improvisation . I always stop to listen to a great street musician . Maybe there's so much jazz around in New Orleans the people become blase about it .
omar mukhtar It's a term of endearment to them
i imagine it's because it's in New Orleans where there's always people playing on the streets like this
I agree, came here to comment exactly that, I mean this music is really good and I would stop and listen if it were in my hometown, but I feel like there's probably a band of some sort like this on corners all around New Orleans.
These guys are so talented. I love this style.
Wonderful music! Great musicians! And, their enjoyment is so infectious. What is the charming young lady playing and adding an interesting dimension?
Kazoo in toilet roll. Really it should be louder!
They are doing very fine. It keeps the dixieland fire burning. Thanks a lot.
She can really play the toilet paper roll, I'm glad they gave her a solo!
Brings back such good and happy memories. Those WERE the days!
Poor kid, guess they didn't like his dancing lol
+Raul Mejia He was showing them up.
Could it be the car coming down the street ??
Ain't no Yuk lol, the kids simply feeling the groove, n adults looking out for him - So great that people can still get together like this -
That kid remembered me myself at his age. Children always recognize good music because music is art and come from souls. Adults use music for social proposals. Thats why pepople passes by without having any reaction.
Only a question of security
Freaking out each time when listening to such music, specially to this one, what a rythm......
Now I know where I want to be buried. Then I get to listen to this with out going to "heaven". I would already be there.
So awesome!!! and that opening lick by the saxophonist! Oh man, this is so inspirational!
"Just walk on by"... (What , are you Deaf??!!)
Why on earth people walk by is beyond me cracking band ,will go there one day to see all the bands 5 ⭐️ I’m cracking on a bit now now (74)can’t wait
And they say America has no culture.
This sums up why I been dying to do my 40th birthday trip to NEW ORLEANS! I could sit on bourbon street and listen to this all day!
THATS IT NEW ORLEANS I MUST GO TO YOU AND MARRY THERE! MUST GO! MUST MUST GO!
This group sounds amazing! They sound like they were born and raised there and playing this music all their lives; but according to the description, not a one of them is even from the US!! I wish I could play my clarinet like that guy!!
Man that Was great!!!love it
God know im late . But man so good to hear real music again . Y'all guys or wonderful great job 🕺👍
