I get it, yet jail/prison overcrowding issue is huge, funding stretched, etc. Reforms in the justice system are imperative - ones that don't make the monster factories worse, but ones that curb recidivism by making re-offending the worst choice. In a nutshell - Where do we put them all?
If you watch courtroom videos they typically take a plea deal and get deferred adjudication and placed on probation. The simple reason is the jails are overcrowded and they need the space for the real serious offenders. The hope is people like him will get their act together but they usually don't. He's already missed a probation appointement and my have a warrant for that and will end up back in front of the judge.

Sometimes I wonder how police officers feel about risking their lives over and over and then gets disrespted by a judge and the court. Not to even take in account the public safety. Judges just give these criminals a slap on the wrist and send them back out to commit more crimes. The Judge don't put his or her life on the line, or risk it. Police officers do. How some of these spinless judges get their positions make one wonder 🤔.
Whoever gave him keys to a car should get sentenced to 18 months of FORMAL probation and the kid 18 months in Juvenile Detention. He put the public at risk of injury or death. Implied Malice. He knew what he was doing.
We spent twelve days at Angelfire a couple winters ago, and thought maybe we'd spend a couple weeks at Taos this coming season. We're not interested in risking our safety in a lawless state, however.
Who let him out ? If the justice system wasn’t broken he would be in jail …. He goes to jail and gets right back out …. What do you expect? Maybe harsher punishment?
