Yes to more Elin please! (and sorry for the essay below) My early game tips: 1) Pick the little girl unless you want to deliberately make things harder. 2) Work on some base infrastructure before heading out fighting. You can make a weapon and some armour from stuff you get from cleaning up your base. Go east to the beach for the needles. 3) Get a quest board for your base from the caravan cat in Tinkers Camp. Often your residents will just want crap you have lying around for easy platinum coins. 4) Buy a tent from Tinkers Camp and carry it with you. There is nothing worse than finding a paper material hammer and not having a tent. Later: 4) Get the farming skill from Yowyn and use Delegated Farming policy as soon as it is available to get mushrooms going for stat potential raising. Any excess, and the red/white ones, can be brewed into sellables. 5) Use fishing/sawmill to make bonito flakes for potage (in a camp pot) for even better stat potential. I aim for 200+ stat potential in all 8 stats. Again, brew any excess for extra coin. 6) Ehekatl is a great first god. The altars only weigh 80 and the chance to use little to no stamina for actions is amazing. The pet (black cat) available at 15 faith/piety is a fast mount (riding) and automatically enchants the chest drops you get from the boss of Nefia. 7) Get the quests for and then join all 4 guilds as soon as practical. My salary pays my monthly tax bill. Sell your fame to informers to manage your tax bill too. 8) Have one base (I use Meadow) focused on shopkeepers and a secretary as residents. You can invest in the secretary, which raises the level of all the shopkeepers in that base. 9) Use scrolls or return/evacuation purchased from Farris (who you rescue from Nymelle) to quickly get to Meadow and Vernis (via the mine once unlocked).
These are some great tips that I plan on mentioning along the way. I have gotten pretty far on my main save over 60 hours or so, but it's refreshing to start again :)
Red and White Mushrooms are actually very usable if you want their stat bonuses. Immunity to the poison condition is a pretty common trait on artifacts, and if you eat your white mushrooms just before sleeping or settling in for a long fishing/smelting session, you can just ignore the trip.
More Elin please. This game has so much depth to it it is impossible to truly dig into its mechanics with just one hour long video. Elin is a gem of a game
always put your first two points into meditation. Being able to get back more stamina each time you meditatie is key to being able to delve the dungeons
Pick flowers. Gathering skill over time and ok orens. Try it on Oath of Eternity next run. Oh and shift, ctrl, and alt click are your friend. Thank you for turning on widgets. Next time your in the game options menu in game click the widget tab and you can save the theme you get set up and happy with. Think I may have a setting to try in game options under game tab check the one for using shift click in order to attack allies. I was slapping my bear with ranged and think this fixed it. In any dungeon you can right click on the minimap and auto run to the spot you click. Been using this to quick exit after clearing.
Rogue I hope your having fun in Elin, I Bought the game off of your recommendation and I did learn something about spellbooks, While i am not the most Knowledgeable I can say that rereading spellbooks for spells you already have ADDS More charges to it. I Feel it is the same ammount as the first time you read it but I was chilling for a good while with frostarrow at like 30 charges while I was also trying to level Martial Arts
Not a tip for early game, but a tip that is handy to know from early on for middle to late game: ▪︎Save undeciphered ancient books for when you'll need them. Do not decipher. ▪︎Every town or non random map has hidden medals in them that you'll actively need to search for by skipping turns. You'll figure out why you very much need them later
The ring dropped when you completed the quest saying I want to explore Nefia. Quest rewards drop and you dont auto pickup like the platinum coins and money for instance. Its pretty easy to miss
Elin is so much fun, I already put 100 hours into it since release 👀 Can recommend getting and using the riding and symbiosis (host) skills with two companions since that makes them unable to die (they just fall unconscious at 0 hp and regenerate after the battle) and they stay at your side since well you are riding one and "become Venom" with another. Direct heals will also apply to the full stack of you and your two allies like this. Also regarding auto explore I only saw that as a mod.
Yo.. this is an awsome game. Make more videos on it pls.. Also, is there any option to make the fonts bigger. The texts feel quite small and hard to read.
As for an actual tip: I've only got maybe a dozen or so more hours than you, so you may know this already but.. Fishing is a really good food source because many fish have no negative stat effects when eaten, and you can turn them into kibble, which is quite light and doesn't rot. The pain point with fishing is that you need loads of bait, which is made from bones--and those're hard to collect in bulk. So the trick is to mine out the metal wall covers in those futuristic dungeons. You'll very quickly get hundreds of scrap, which can be crafted into nails. The nails can be deconstructed with a hammer, leaving you with the bones you need to craft bait. I like this method because it's reasonably speedy, trains several other skills while you're at it, and gives you a use for an otherwise useless material. There are some other alchemical secrets in this game that use the deconstruction mechanic to make strange items like the metal bones this method generates, some of which are quite useful...
One more, because you mentioned it: As I understand it, there don't seem to be 2-handed or 1-handed weapons. Rather, your equipment determines which of the combat-style skills you're using. ie: No weapon equipped: Martial Arts One weapon equipped: 2-Handing 2 weapons equipped: Dual Wielding Weapon & Shield: Defensive Fighting Each "style" is a different skill with advantages and disadvantages in combat, and gives you some kind of bonus at 5-level breakpoints.
@@pk-bs8vq You can make fish bait from mushrooms and you can infinity of them from automated farming. When it comes to fishing and money you can rescue Some npc from Nymelle and they sell brewery barrel recipe. You can cut fish on sawmil into flakes and ferment those into wine inside those barrels.

Another good tip is to check animal tamer every time you're in town for the chicken priest it's a great pet and it's only about 5k

I love Qud but I’ve been obsessed with this series lately. So yeah I definitely want to see more of this. Your vids are my favorite
Definitely need more Elin
this game is legit. Love making gems into ingots

Didn't know about the medals - that's interesting....
my tip: farming farming farming. And multiple gourmet traits
Great video. It's a lot of fun, but can also be very challenging.
Thank you :) Yeah it's a hard game, but I've gotten pretty far in my other playthrough and once you have a base sorted it's not too bad :)
Matrix - matrices. Vase - Vatrices
elin content, yippee!!!

You can open your starting locked chest. In my game I did it at lockpick level 42 and what I found was really useful for me at the time.
Yeah I opened it in another playthrough :)

Yeah I have almost 50 hours and I can confirm symbiosis is really cool! I'll just need to rediscover where it was I learned the skill!

Elin is the name of my mother. Weird.
Started playing Elin after watching your last video about it
How are you enjoying it?
@@Rogue_RatIt's obtuse and difficult but I keep coming back to it. So much to try and explore
