  • This was a difficult review and I probably botched it, but to nutshell what I wanted to convey was this; if you love pedal boards? look elsewhere. If you have no use for pedal boards and want a great sounding multi-channel amp this very well might be for you.

    Thanks for the in depth review video. I was contemplating purchasing this expensive amp based on some other reviews.

    Hi, thanks for the video. I was convinced to get this amp to play at home, but your demo with attenuator makes me chance my mind. Than I saw your Engl (head + cabinet) demo, and think that it works better for me. Brutal tone, a real attenuator, maybe less sound options but much better able to get pedals, if needed. Engl more expensive but better this way that waste my money into the Ironheart which probably I wouldn't be happy later

      I think you've made the right call - if you can, get both the Ironball and Fireball and return the one you don't like. They're similar but different enough...

    Hey OG! Really good take. So limited in sounds to three albeit really good ones. Probably enough for me, but I'd be interested in trying the Laney Studio

      I didn’t like the studio for the same reasons, didn’t take pedals real well so you’re kind of left with the tones that the head provides. And it has this digital component to it, hard to explain... Also :) EL84 tubes deliver about 18W and the Studio touts and amazing 60W! How does that happen without some help somewhere along the line? The tones though, like you said, are pretty darn good and the adjustable boost is probably the best I’ve heard. Let us know what you think of the Studio should you get one soon.

    Thanks for candid review, i've watched a few clip on this model but different watts, i can't be sure but this series sounds non musical to the ear for most of the demo i had seen.
    L20 t sounds much nicer in review.
    Please let me know your thought.

      I got that same thing you're talking about from most of the Laney stuff. I had the IRT15 head for a while but ended up selling it, turns out I'm a Marshall guy... plain and simple.

    Sounds pretty gnarly. How did you like it vs your DSL?

    • @oldguyjammin9732
      @oldguyjammin9732  Рік тому +1

      I preferred the DSL to the IRT, there was a 'digital aspect' to the IRT that I couldn't get around and I ended up selling it. The DSL offers more tonal variety.

    Thanks for the review I’m just now looking at this amp my normal amp that I play through is a TSL601 Marshall I use a tone Tubi speaker and it sounds killer with lots of power 60 watts. After 22 years the amp has stopped working so looking for a replacement are use a boss GT 100 to get a variety of different sounds. I normally just use the clean channel and don’t use anything else. Looking to replace with a 1/12 bottom combo. Do you have any suggestions? Also would like to have a emulator DI out. I have a recording studio so this is a great feature to have hopefully you get this soon as I want to need to buy an amp quickly.Still gig in classic rock at 64 but still looking for that killer sound thanks for your review

    • @oldguyjammin9732
      @oldguyjammin9732  2 роки тому

      At first blush I’d say replace the amp you know and love with another of the same :) People rave about the Laney IRT Studio (not sure if they have a combo) for recording work, also Hughes and Kettner reportedly have the best DI out there, it’s called Redbox I think. Suppose to be killer. I’ve also read that the DSL line has very good DI. These days most makers are putting a lot of great features on the backs of their amps - dig around a bit. You might even give Sweetwater a call, they are very helpful. As far as a purely honest pedal platform combo I’d recommend the Tweaker 15 but while it has a send/return loop, it does not have a dedicated DI.

    Gotta question I'm looking for a grab an go amp tubes cover clean, crunch ,brown , 30 watts sounds great lil to expensive but u gotta pay for what u want ...

    • @oldguyjammin9732
      @oldguyjammin9732  Рік тому

      Amp Voicing is a good place to start. What do you want at the core of your musical interest? Mesa, Vox, Marshall, Peavey, etc. Given you want good crunch and "that brown" I'd say Marshall-like tones are what you're after. Because I have yet to find an amp that will "do it all", the next question would be, what style of music will you play 70% of the time? Is crunch more important than a great high gain brown sound, or are really great cleans more important? Friedman BE JJ Jr combo may be your thing if crunch and brown high gain take a front seat to cleans. Matchless is another great amp. If there's a particular artist you're trying to nail down, I'd get 'that guitar' and 'that amp' and 'those pedals'.
      What about features like low hiss, clean effects loop, series or parallel effects loop, on board attenuation, DI out, etc.

    Lol, I have a Laney IRT30 as well and am having the same problem bonding with it. There is something synthetic/processed to me that I cant put my finger on. Long story short it is for sale. I am looking for a lunch box amp to do the scooped heavy metal sound as well as the modern heavy metal sound. I am not opposed to buying to amps if needed. I am looking at the Peavey Invective MH20, Engl Fireball 25, and the Mesa Boogie Rectifier 25. What are your thoughts?

    • @oldguyjammin9732
      @oldguyjammin9732  3 роки тому +1

      Yep, I hear you. I gave it a good go, but... you know. Of the amps you mentioned I'd lean towards the Fireball or the Peavey. I'm VERY stoked with my Fireball but it's pricey, the Ironball is another good amp but I think the clean channel on the Fireball is much better. I'd stay away from the rectifiers cause they're a bit squishy and never really tighten up even with a pedal. The mini rec is a very mid strong amp that I could never get scoped enough for "that scooped sound". People recommended an EQ pedal but I don't more stuff in my chain. The Ironball is a little dryer, more brittle than the Ironball but the Ironball has a great clean channel, takes pedals early well, and real attenuation that still sounds great at bedroom levels. A nice eq lets you have both mid scooped AND mid humped tones. And the 4 button footswitch gives you lots of options. Good luck

    Isnt the point of a decent tube amp to not use/need pedals?

      John just did this shootout and for all “intense and purposes” the amps all do the same thing, just with different flavors, so to speak. For example, Mesas hurt my ears!?!? Don’t know why but I’ve owned three and they’ve all been irritating. I like Marshall flavored amps, like the EVH and Friedman stuff. The Laney was great and actually had one of the best overdrive boosts I’ve ever tried… I just didn’t like it overall, wasn’t my sound. If to you, it sounds Good, then it is Good! \m/
