New to the subscription, but prior to, watched several of your videos such as trip to Hawaii. During one of your eloquent moments of self reflection, you suggested we should all live our lives without regrets. Not to wonder why, for not having done, what was within our grasp to do. At a few months away from being 70, I just bought a clean repowered 32 Sabre. I'm getting her and me ready to sail to the Florida Keyes from Mobile Bay. Thanks for the inspiration. Your command of the English language and inflections are enjoyable. Look forward to seeing many more videos. All advice is welcome.

Watching your videos I’m inspired by your abilities and tenacity especially at your age where most wouldn’t get out of their recliners if the house was on fire. Sailing provides us with sweet moments of solitude and sanity while challenging us in ways we never knew we needed or wanted. Solving these issues (or monitoring them) is truly a lesson for life. Keep going as long as you can and please, always take us with you. You challenge us to be better humans in many ways. Peace my friend.

Dear Mr. Williams, I love your videos. I learned how to sail from an "Old Man" on the Great Lakes. I was on his racing crew for 7 years. After I moved away, he continued racing until he was 88 and finally moved on to the great downwind leg in the sky when he was 93. He was a great lover of literature, the arts, and jazz. Every winter, we would trek to the boat yard, sit in the cabin while it rained outside, checking all the deck fittings for leaks. We had a small FM radio and would listen to "Dick Buckley's Archives of Jazz" on NPR (or maybe it was the local Chicago affiliate). When I hear Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, or the other jazz greats of the past, I think of those days. Thank you for your videos, your great taste in music, and your poetic love of being at sea.

Thank you. Marvellous to see you out in the sunshine. When you eventually remove the grab rails and redo them, you might consider a product named Woodskin. It is, as I understand it, part varnish, part oil , and therefore penetrates. I have had some success with it. Best wishes from grey chilly England.

I have had good long term results on teak by stripping and sanding to 180, acitone wipe down , 2 coats MAS epoxy (in 1 day) which fills the grain and then sand down to 220 ( don’t sand through) then Bristol 2 part varnish. You can get 3 coats varnish in a day with NO sanding between coats Do 6 to 8 coats Bristol varnish is now owned by MAS epoxy Cheers

I had to bight the bullet this winter, took my grab rails off the boat completely. They're now home in the basement workshop ready to be stripped, sanded, and varnished (~5 coats of Minwax Helmsman Spar). Just looked too ruddy and worn and had some varnish on the non-skid to clean up.....went right by the tape.

    Great title.
From the position of my professional career that I reached only by sitting on the rhetorical shoulders of his life of dogged, unfailing painting and varnishing, I asked how he faced the long lonely hours of daily boredom with his brushes, that I couldn't face for just two days.
He told me he did it because his family needed him to, because he could and in his mind, while doing it, he could contemplate and re-muse on any subject and go to any place he chose. This was how an uneducated man was able to explain to an educated one, the reasons that so many things were as they were.
He'd quietly worked things out as he pushed me up.
    I miss him.

It was good to see you posted a new video! Excellent as usual, well narrated with a suggestion for the philosophy of life at the end.
I will allow myself a comment or two.
Surely you know the trick for water ingress stains under varnish, if you sand the area to bare wood applying acetone removes the stain or at the very least will reduce it.
For the green felt, perhaps glue-it under the caddy so the caddy then glides nicely on the varnished table.
I like that caddy idea so much that I think I will build myself one, with the obligatory pipe holder. 🙂
Thank you for a great video.

Great video. Monitoring is one of my favorite pastimes. I have had cutting slots in my mainsail cover for my lazy jacks on my list for 8 years. Having them lift the sides of the sail cover is REALLY unsightly! If I adopt your solution, I can cross it off my list. However, when ever I do store the lazy jacks to the mast, the small Harken bullet blocks bang against the mast. Where/how do you store your lazy jacks when you are at the dock? Thanks, Ron

    • @ChristianWilliamsYachting
      @ChristianWilliamsYachting  Рік тому +1

I don't have blocks on the lazy jacks, Spectra line slips easily enough through thimbles alone. When not deployed, the lazyjacks are tensioned to run along the boom under the sail cover.
