My foot's sore from stompin the floor , this kinda music brings back sweet memories growin up in the country and goin to a bona fide old country church with folks who sang like this ...well done Ms Welch
Last year when these wonderful musicians came to Phoenix, I was delighted and startled. Normally I have to buy plane tickets to hear music this good, and there is no one else at all who makes music like these people.
Beautifully done, old Southern Gospel song, I grew up on this in VA, I love this version of it, even better than the Stattler Bros and the Oak Ridge Brothers version.
Brilliant that David went to double time strumming from his second solo on to the end, making for the closing verse feeling like you were flying away. Just awesome.
I don't think I've ever witnessed an acoustic guitarist as connected to his instrument; it's literally like an extension of his body. And, what amazing chops and drive! That's a cheap old Epifone he found under a pile of sawdust.
@hombre3000 Elvis used to do that a lot. Listen to "Don't" or any of his songs from the famous 1969 Memphis sessions. It was one of his many trademark vocal "tricks".
Either this cat has been watching that lead guitar player for The Milk Carton Kids, or vice versa; but the bottom line is some fine acoustic burning blowing out of both camps ...
This song is timeless, well done. At seventy when you hear a song like this one, you are reminded of precious moments you were singing it, time travel.
I played this song at the end of my Mom’s funeral. I believe she did fly away and certainly would approve. Great version. Artists are often not appreciated. Thank you for such a wonderful version of an amazing hymn.
It is awesome to see these two hold a room in awe of the talent and virtuosity. Two voices, two guitars (or banjo) and great songs that fill a hall. They command the stage.
That controlled "voice crack" (for lack of the real term to describe it) is incredible. Gillian does it here and there . . . holy crap. Whenever she says "away" during the chorus, like at 1:18. G.o.r.g.e.o.u.s.
+m2dad2 Some people don't appreciate music that has religious imagery that they don't subscribe to, is what I would assume. This tune is a hymn/gospel song, however it has been adopted into the repertoire of traditional American old-time and country music, and there is much more here to be appreciated than the religious message itself.... those who write off music like this are truly missing out on a wonderful and beautiful part of American culture.
+m2dad2 I'm an engineer by trade. I born skeptic. Not religious, nor a church goer. But I've seen these two perform on several occasions, and I believe in the voice of God. There is no other explanation. In sorrow, and with sorrowful themes; they bring joy. What else is there?
+Rnickey Lidack It is hard to understand, the thoughts of some folks, it is like trying to do battle with the sea itself, like Caligula is suppose to have done.
+Corin Stedman "much more to appreciate than" the hope of eternal life? I would have to say THAT message dwarfs the fact that it's a hummable toe-tapper that's been kicked around for a few decades :)
UA-cam is my favorite site of all, great music & videos. But this is my #1 above all others most fav of them all - just wish someone had put it out on CD so we mortals could own it (legally - haha) Gillian & Dave MAGIC!
60 years old, absolute best version of this song I've ever heard! both artists compliment each very well, playing and singing!
My foot's sore from stompin the floor , this kinda music brings back sweet memories growin up in the country and goin to a bona fide old country church with folks who sang like this ...well done Ms Welch
Man I can listen to David Rawlings dissonant leads all day long. God that guy is just sick with talent.
Yeah ... it's just ridiculous!
lovely all day long
Couldn't agree more
Why you say dissonant leads? Don’t you mean consonant harmonies? 😊
He is too distracting. I want to hear hee but she likes him so...
I can still hear my great-grandmother singing this song.
Pure music at its finest. I respect these musicians than any other
Last year when these wonderful musicians came to Phoenix, I was delighted and startled. Normally I have to buy plane tickets to hear music this good, and there is no one else at all who makes music like these people.
She does what she loves and she is both beautiful as a person and a musician. It may not be popular but it damn sure is real!
That was seriously gorgeous. Can't beat an all-encompassing harmony pulled off that good LIVE and not be amazing. Bravo!
The chemistry between these to is phenomenal
There music is a blessing for my ears an soul, thanks for sharing im truly a fan.
Beautiful!

Love this!!! Read lots of - over doing it(Dave), camera on Dave, blah blah blah I'm sure neither one suffered from the others excellence!
Either this cat has been watching that lead guitar player for The Milk Carton Kids, or vice versa; but the bottom line is some fine acoustic burning blowing out of both camps ...

Gillian has a special "cry" in her voice. Nobody sings this song better than she does.
I agree, but I also really enjoy the kossoy sisters version as well.
I had thought of the word "crystalline" but I think your term is much better. Thank you
@@pittschapelfarm2844 I'm going with yodel.
This song is timeless, well done. At seventy when you hear a song like this one, you are reminded of precious moments you were singing it, time travel.
if this doesn't give you chills or choke you up thinking about someone who has "flown away," then you have no soul to worry about! Love this version
Goodclips😂😂
Love your name. That’s some powerful medicine sister. This song has always made me bawl. Was me and my grandmas last song.
It’s good to think ppl like Gillian are keeping this traditional music alive. Love it
I played this song at the end of my Mom’s funeral. I believe she did fly away and certainly would approve. Great version. Artists are often not appreciated. Thank you for such a wonderful version of an amazing hymn.

My Mama's song🕊 May 26, 2000
I love Gillian's voice and the way David jams on this beautiful song.
David Rawlings is my favorite acoustic guitar player. I’m reminded of that every time I hear him play.
I love the creative license the lead guitar took with the song, absolutely great version of the song
Some bright morning when this life is over
I'll fly away
To that home on God's celestial shore
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
When the shadows of this life have gone
I'll fly away
Like a bird from these prison walls I'll fly
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
Oh, how glad and happy when we meet
I'll fly away
No more cold iron shackles on my feet
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
Just a few more weary days and then
I'll fly away
To a land where joys will never end
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
I'll fly away

Thank you.
Welch always sings "Some bad morning" stead
Me and my cousins performed this at my grandmothers funereal, it was great.
She's got the voice of an angel.
I'm in love with these two , they affirm what it is to be alive
This blesses my country Christian heart. So may good memories tied to this song! My daddy's gonna fly away soon, I wanna hear this at his funeral.
Absolutely LOVE these two wonderful people. God bless them.
It is awesome to see these two hold a room in awe of the talent and virtuosity. Two voices, two guitars (or banjo) and great songs that fill a hall. They command the stage.

One of the most transformation sounds I have ever heard. She takes me to places most humbly indestructible.
I love it - It does not get better than this.
