    I had a R22 in 1981. Flew 5 years and 1000 hours and no problems Then a Bell 206 for a year then back back to the R22. I still love the R22 May, Frank rest in peace.

    Excellent clear instruction. I learnt all this doing lessons in the R22 years ago but it’s now easier to learn first here than in a noisy cockpit.... and you can play it again without shouting “What??!!...”

      I I learned to fly these in Bristow Academy in New Iberia Louisiana a few years ago. I admit, they are sensitive with the controls but its also the most reliable bird in its size. they are not bad once you get the hang of it. if you can fly these then you can fly any of them

    great video , who on earth ever thought that the throttle on a helicopter should work backwards , be tricky if you rode a bike to work as a pilot.

    • @rovers141
      @rovers141 2 роки тому +1

      Seems to me like it's the same, actually. If you were able to turn in the seat and face the collective, you would roll the throttle forward to increase rpm just like you would on a bike. In both cases if you roll the throttle towards your knuckles you are gaining rpm, and if you roll the throttle towards your thumb you are losing rpm. Or maybe I'm missing something here?

    I see that since the R22 uses a piston engine it requires a clutch to disengage the engine from the rotor while starting. Does a turbine engine need a clutch or is it always connected to the rotor?

      The R22 is classed as a 'Light helicopter' - but even so, it is still a complex flying machine. As with all aircraft, pre startup checks, and engine start should always be completed methodically and carefully. You don't need a 'fast' startup.

    Flight-for-Life pilot failed to check hydraulics when 2 feet above surface. Continued ascent, then discovered something was not working properly. Helicopter crashed. Pilot died. Flight nurse severely burned.
    I would forget things or perform in wrong order. Would need check list.

    • @RureLyther

      Always use a check list in my opinion

    • @lalacrypto1
      @lalacrypto1 4 роки тому

      Yeah, you are supposed to use a check list for preflight and starting. They probably use them at their school, just didn't show it. If the FAA ramp checks you and sees you are not using a checklist, you get in trouble.

    I don't know anything about helicopters but why is there a diesel engine in yours lol

    • @ninemilliondollars
      @ninemilliondollars 4 роки тому

      Probably to keep down cost or weight or both since this is a small helicopter. Regarding the diesel engine on Robinson helicopters the engine runs around 2,500 rpm. It develops 200-300 HP at that low rpm because of such high torque (like a large truck that pulls a heavy load). And that HP is enough to fly the craft. :D

    • @lalacrypto1
      @lalacrypto1 4 роки тому

      It's cheaper to fly. It's very common to fly R22s and R44s in flight school because it saves you money. And R44s are common to use post school because they cost less than a turbine and still seat 3 people plus the pilot.

    • @newjerseydetailing2487
      @newjerseydetailing2487 4 роки тому +2

      Its not a diesel engine. They make 128 horse power, and 132 horse power for 5 minute maximum performance. The engine run on 100 octane low lead.
