I think the best way to determine if a team scouts and develops players well is how many international players and deeper round players that arent over slot they produce. Scouting is mostly top rounds and over slot players. If Maroudis hits, its scouting. If O'Halloran hits, its development. If Sam Shaw hits, both. Ultimately it does rest on players and circumstance of course.
Rogers made 6b profit in 2023, a 30% increase. No team owner has that yearly income generated, though some owners may 'have' more money. There are no money concerns if they see a real window. Clearly it was worth getting under the tax this season, hopefully they intend to splurge. On a lux tax note, perhaps Votto was kept off the roster in order to ensure they stayed under the tax. It makes no sense that they didn't activate him for Cin...unless they are afriad of the cap hit.
I am with Scott - I'm for the Dodgers and I am have changed completely - I didn't WANT it to be this set of teams, but now that it is happening, I'm excited about it. When I realized it was 1981 when the last time these teams met, I realized my prejudice was not based on facts.
There must be another guy, somewhere in mlb who once had high potential but has long since lost his sparkle. Surely if such a guy exists, this is the kind of trade that gets us out of the manoah situation. Find an equivalent, suggest to the team that swapping these 2 "potential stars" could benefit both and then really we can't blame anyone but ourselves if manoah works out whoever we pick up doesn't... Just a thought!
I do hate seeing Yankees and BoSox hats out here in Alberta, because you know those are terrible people and are likely on some sort of list. But in actual seriousness, I do have Pirates, Reds and Brewers hats but everyone knows those are esthetic choices.
The irony of Rogers paying out $1.3B to $1.6B is that they wouldn't even notice the money. That's chump change from them. Shohei's deferral contract is a manipulation of the system so I don't see why your suggestion wouldn't be legal. Interesting stuff.
In the US, rockets candies are called Smarties for US viewers.
For the purposes of the CBT assessment, the average of the players salary per year is used in the calculation of the taxes applied in each year.

I don't feel like checking but I think the Mets have Barry Bonilla's salary in their CBT calculations.
Yeah 100% not how it works or you would see every contract being structured so all the salary is on a single year.

HR's get it done, grand slam

The Canadian government agencies which regulate public utility companies would definitely notice, though.
