People are missing the point on Kim by obsessing on Kim's drop in stolen bases in the 2024 season when he had considerably fewer plater appearances. The point is Kim has speed and is a smart baserunner, which are key ingredients for manufacturing runs that the Jays have often been desperate for. Kim offers a better option as a leadoff hitter than the aging Springer, and would likely be the team leader in stolen bases. The Jays' analytics department seems to put a damper on the Jays' running game, but Kim has the capability and would give the team that option if they choose to utilize that strategy. Kim also won a Gold Glove and the MLBPAA Heart & Hustle Award, in case that hasn't been mentioned. He brings a lot to the team that signs him.
If its a repeat of last offseason, i would accept a rebuild. Although, only if ownership recognizes Ross isn’t the guy to complete the tear down. However, I can’t imagine ownership will accept a rebuild as they just spent millions on the renovations and need butts in seats.
Agree with everything you said except for butts in the seats. Most of their revenue is generated by broadcasting. TV and Internet are by far the largest revenue streams.
Rebuild started last offseason. They’ve let every free agent go, then, & since. & then promoted the entire triple A roster. It’s getting a little strange that this fan base hasn’t noticed.
@@markryan3739 Rogers Sports & Media are even making a little extra on the broadcasting, since they're giving the Blue Jays a smaller cut so the team pays less money to MLB revenue sharing.
The renovations were a capital improvement project to a real estate property owned by Rogers Sports & Media. If a rebuild makes sense for the long term success of the Blue Jays, a rebuild could still be acceptable.
7:23 - "Sending Jordan Roman packing" is being overdramatic. All the Blue Jays front office did was non-tender Romano because the raise Romano would receive in arbitration would be greater than his on-field value. This is good business practice, since $8M is way too much to pay Romano in 2025. Now that Romano can test the free agent market, the Blue Jays can still offer him a more reasonably priced contract, likely full of performance-based bonuses if he can stay healthy. Romano's 2024 resembled Kirby Yate's 2020, and we saw what happened with Yates in 2021. It's good to see the Jays learned from that experience.
Our farm system rank went up after the deadline, didn't it? That includes losing top 100 status of Ricky and OMart, who are no less the players they were when they were each dropped 50+ spots... regardless of why.
@DepthFromAbove our number #18 prospect has fans shouting 'second baseman of the future'. Are there really 17 prospects in our system better than Will Wagner? (His age hurts that argument a little tho) When we had a 'good farm' we were able to get Berrios, Hicks, Pop and Bass, (needed at the time) and Chapman with essentially garbage 'top' prospects, all because the system was favorably ranked. Everytime LA trades 2 top 10 prospects (who end up nowhere) for a game changing talent..I shake my head lol
Matt Chapman would have led us in SBs this season...except he didnt hustle for us.. As far as Kim, I dont think the jays solidify 2nd yet. There are some decent options next off season...like Arraez.
Toronto's running game is lame. Looking at Chapman's stolen bases in 2024 (15) surprised me, since that shattered his career season high he set in Toronto (4). It's so weird seeing that Chapman's new team, the Giants, were ranked 29th in stolen bases for 2024, and Chapman had 15 of the Giants' 68 stolen bases.
@Dulcimerist I know. I noticed it in August/September, I had to double check. He never gave us that level of intensity.. Tho, that's team philosophy if he is running that much. I can see the Jays not trusting him to go at will .
@@eshep71 I have a feeling the Blue Jays analytics department puts a damper on stolen base attempts. He did steal more bases during his two years in Toronto than in his five years in Oakland. The Giants were so bad at stealing bases, I guess Chapman needed to step up and be that guy.
Bummed that the Jays didn’t get Kikuchi back. That said, his immediate massive improvement in Houston makes me question on the “Pete Walker, pitcher whisperer.” talk that I’ve heard for years. (Kikuchi’s improvement and the fact that we had the worst bullpen in baseball last year.) My friends and I have reverted to calling the bullpen “the Playpen”.
Kikuchi's best stretch of games in 2024 was in April through mid-May, when the Blue Jays were still in it and morale was hopeful. Kikuchi seems to perform better when he's in a winning atmosphere, where he feels that his contributions aren't being wasted. Good point about the Blue Jays bullpen. The Toronto pen allowed 64% of Kikuchi's bequeathed runners to score, while Houston's pen only allowed 33%.
The obvious answer here, is that they’re a rebuilding team that isn’t going to upgrade the bullpen. Not compete. If they’re signing 36 year old arms in decline to pair with a bunch of average triple A kids, then they’ve even failed at that. Atkins has tried 3 different team philosophies. All hitting, all pitching & defence, & cheap youngsters. & it’s getting worse. The only real solution that I see, is time. &or new management. Soto isn’t happening. That’s ridiculous.
10 year contract for Bo? Bo is as likely past his prime as he is going to return to form. His sprint speed and arm strength have been in decline and he is 26. 26! 26!!! Dude is falling apart. Leg injuries flat out cut careers short in baseball. Next year hip injury, then back injury the year after, then knee again and done.
Loved Jaystalk89 comments about Adam. He's the ultimate wildcard on every discussion. "Wildcard B1tch35, Yeehaw!" - Charlie Day

It maybe went up a hair, but it's still a bottom third farm.
Not really, man.

Same! :)

Scott and Adam, your riff on Ha-Seong Kim and his base stealing ability was gold.
Do the jays trades vladdy if they don't get Soto or anyone big
Yep, and Bo, and anybody else that will return a prospect. I'm including 30 year olds playing in double A as a prospect.
i don't think so. There is an argument for it, but this front office does not have the guts for that.

Going to a much better team will make your stats better.
