    1911 vs. Glock is kind of like comparing a Zippo to a Bic. They both do the same thing and the Zippo will require a little more upkeep on your part but the feel and the sound and the history can't be compared. I appreciate them both but I just love the old heavy piece of steel.

      possibly the best comparison i have ever heard, would make sense coming from someone with a clear sense of good weaponry (ccw .357 mag here)

      357magman I carry the Glock 27 because I like the power of a .45 but the speed and penetration of a 9mm so the .40 fits perfect. But my 27 weights 21oz unloaded and the normal 1911 weighs 39oz unloaded.
      The 1911 is around 8.6" long and my Glock is only 6.4" long.
      It's compact when I need it to be and if I need I can pop in a 15rd mag and it then has a full size grip.
      Or if I want I can pop in a 32rd mag and have plenty of ammo.
      My Glock is also 1.18" wide and the 1911 is 1.34" on average.
      Coming from about 20 years of shooting and shooting all kinds of pistols the Glock has to be my favorite for numerous reasons.
      I've had plenty of 1911's that will not feed cheap ammo reliably, collects dirt and powder way to easy, and I absolutely hate hammers on guns. I don't want an external hammer for anything.
      My only gun I have never once had an issue out of so far is my Glocks. My Rugers, Kimbers, and Sig's i've had stove pipes and misfeeds but my Glocks even with 1,000 in one shooting session not one single issue.
      I like shooting 1911's for fun but not for everyday carry and especially conceal.

    I carried a 1911 more than 50 years ago, on duty during the Vietnam War. In recent years I bought a 1911, but I thought it was heavy to carry, and chose some lighter guns for concealed carry. Then I started developing recoil sensitivity due to some old injuries to my hands, then later started getting arthritis pain in my trigger finger. I experimented with a lot of handgun types and calibers, eventually going all the way down to a .22 LR for concealed carry. Then out of curiosity I decided to fire my Kimber Micro 9 again, and was surprised to find the recoil pain was much lower than I expected, presumably because of the narrow grip. So I then decided to try my full size all steel 1911 again, and was very surprised that the recoil really didn’t hurt at all. It is a Kimber Custom TLE ii, so it also has a very smooth trigger. And I tried more ways of concealed carry, and have found several that allow me to carry for an active 12 hour day without too much discomfort. So I am once again a happy 1911 shooter, and my accuracy keeps getting better despite my medical issues.

      Have both, the glock is a tool. The 1911 is a work of art. Pleasure to shoot goes to the 1911. Looks goes to the 1911. For me, manual of arms goes to the 1911. OTOH, SHTF durability VS todays target model 1911s, goes to the glock. (OTOH, if you have a GI 1911 - those were made to far more loose tolerances - I'd call it a tie.)

    Got my first 1911 back in 1974 and it's NEVER had a failure to fire after countless trips to the range. Mine is the Remington Rand model from WW2 and very accurate. It's a historical piece that likely saw real action. It will be passed down to my daughter since she enjoys shooting it.

    It all comes down to personal preference. How many of us are actually going to use our guns in a defensive situation? VERY LOW. Most shooting is done at paper targets, trying to shoot tighter groups, as shooting is a hobby. So I believe you should own something you feel comfortable with, that you enjoy to shoot, and that you shoot accurately. One is not better than the other. I know many glock owners who can't hit the broad side of a barn with all 15 shots, and I know some 1911 owners that can hit you at 25 yards with a single shot.

Yet someone will bring up the 1911 and the fact that the 1911 is even in the debate after over a century of service? Truly AMAZING! Still, that dude in Austria who made curtain rods created what I believe is the best pistol one can find today and I have owned both 1911's and Glocks. .45 huh? Incredible. The feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen... The slide's been reinforced, and the interlock with the frame is tightened for added precision. The sight system is original too. The thumb safety is extended to make it easier on the finger... a long type trigger with non-slip grooves... A ring hammer... The base of the trigger guard's been filed down for a higher grip. And not only that, nearly every part of this gun is expertly crafted and customized.

      Most self defensive use of firearms involves pistols being fired 3 times, from 3m or less, in 3 seconds or less.

    I love my 1911s and the Glocks are good tools. Saying that, I bought 4 high end 1911s in the last 2 weeks, ranging from $2K - $3800. They include a STI, Nighthawk, Wilson and Guncrafter. Three are having function and various QC issues. Two are already back for repair. I've been trying to get a return label for the Guncrafter for two days, and the Wilson has a 2 month lead time. Not super happy with the QC issues, but I have many 1911s I do love..some collectors, some competition, and some carry pieces. My take on carrying the 1911 is that you must train regularly with it in order to maintain muscle memory for the safety, and for speed reloads, which you better be fast at because 9 rounds runs dry faster than most people think in a gun fight. A 1911 will require more maintenance than a Glock. 1911s are in general more likely to have failures do to lack of lube, dirt, as well as springs, extractors ect. getting out of proper tune due to use. Maybe if I start shootings action comps again with the 1911/2011 platform I'll carry one again, but for now my EDC is the Glock 21.

    I can not deny the reliability, weight and other pros of the Glock, who can? But that being said I'll still grab a 1911 over a Glock any day, any time. In the heat of the moment you gotta use what you know, like and train most with. I have all the confidence in 1911s. Im not a wild 1911 fanboy, Im well aware of its cons. It all comes down to personal preference regardless of what the pros/cons sheet says. In defense of the 1911s age, capacity, weight etc etc, its still around today for a reason. How many older gun designs have come and gone? Several and some completely forgotten. The 1911 not only endures but flourishes in todays market. Love it or accept it, you cant hate it or deny it. Same goes with the Glock.

We lined up in the roll call room and held out our revolver, cylinder empty & open, and the sergeant inspected it for proper care. In the ‘80s we transitioned to the Glock 23 and while uniform inspections continued, no more inspection of the issued weapon except during semi annual qualification at the range.

    My preference,based on my experience with both weapons, would be the 1911. I carried the 1911 in the Marines from 1976-82. This was my first experience with handguns so I have that sense of familiarity. I first heard good things of the Glock in the mid80's and was open minded. In 1987 I was attending a FBI firearms instructor class and a fellow student was carrying a Glock 17. While on the line the Glock went full auto when he fired his first shot. He pointed it at the ground until the mag was empty. Not impressed. In 1996 my SWAT team was T&Eing a Glock 40.sw which exploded while being fired. The eye protection saved his vision and particles had to be removed from his cheers. Additionally, during some SWAT operations I have found it necessary to "pistol whip" combative suspects with my 1911. The metal magazine well was clearly effective to achieve pain compliance . I don't believe the polymer Glock frame would have be as effective. I carry a 1911 today. I'm aware that Glock has rectified these functionality problems and is today a excellent firearm, I never experienced such issues with any 1911. This is just my experience and preference, yours may be different.

I still think that design is the best, feels good in the hand and points naturally to me, just not as many rounds as a double stack. But, I also like the Glock. I've got about three thousand rounds through a 23 with no failures at all with all kinds of ammo (over about ten years). No failures with my 27 either. Still like the 1911 better though. Like they say YMMV.

      Oldschool doesn't mean better.
      Glocks are more affordable, lighter, more reliable, and have higher ammo capacities (even their ccw models). Plus they have more varieties in ammo and size.
      1911s are more expensive, heavier, less reliable, and are always limited to 7 rounds a mag.
      Sure, 1911s are prettier and have that oldschool classic nature to it. They will always be more impressive to own and beautiful to look at, but if we're comparing them objectively for a combat situation, a Glock always wins, even if it's not as pretty.

  • @Mildcat743
    @Mildcat743 9 років тому +11

    Everyone brings up the grip angle argument, but I have another one relating to the grip. Double stack vs. single stack mags. The Glocks are double stacked and while you have more ammo on tap, for someone who is smaller in general, they can't get a good grip on the firearm. The 1911 is thinner and thus easier to get a firmer grip on it.

    I think the dif. in width is in relation to the mag. size...Single stack vs. dbbl. stack. Which also has an effect on grip size. Glock is much wider due to it's dbbl. stack mag.
    For CQ I like the new Colt Defender, also in .45 ACP, but only has a 3.5 inch barrel with ergonomic grips...
    Steel vs. polymer? Let's see how a Glock fairs in another 60 years...

    Old guy here. A plastic gun just didn't seem right when they came out. I have had 2 1911s, a CZ75, Browning High power, Smith & Wesson 3rd generation auto and a few others. None of them have been as reliable, goes bang every time, does not rust, is accurate
    As the Glock 17 I carry every day. It is lighter too.

      I am sure Glocks have parts that can rust. You're right they are lighter and easier to indulge, especially when cleaning. I lied your observation.

    I would get a 1911 because they are sooooooo pretty. The only 1911 I can have though (in the UK) is a LBP a .22 with a "coathanger" stock and an extra long barrel. I might just get an airsoft replica that looks the same, They just look great, a beautiful piece of engineering.

      jeff ouellette It doesn't matter to me, I am not allowed a functioning 1911 unless it is a LBP (Long barrelled pistol 22lr) I just love the aesthetics of the gun - If I could get a real one though, I would probably go for a custom job,. I don't intend to go to war with it, I just love the looks.

    I owned 3 glocks before shooting a 1911. Before the 1911, I thought I was a glock guy. I did end up getting a 1911 and I would happily sell all my glocks to get a few more of them. Very fun vid to watch, btw.

      I have both the 21 and a 1911 and love both. I’m kinda the odd man out there lol. But if I had to pick one as my side arm in a firefight it would be the glock just for sheer capacity and field stripping capability. Which my 1911 has 8+1 I know they make 1911s with more but that’s what I have. Great gun, but I’ll take the higher capacity lol. As far as accuracy goes, they’re both pretty much the same for me. 4-6 inch grouping at 25 yards without taking too much time, so I can’t hate on that. If I take my time then it’s somewhere in the ballpark of 1-1.5 inch grouping for both guns, so yeah. Also I think the glock has a much smoother action than my 1911 but that might simply be because my 1911 was made in the 70s, so the wear factor could be an issue there.

  • @mikehhedt
    @mikehhedt Рік тому +2

    I think they are both wonderful pieces, but there is something beautiful about that 1911. It’s heavy, but the vibration from shooting it and recoil seem to be controlled by the weight. But either one is a win in my book. They’ll outlast us with proper care.

    Great comparison video.I subscribed to your channel.I like the way you(unlike so many others)don't swear by one particular gun while swearing at another.When you have a quality firearm it really is pretty much subjective/personal preference and you are smart enough to realize this.I also like the way you don't act like some know it all.While I'm a 1911 man I still like my Glock 23 and 30 and plan on getting a Glock 21 and HK USP.45.I look forward to watching the rest of your videos.You are one of the few gun channels I subscribe to and watch because you do non biased comparisons and don't act like a jackass.Keep up the good work.I look forward to watching the rest of your vids.Can you do one on the HK USP.45?

    No comparison whats so ever.. The abilities of a 1911 platform can't be matched. 102 yrs long of tradition and history, used all over the world, even by many countries Military, elite special forces groups, swats teams, shooting competitions, you name it. Glocks are good, reliable handguns and that can't be denied, however. 1911 is on a whole different level.

  • @craigthescott5074

    I’ve shot both extensively and carried both as a patrol officer in a major city in the US. I collect and shoot 1911’s in competition. My 1911’s are my go to guns. My Glock 21’s stay in my cars cause I’d rather my Glocks get stolen than my 1911’s. John Browning invented dozens of popular weapons, guns we still use today, he was the Einstein of the gun world. Gaston Glock invented one gun. There’s no comparison for me. One is a tool one is a work of art.

    The 1911 is a highly respectable firearm, but modern day plastic firearms are superior. More durable, higher ammo capacity, more accessories. You just can’t beat that.

  • @ModernCivilWar

    I've always been a fan of both guns. Growing up as a kid I remember seeing guns and ammo magazines and seeing the 1911. Then I started seeing the glock my grandpa was in ww2 and he hated the glock. Called it plastic and said it's a shitty gun. Now 20 years later or so and glock is very popular, reliable, and imo the new American standard. The 1911 will always have a special place in my heart. But when it comes to battle and being reliable I will go with the glock all day for many reasons. I still carry my 1911 around though on the property with a glock in the truck sometimes

      +pdog305301 I have the 1911 and Glock 21 both! In my opinion they both do justice. I feel like its just self preference really. I don't look at the 1911 as vintage more like a veteran...Been there done that type of pistol appose to the Glock 21 is the young grass hopper lmao I carry both and shoot both so not really choosing a side. They both are beautifully made and shoot buttery smooth. LOL

    • @AManavian
      @AManavian 8 років тому +19

      +pdog305301 If your enemy had a Glock, they would have 5 more shots to YOUR center-of-mass before you get close enough to beat them with your steel.
      OR
      They would just draw the lighter gun faster and put the first round in you faster
      OR
      Your gun might jam, while the Glock is way more reliable.
      Overall, all things being equal, the Glock owner has all the cards and is more likely to bring down the 1911 owner.

    I have a Glock 31C and a Kimber 1911 in 45 APC. Up until recently I would have picked the 1911 over the Glock, but recently I picked up a 9mm barrel for the Glock in addition to the 40 S&W and the 357 SIG barrels I already had. This gives me the capability of firing everything from hardcast 200gr in 40 to a 65gr solid copper bullet moving at 2000 fps plus in 357 SIG. Also the Glock has night sights and a Surefire weapon light I use at home.The 9mm barrel will fire subsonic rounds that won't kill your eardrums indoors and allows shooting cheap and comfortable ammo for practice.
