- 100 years later it is still going strong!! Thank You, John Browning! I've enjoyed it myself for over a quarter century.
Hope you enjoy a visit with this old "War Horse." This one actually went to war for us.

Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
What a beautiful piece of steel. As a UK reenactor with a stack of licenses for firearms, shotguns and black powder, I'm keenly aware that I'm more privileged than my countrymen, but at the same time, I'd love to be able to have the freedom that lets you do this. An interest in firearms is not an interest in violence or killing- it's an interest in history, engineering, human ingenuity, and self-defence.
Come to Tennessee and live brother. We build our own gun ranges at home ^
unless you like killing people
TheOldNorth why not come here in the US the best Gun friendly states I would recommend would be Texas, Utah, North Carolina, Arizona, and Tennessee. What ever you do please avoid living in Commiefornia, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Detroit and other anti gun states.
Finally a British man that understands, no racism intended
Michigan's and upstate NY gun laws aren't that bad, and even if you live in anti gun states you can still buy and own a firearm, I would stay in the UK if you have the ability to obtain certian firearms though
Hundred years old technology/design that still works today.....simply amazing!

"Thank You, John Browning!"
Yes indeed, thank you John Browning and thank you Hickok and John for another fine video.
Teen celebrity scandal
John Browning. Changed the gun world forever.
my grandfather was in the army and that was his favorite gun colt 45 1911, he never left home without it!!
This video never gets old. Gotta love these old carried 1911A1s!!!
You are an unbelievable marksman dude. I've seen all your videos. Really enjoy them.
"watch me miss" hits dead center. Epic.
Well Hickok45 that old girl still sings her battle song quite well. Kudos to you on your Marksmanship. I had an Ithaca 1911A1 and those sights and I were not friends. Oh these aging eyes. Well sir 11 years after your video and yet the 1911 45 ACP remains a timeless icon to many of us out here. All the best to you.
GOD BLESS THE 1911 GOD BLESS AMERICA AND AUSTRALIA
cool bro!
Casey C well you can get a gun license in Australia. If you wanted to buy a gun from another Country, let's say America, you'll have to go to the customs too show your gun license on the day it arrives. But go on the customs regulations on importing gun.
Casey C dunno how ya worked that out buddy..im an Aussie and ive an even dozen mixed calibre firearms in my safe..if i want one of these lovely old cannons all i have to do is join a pistol club,,go through a training period and im in ..
my pop always told me ''its better to keep your mouth closed and appear ignorant, than to open it and remove all doubt''.. :)
nice helmet , what are you supposed to be a space cadet mate?.. Now whos LFMAO..
Steven Best best wishes from oz mate
Best UA-cam Channel. No intro no outro. No annoying background music. Great camerawork nice guns
This is the best example of 'if it's not broke, don't fix it'.
Customize to your needs, but the design is the same. Sweet.
My Dad carried carried a 1911 in WWII. He was a top notch airplane mechanic. My Dad never saw any action unlike my uncle Stavros who was in Patton's third army and fought from France to the Check border. My uncle Steve was a frogman who got blown up at Normandy and spent 6 months in a hospital afterwards. My uncle Al was a typist. They gave the recruits extensive physical tests, intelligence tests and aptitude tests and placed them accordingly. They hit that one spot on! My dad could fix anything, Stavros was big and tough, Steve a great athlete, and Al was a quiet 5'-4" man.
Hickok shooting a 1911 with a glock cap, interesting
Pioneer. Legend. Handsome. Powerful. Classic. A muscled dog ready to fight even in the modern warfare. The iconic pistol made by one of the best gun designers of all times, Mr. Browning.
Great way to start the year !!
Have a great 2011 !!
Looking forward to what you have in store for the new year
You never got a like or a comment and it’s been 10 years!
I've watched all your 1911 videos, and this A1 is the best looking, to my eyes. All that history in the wear and use marks.
Wonderful gun! I have a 1911 manufactured in 1939. My 1911 has mother pearl grips!
My father was an armorer in the Korean War and he was responsible for maintaining and repairing a great many of this very weapon. He never ceased being in awe of the brilliant design and reliability of the 1911. He taught me a great deal about it's inner workings also. I can't look at one of these fine weapons without fondly remembering my father God rest his soul, Thanks Hickock for this video. It meant a great deal to me.
Who's here from April 13 2020 video celebrating the 20th Anniversary of him owning this master piece?
July 19 2020 interesting video.
Hellyeah
Mr. Hickok, I love all of your videos!! I also appreciate the time you take to make them, and sharing your knowledge on all these BEAUTIFUL firearms. Again, THANK YOU!!
Just getting into firearms and I am amazed at how these great guns have been around for so long.
Watch all your videos and unfortunately as far as my wife is concerned I want to buy all of them.
Thanks for this great channel
That was awesome when you could see the bullets hitting the gong! That 1911 is beautiful. scratches scuffs and all. Great video!
M1911-A1 is the best
YEAHHHHHH
I brought one in 1992 using my collector license. My was made by Remington Rand in New York and reworked by Rock Island Arsenal with sign of some chipped on frame and reparkerized. I paid $440.00 and still have it. I will sell them before I die.
A classic. I love myself a Glock, but when you got a battle proven antique sidearm with you what’s not to love.
Thank you sir. It is a joy and a priveledge to watch your vids and to see you shoot. You have reminded me that my guns have sat in the gun safe wayyy to long!
My great grandfather was an artillery spotter and they were going through some German occupied village they shelled and he saw a German soldier running from a building and jokingly he lobbed off around from 50 yards or so and he accidentally shot the guy in the helmet and it knocked the guy out cold and they interrogated and sent him to a POW camp
Wow, something similar happened to my great grandfather during WW2. He was passing through one of the German villages as well and shot at a German soldier, however he missed. Luckily, the bullet flew into Hitler's bunker and actually killed Hitler, ending the WW2 in Europe! How cool is that?
That's pretty neat!
Sofair Hitler commited suicide xD but your version of hitlers death was also a nice one xD
Since were getting into war stories...
My grampa was a army ranger in korea and they found a dead korean soldier floating in the river and he pulled the body over to look at his face and accidentally pulled his arm off it was so soft
and then everyone clapped
Your a real life badass hickok45. I wish there were more people like you in this world. Smart man with good sense of interest.
This is my year to pick up one. I may start with a nice priced Rock Island .45.........loved this video. I haven't shot a .45 since my Navy days.
Buy the auto ordnance one 100% american made and it cost about the same and my is proven because I've shot tons through it it looked like the one about it is a exact replica of the ww2 ones
***** Whatever works.
Try a Ruger SR1911. I have the commander version. It's a great gun at a fair price and 100% American made!
I just got the Ruger. Very nice
Rock Island...great gun...
Hickok your videos are always fun to watch and educating. It's also nice to see all your commentators are kind spirited as well. The one place where no one is fighting in the comment section on youtube.
Colt 45 1911, the sexiest pistol on the planet, lol.
One of the most beautiful handguns ever made.
8:30 WOW!!! Ive never seen Hickok miss that much!
Heavy trigger !
These WW 1911's are my single most favorite gun. Simple, yet elegant. Browning = genius.
If this piece was issued during WWII, it is at least 70 years old! Looking at hickok45's cap, i just wonder if a 70-year old polymer pistol e.g. Glock 19 could be demonstrated in the same way in 2070s.
thank you hickok, it was because of you that i got my 1911.. keep it up....
btw rock island has an amazing 1911... i purchased one for 400 dollars new.. amazing striped down 1911 a1. good budget 1911
Man that guy can shoot. He seems more accurate with a 45 auto than a rifle
You are the best Mr.Hickok. thanks for another great show.
I just purchased the S&W, .45, 1911 E Series Stainless, 5". I love this gun and love the 1911 gun! Thanks for your video.
Stephen Deac Pretty sure they use a series 80 firing pin setup, yeah?
I think scratches and wear on an old gun is just as appealing as a flawless finish on a brand new one. A 1911 pulls off that worn look better than any other handgun. Good find.
I just simply can't believe how good of a shot you are :O respect!
I watched this video some years ago, but really enjoyed watching the re-run. Thanks again guys. It's so good for the soul!
An old Army 1911 is not capable of that kind of accuracy. I know because that's what they always told us. :) They also told us the new M-16 would blow a charging enemy 10 feet backwards.
+MrTdw1954 There are SO many myths about firearms. Once they get started, they get repeated over and over. A couple of the biggest and most widely "believed" have to do with the amazing "stopping power" of the .45 ACP and the horrible accuracy of the 1911. Makes for great "gunshop talk."
+hickok45 Hello Mr Hickok. I would like to agree and disagree with your statement. I love 1911 style pistols. Never shot a WW2 vintage one, but I have shot newer ones. I would say, if your sights arnt off, they are pretty accurate, and when it comes to ball ammunition the 1911 is definitely better than the 9mm. And, in my opinion, the 1911 is way cooler and much better than any other pistol of ww2. Keep up the good work! love your vids!;)
+hickok45 tom hanks blew a tank up with one of those
+The5thduke As he was shooting at it the Mustangs flew over and dropped bombs on them right as he ran out of bulles.
+CWMORGAN 4240 I'm pretty sure he was joking.
Thank you Hickok45 for entertaining me with all of your videos, i prefer them over TV anyday!
@dills2403 , I used to cast some bullets, but it's pretty time-consuming. I get more accuracy that I can use with just about any pistol ammo available.
I really enjoy your videos. I was on a Navy pistol team at NAS Jacksonville in 1974 and bought a 1911 from a local gun shop that same year. I used that 1911 in competition and did OK. Paid $ 150.00 for it (could have also bought a M1 Garand for the same price, but couldn't afford both). When I spoke with the Master Chief at the range, he noted the serial number and said that the gun was manufactured in 1918. Darn, I wish I had that gun now.
Due to hard times had to sell that gun about 1978.
@robsteries , Just as often as we can! :-) Many of us thoroughly enjoy both guns AND history.
you are the MAN! i enjoy your 1911 video's, thanks!!!!!
Carried one of these for five years as a lieutenant in the Marines. would trust it over any other handgun
Mine was put together by a Marine Armorer in Nam for my CO. He let me have it before I got discharged. I'll cherish it forever, my CO was a full bird and here he let an E-4 have that gun. Wonderful man, commanded respect, ready to teach. The weapon is my favorite.
What about 15 round 9mm handgun they approve in year 1986
JMB's master creation. That gun is beautiful and still shoots great.
I have a Colt 1911 A1 made in 43 with the inspectors initials and proof marks stamping, its in 95% condition and all the parts are matching per Clawson. its a shooter and I break it out once a year, there is nothing else like it and this one will stay with the family !!!
sand man I picked up that same gun at a estate sale. New in the box for $200.00 still full of grease. Sold it to a collector for $3500.00 . I have 2 WW2 shooters so was taking up room in the safe. Used the money to buy a bigger safe .
I could watch this video on repeat. Soothes the soul.
Sir I've found your channel. Very awesome and informative. I wanted to ask, have you served in the military?
Thanks. Scroll through the FAQ Video playlist; it's the one Playlist that is pretty much up to date. :-)

+young fella
I think it is slang.
I don't know, but just sayin'
thank you hickok, it was because of you that i got my 1911.. keep it up....
Sir, what's the distance at 7:30?
80 yards
Your 1911 videos are part of the reason I went ahead and bought one, 1911-A1 GI style, basic no frills 1911 for a reasonable price. Can't wait to start loading for it and have some fun.
he's wearing a glock hat and shooting a 1911 lol
Is. You. Going. To. Get. Me. One
The failure of the slide to lock back on an empty mag is usually the result of a weak magazine spring. Hickok will correct me if I'm wrong. I hope.
That is some shooting, im from the UK and that gun is the greatest.
The difference is that channel is not only shooting, also is history
The 1911 is far from perfect. But damn isn't it pretty.
Time and technology marches on but I have to say that the 1911 is just a masterpiece of engineering from that era. I've owned a few but my favorite is a Springfield GI model (basically a 1911-A1 in the military style). Doesn't have great sights, but I love it. It's big and heavy for a handgun these days but It's still the first one I pull out when I inspect my handguns. John Browning, to me, is one of if not THE most important pioneer of firearms technology.
Omg you can see the bullets.
Yeahh the 230 GRAIN FMJ ball ammo has a 900 feet per second speed rate!! A BIG, HEAVY, BIG WOUND PROJECTILE FOR SURE!!
Hickok45 you're the best. I actually had a 1911A1 ( made by Remington Rand of Ithica NY in Aug. of 1944-friend researched it) given to me by a friend who's Dad past away. His Father was a former PT Boat commander and had had the weapon oiled and stored in it's holster for @ 50 years. It was this weapon that started my passsion for the 1911. AnywayI bought a cleaning kit learned manual of arms etc. Then my buddy said he had nothing of his Father to remember him by... I gave it back of course.
DAMN I DO LOVE THE VINTAGE CANTEEN CUP FULL OF 230 GRAIN FMJ SLUGS!!!
I just bought my 1911 and it was the smartest buy I have done, end of story perfect for me all the way around, mines chrome I love it
How come the slide locks open after the last shot sometimes, but not all the time?
Bad mag
came from the 20th aniver. video in 2020 ! hearing him welcome the new year 2011 sounds funny, 9y ago ! time flies.
What happened near the serial number?
BTW, I have a WW I 1911.
It looks like the "Government Property" got scratched off. Before I moved to USA, I was given a PM Makarov and had the government mark removed.
Probably to avoid confusion?
***** Yes, thanks.
go to 3:50...and ...listen.
If I could find any firearm Hickok has at a gun show for a decent price it would be a vintage ww2 1911. Gorgeous.
"The Yankee Fist" turns 100... it's almost like shooting a national monument.
i also inherited a 1911. I carry it with me in the Caribbean. It can shoot for weeks before needing maintenance. A true work horse. good luck. be sure to take care of that barrel.
Epic masterpiece
1911 will always be my 1st Love...❤️ God Bless Hickok45 and more 1911's too shoot 👌
this ole geezer got the best aim I've ever seen
Love your channel, hickok45.!! I am a revolver nut myself, but I love the 1911 .45. It's a fav of mine :)
i have a WWII 1911made by ithaca in very good condition
Jake Collyer k
Jake Collyer Glocks and 1911 are my top 2 pistols
+Jake Collyer i have a hi point
i have always wanted a 1911 and i figured that 2011 was a good time to get one, i bought myself a early Xmas present and i gotta tell ya, if you are looking for a budget 1911 you cant go wrong with a Metro arms American classic II $425 new in box , 1 mag, skeletonized hammer, adjustable trigger (2 LBS pull) excellent sights, wood grips, blued finish, nice beaver tail and it shoots like a champ. so far i have put 100 round through it and no malfunctions.
Call me a bit tacky, but I'd love a nickel plated m1911. Something clean looking preferably without any bells or whistles.
That slide sounds like it just glides. Awesome.
quelle belle arme , pour moi Francais cela représente les Soldats Americains libérant
la NORMANDIE !!!
+gibsonne vincent What?!?! Que ?!?!
+ANTHONY N. "What a beautiful firearm. For me (a Frenchman) this represents the American soldiers who liberated Normandy."
+schlab73 thanx for forgetting about the Canadians. even a few Quebeckers showed up for you guys
+stonedimaculate1983 forgetting Canadians is my pleasure and always will be, no thanks necessary.
hickok you are the best shooter i have ever seen
love to shoot my WWII Remington Rand 1911. I am more accurate with my Glock 26, but I love my Remington Rand
thanks for the video
Once again great video Hickok. Very much appreciate everything you do for the gun community. Im looking at the Taurus 1911 now, but after the last video I watched of yours, I just dropped a lot of money on a Dillon 550:) Happy New Year
First 1911 I ever bought on my own was a World War II issue government and someone had really messed it up. They had nickeled it and put Pearl blue handles on it. The barrel just about had no riflings left and the barrel bushing was wore out but the actions seemed good. I couldn't do anything about the nickel plating but I bought a new Barrel and a barrel bushing and some new grips Colt grips. Gun shot like a champ for many years. Shot better than the one I shot in the corps and qualified expert with. I love that old gun I wish I still had it.
Well, Mr. Hickok, you convinced me. Off to get a 1911 this week, if I can track down a dang Springer GI. Would love to find a WWI/II replica, or, if the heavens part, a real relic like you're shooting here...maybe down the line...
...anyhow, thanks for another great vid! Happy new year, and happy anniversary to Mr. Browning and his venerable creation!
i LOVE how the .45 is big enough and moves slow enough that you can see it travel on the gong shots! :)
A very appropriate video for the 100th anniversary of the 1911. Its good to see that it's still going strong after all those years.
The thumbnail for this video is so cool,as a ww2 history buff the looks of the 1911 alongside the dog tags is amazing. To think soldiers and marines carried this into battle against the nazis, and japanese.
Lol i know. Add 3mins and 10 secks to 16:01 = 19:11. I love the history side of hickok45. It's what keeps me watching his videos, history humor, and shooting.
that's an impressive gun, 100 years since it was built for the first time, and still in use!!! Awesome video!!
The close-ups while you are talking and loading are great, seems like I can just reach out and touch all that cool stuff.
My first handgun was a 1911 Colt comander. I carried and used it for years putting many thousands of rounds through it and other than replacing some of the springs and mags of course it still shoots great today. As soon as I could afford it I bough a WWll 1911 and it has become my favorite Gun to shoot. I put a lot of rounds through it so usually shoot with a modern barrel and alway use new mags as my original mags don't feed very well. How with the new barrel and moder mags it's a gun I would still bet my life on. Though I do Carry a glock for personal and home defense.
Let me start off by sayin you have excellent gun reviews!! Ive seen all your videos and appreciate all of them! I have a question though, I was watching Stwven Seagals Lawman, and in the episode I saw, Steven Seagal shot the head of a match! He also said you can shoot it in a way where you can actually light the match. Just wanted to know if thats really possible and if thats something you can do perhaps. It would be cool if u do a video on that with different camera angles. -Henry
I'm from the UK and appreciate firearms I cannot own but the m1911 is still a beautiful firearm
I can't believe this video doesn't have well over a million views.
Thanks for the video. I have occasionally shoot my grandfather's sidearm from WWII. Colt .45 that was built shortly after WWI and refurbished before WWII. Fires great, looks better. Probably valuable, but the thing was meant to shoot.
Another great video...thank you sir.
3:58 "Served in WWII in the Pacific Theatre"
Australians and New Zealanders who where serving there, would swap rations for these pistols.
I have seen one just like this, and that was the story from my old neighbor years ago.
Ironically, I bumped into another old guy who told me something very similar.
I was able to connect the two old guys, as they didn't know each other.
"I couldn't hit a barn door with that old thing" he said.
Almost 11 years and still great quality
