As a huge Prince fan I can tell you I thought that too. They may have different styles and aesthetics, but both are a musical genius. I’m 54 so I’m lucky enough to have been around to see both from the start!

He mentioned in the Justin Hawkins interview that like 6 songs or something were done in studio for the album he was working on with Sony, and after they dropped him he wanted to finish the album so he did. I’m pretty sure this is one of the songs with Sony. Listening to the album you can tell which ones were done with Sony and which ones weren’t. Many of those songs on the Album are near 10 yrs old or older which is crazy to think about. The title track “Freckled Angels” is like 12 yrs old. He has a live performance of that song on UA-cam. It’s wild. He’s been at this for so long and due to illnesses he’s been sidetracked…He’s now finally getting his due and I hope he only blows up even more. He’s a genius and everyone needs to be aware of it.
By the production of the drums, I'd say this was part of the original tracks recorded when he was with Sony. So this song is likely 12 or 13 years old. He put out the album 7 years ago. We need to coin a new genre. When you can master every genre, it's called Ren. Dude is mind blowing, and your reactions are FIRE!!!! Peace.

There are so many gems like this that I've been listening since discovering him in January and was so pumped, but then hardly anyone in reaction community looked up these absolute gold songs! It's funny, I've heard this track so many times, but I don't usually think of it when I'm giving out Ren recommendations. Considering how much I love the Chilli Peppers and Alien Antfarm's cover of Smooth Criminal, this should be the top of the list. But the list is SO good and SO long!

In the genres section, Bardcore is listed.
As far as I know, this is a word that HE made up to describe his style.
That is WAY funny.
The page lists over 20 genres.
Bardcore had been used previously for the medieval style versions of pop songs. One of the best for that is Stantough. I'd never heard it applied with Ren's meaning before though!
as i have said on previous Videos of Ren's and reactors before, he is more like the Embodiment of BardCore.
unforchantly Bardcore is a term for certain music, How ever its more of a elusive term of turning modern songs medieval.
how ever, Ren's Music is an art and a Shakespearean play.
so the best way to explain it would be like anti-rap.
there never used to be a brand of anti-rap before and is now being recognised as type of Rap style / genre.
So i can tottally see Ren Indrotucing a new age of BardCore. we just have to accept it will be a differnt style of Bardcore instead of just BardCore itself.
So instead when refrencing His style as Bardcore which it is his own style, We should Say BardCore with a Capatial C for Extra Punctuation and definement.

Love your reactions - you truly get just how talented Ren is. I'm an old man, but I've spent a lifetime loving music, playing in bands and working in recording studios for a while, but Ren has blown my mind like no other artist has. I'm particularly enamoured of this album and both the Demo albums, though obviously his latest stuff is still blowing minds too :)

About Ren: his genres are generally not the kind of music I enjoy. But that kid (to me, that's what he is) is out of this world talented. Is it possible to be scary talented? If anyone can be described that way, it would be Ren. When a song like this one brings a tear, it's just because unbelievable talent (yes, and skill) works that way for me.

INSANE! I found some ren-gems today also. I highly recommend checking out The Big Push, a song called "Slow Down," but it isn't released (yet) and the only place I could find it is in the LiveNation Live from Home video. The songs are labeled on the stream, "Slow Down" is listed as "Finger Mash." I'm hooked!

Been going down the run journey through his catalog ever since high run, and I’m blown away every couple days no matter what I hear from him. I agree he can pick up any genre and blow it out of the water with his own unique style of mixing is lyrical, rap, genius, and unbelievable ability to chameleon his voice into any genre, and also play all the instruments and produce all the beach! Love this track! Wicked creative. You are 100% correct. Ren bends words like a ballon artist. First time I heard it, all I kept thinking...Red Hot Chili Peppers meets the King of Pop. That opening is John Frusciante influence all the way.
