Awesome tutorial as always, I would love to see a workbook style guide with daily practice shapes and parts going more and more in depth through the practice
Be good if you turned on your keypad icons so we can see what your clickin on the mouse and keyboard, would be a lot easier to follow for us newbies! Love the work tho...so sick
I'm refreshing myself a little with some mechanical design @u@ just a side not, to enable OFFSET CUT you need to activate the experimental feature on preferences->addons->meshmachine
Thats pretty cool I model with Solid works and Mastercam in a manufacturing environment, If I could apply these techniques I could achieve more machinable models.
When you shaved the sides to make them more flat but round. The caps that have the hole in it could've used the intersection cylinder boolean to make the ends flat?
What are you using that makes all your edges pop while you are editing. Looks like the bevel node but you are in Eevee.with any materials as far as I can tell.
The final step where you split it down the middle 'to make it look better' . Any other reason ? I'm not sure if it looks better . The rest of the video is great and I'm working my way through one of the freebies on blenderbros , thank you !
Very good tutorial Josh! Thanks for sharing :) I do have to wonder though: At around the 12:30 mark after selecting the inner cylindrical faces, instead of extruding, then right-clicking to cancel the default extrude depth and then scaling inwards, why not simply press Alt+E (to bring up the Extrude menu) and choose Extrude Faces Along Normals? This saves you a few steps and would look like it would accomplish the same results.
It’s actually slower. With my muscle memory E->Escape (or right click)->Alt+S is actually faster for me than reaching Alt+E which is a weird combo to press when actively working. To each their own though
When I use offset it kills the mesh, triangles in places like its overlapping edges somewhere for some reason. Is it because I didn’t apply Scale to the Cylinder before I made the booleans? Cause I didn’t see you do that either, but for some reason its not working like yours does at 6:37-6:39
I have a question: I just bought the boxcutter addon and looked through your videos to follow along and learn the addon... but when I left-click and drag for the basic cutting it is a grey colour and when I release I create mesh rather than remove it. This also happens with the ngon cutter, while I followed along to one of your older videos I had to use the ngon cutter which after left-click and drag created mesh but not even on my cube but far in the background. Maybe there is some option I did not turn on or something else. If you or someone else could help it would be really helpful :). (And sorry for my bad english)
This is fine and all, but because of the messy topology, it is useless in a game engine. What would be the next step of you wanted to use it for games?
This would function perfectly fine in game engines if triangulated properly, but I would still clean it up beforehand. Many different solutions - quad remesher, decimating the bevel segments, connecting the geo a bit cleaner, etc. But as-is, as long as there are no mesh overlaps, all you really need to do is triangulate it. Our Game Asset 2.0 course covers this process in-depth.
WELL ....I COULD BE here all day singing due praise.... so ill just ask.......can you direct me to all things God rays....ive been trying so many different ways with less the results in seeking....in a nut shell can you direct me to God Rays land...please .Tommie Drake....
When Blender uses mid-pan, in perspective view, when I'm very close to the object, the pan seems to be very slow, I turned on auto depth, but it's still slow. Do you feel this way?🥲

Legendary JG™️ Blender hard surface master many thanks Josh 👊🏽⚡🏁
Mmmm...love me some offset cut. That could be an addon by itself and bevels and chamfers make ALL the difference. Great video Josh. Thank you.
Make sure you turn on experimental features in MeshMachine preferences so you have access to the offset cut tool.
i never even considered booling a bool. genius
I watch your videos to learn English and also for 3D modeling! thank you 😃
I bought all their plugins, you taught me how to use them properly.
😀
Super satisfying
Great video as aways Josh. Thanks for the inspiration!
one thing i've learned from this channel is that bevel is king! lool
Top content as always, like your way to HS!

Great approach! Love to learn new thing from your video, as always.
Cheers!
Amazing shape ! Cool video. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
great~absolutely fantastic!
I made this without the addons after watching the video. I should be pretty proud of myself! :)
Nice víideo again Master
Thanks
Great tut. Thx 4 share!
Great video thanks for sharing

ThnX, Dude, you helped me !)

What do you use for boolean add-on?
Hey Josh, Great work.
Do you know anything similar to Offset Cut for Maya?!
What did you press to resize the offset cut
the comment is above yours
It would probably make it easier to add the first sphere sideways, that would avoid a lot of artefacts

please which video can you recommend for your hard surface beginner tutorials🙏🙏
Any of my beginner tuts
@@JoshGambrell ok thanks

No other reason. I like the way it looks personally.
@@JoshGambrell Okay , thanks mate !

👍👍👍
How long have you been using 3D?
10 years, i took a 2 year break though a couple years in
can i get the 3d model of this :)

When I select that edge at 6:35 and press Y nothing happens (even though I have MeshMachine 1.0.2 installed

You don't have an object selected. If no object is selected, it automatically goes into create mode.

You could also make a lower poly version of it and bake this high poly version down.
Great job, I've started posting new videos, I hope it turns out well :) I wish you success.
