My dog, a ShihPoo, had dark mahogany tear stains when I got her. I found out she had allergies and when I removed wheat from her diet her eyes stopped tearing. She is also allergic to other things like chicken and duck (but not Turkey) which gave her smelly yeast infections. She is healthy and allergy free on a diet of lamb and brown rice. No more ugly tear stains.

My little poodle mix started staining about a year or so ago. Mindi is white yet her tear stain in dark with a reddish tint to it. I’ve noticed her hair in the area where she pees has turned dark too. It seems something in her system has changed. I’m going to get the tinctures you recommended to see if that helps her. My Bichon is developing increased staining from the eyes, and the mouth- it seems it's coming as he ages, he's 13. He has just had full dental work so there's no oral problems and no odors. I'd just like to find the best way to keep those areas clean and reduce the staining if possible.

Hi, was this only 1 side? If both sided are affected, ensure they ruled out metabolic diseases such as low thyroid, myesthenia gravis. This nerve may also be supplying nerves to the tear glands, so makes sense that there is also an eye problem. I would consider supplementing to decrease inflammation with 95% curcuminoids at 100mg/10lbs twice daily. GIve with food

Excellent suggestion. Myasthenia Gravis nearly killed my Briard. Five vets had no idea. It is rare in the canine world. She developed a droopy ear at first then a flaccid esophagus. On her deathbed, IV intact and on a suggestion took her to a vet who diagnosed it, sent me to Scripts for a shot of Mestinon and within 10 minutes she was wagging her tail, stood up and was able to drink water. I learned to give her shots 3 x daily until she was able to take food orally and keep it down. Then pills the rest of her life. She lived another 12 happy years.

Dear Dr.Jones. Do you have any tip regarding redish fur on a white dog? I have changed food and he no longer gets salmon oil or carrots. etc.. Still his fur is reddish on his back and offcourse the places where he sometimes are wet.. But i have been very good at drying him but still he has the red colour We are going to a huge dog show in a month and i really need to find a solution. i do not want to use bleach or whitening shampo on him.. He does not smell so i do not think it is fungus in his fur.. Mybe he has some candida? or other fungus inside? I do nto give them bread or sgar or any cheap trets with sugar. I feed them clean meat and Wolf of wilderness kibble.. No corn, wheat, sugar etc.. Is there anything i can give him on /in his food ? I have tried oregano oi and basil on his food but nothing has helped so far.Any idea? Thank you in advance.

Veterinary Secrets what is “Piment”? I have a theory that because the eyes and ears are connected, it has to do with something produced in the mucus of the ear and eyes and spreads back and foetg. Has antobe ever looked at the gunk and tested it for certain bacteria, mold, and / dander?
