still rocking the 2018 pro 11 inch and I have to say, I was a bit worried when I hold on to the 2018 model to miss out on things and as the years progressed I only grew more and more with my 2018 one. New iPads are great but if we realize how good the 2018 was going to hold up in an age were we in now, this is probably one of my best purchases. Keep it up Aqua, great videos!!
I also still would have kept my iPad Pro 2018 for a few more years, but the only problem was it only has 64 gb, and that was enough for me at the time I bought the iPad. But the times changed, and I needed more space now. So I got the 2022 model with 256gb now and since this finally is more than enough space I definitely am gonna keep this for more than a decade. Hopefully there won’t be a time again, where I need more than 256 gb lol.
I still have my 2018 IPad Pro 12.9 in and truly Apple has impressed me. I also have the IPad Pro 12.9 M1 with 16gb and honestly minus the incredible display when consuming media I still can’t find a reason to pass up my iPad. Reminds me of the iPhone 6s or the 2015 mbp.
This is why I like Apple devices, their processors are so powerful and combined with the software they last really long. Would be nice to compare this ipad pro 2018 with an android tablet from 2018. Nice vid!
I just bought a used 2018 11" for €350 as a massive upgrade for my 9th gen, which I can now sell for €300 (bought new for €330 1,5 years ago). There is absolutely noone I'd suggest to buy anything but either a used 2018 Pro or one with on of the M chips.
@@Troyix26 The link to what? Used iPads on ebay? You'll have to find them yourself unfortunately. BTW I did successfully sell my 9th gen for €300 on ebay.
Gotta say now in 2024 my iPad Pro 2018 is reaching it‘s limit when I do heavy multi tasking with office apps with stage manager. Since M4 had way too many downgrades because of the thinness, I upgraded to the M2 iPad. I should be good for a couple of years with that until the bring a proper iPad Pro with OLED.
got a 2018 11inch last 2020 and have been using it since then. tho im thinking about getting an m1 11inch or 12.9 due to the limitations of the 2018 in terms of software as well as for future proofing, but ill hold on for now since it suffices my needs, which is not really high.
Big problem video, that we don't have any information about size of ssd on this ipad - because in different size we have different write/read speed in m2.
Exactly what I'm wondering, if the 18' pro still viable in 2022. I think it should be able to last for 1-2 years. 4gb RAM is its biggest limit imo. Thx🙏
Thanks! I recommend the 2018 for most people, but if you’re using a lot of music creation apps/DAWs etc, I’d recommend getting the M2 if you have the budget. The M1 is also incredibly powerful!
Try out loading UA-cam videos on your channel as opening apps is 1 thing but loading up videos may take bit longer . I do notice the m2 quicker in most of the comparison
iPad OS 16 dropped support for iPad mini 4 and iPad Air 2 which were released 2014-2015. So if we go by that, we should see at least 3 more years of updates. Right? 😁
I know this video is a year old or older but man, loading Apps isn't really testing the processor. I'm pretty sure all tech at this point across many platforms has loading apps down pretty good. Performance could have been tested by rendering some graphic or exporting a video in different formats or testing the FPS in games that stress the processor. Loading apps isn't the way to test this.
procreate and other art programs is where u will see it. 2018 starts to really slow down when u get high in thr numbers of layers or thr sixe of thr canvas. if u just use UA-cam and simple stuff 2018 is good till yhr 4nd of time. but if u do use creative programs m2 is worth the upgrade but ios 16 right now sucks beyond belief

There is no reason this ipad should've came with 4gb of ram. Even then i knew that was gonna be the bottleneck for the following software update. Otherwise i got no issues with this ipad. I read all my comics, ebooks, and pdf texts on it. Soooooo good. I'm just waiting for that 3nm chip on the next ipad where its just a HUGE LEAP. Might be another 2 years tho.
To be fair think your doing the testing wrong usually with apps that’s expected far as speeds to be the same or close to it but you do have lumafusiin so try rendering 4k videos side by side or use light room editing use what will give you more of a ball park of the speeds but rendering videos should tell you everything you need to know. If there seconds behind then yes. It’s all gimmick if it’s a big jump in speed difference then that will tell you
The big issue w these newer chips is most apps lack M1/M2 optimization. I tried LumaFusion on both of these and they felt about the same to me in-app, M2 maybe slightly faster. But then I exported the same project and they exported at basically the same exact speed, which tells me the app isn’t taking advantage of M2 🥲
The biggest reason to upgrade would be 8 or 16GB RAM on the higher end iPad Pro 2022. Plus, they also now have page/swap files. This is with the 12.9”. I forgot what differences are in the 11 inch. It is nice not having iOS close apps in the background. You also aren’t testing high ram use apps on either model.
@@bennyblunto973 not really. And I'm not talking about background app refresh. I turned it on, and I've turned it off, and it makes no real diff on my battery life. However, when I turn on the new fully multitasking mode, then yes, that would drain the battery faster, but my iPad Pro is on wall outlet power 98% of the time. So battery drain is a complete non-issue for me. My point was that this test is a very poor comparison of what the new iPad pros can do Even if you are fully multitasking with tons of apps open, the battery will still last for like 6 to 7 hours which is fantastic

Wondering if I should go for the iPad 10th Gen, or the iPad Pro 2018, what do you recommend?
I would go for a 2020 iPad Pro if possible, the 6GB of ram do make a difference and it’s not that much more expensive than the 2018
