- This could be the first time EVER, where going Pro might be a better option, EVEN for someone who doesn’t NEED pro features. So the question is - are you better off spending the extra money and getting the 11” M2 iPad Pro? Or is the M1 iPad Air 5 - still a better value.
Now, a lot of times, I don’t talk about the prices until the end, but in this case, it puts things in perspective. So the iPad Air 5 starts at $599 and the 11” iPad Pro starts at $799 - so we’re looking at a $200 difference. But, we’re only getting 64GB of internal storage with the iPad Air 5, vs 128Gb with the iPad Pro.

I agree with sticking to you budget. I would also recommend looking at older models which still do what you need that to - but would save you even more money.

Then you buy the m1! I am a student and went from the M1 to the M2. No real difference.
As a medical student AND someone who relies on my parents for expenses, the price point will always be the best factor for me (plus if the features are worth it!). Most will say "Oh get the Pro if you're going to get the Air 5" but the iPad Air 5 costs around $725 in where I live, while the Pro M2 11 inches costs around $1,000 dollars already. That $275 price difference is already a lot and my parents might not buy me an iPad altogether if I ask for the 11 inch Pro. I went from the iPad Air 1 and now I went with the Air 5 and I love it, the 64GB might be small for some but it is more than enough for me who uses my iPad for notes and watching recorded lectures.
Exactly. I gave away my Air 1 to an ex years ago and I upgraded to the 2017 iPad Pro. I then upgraded to the 2022 air 5 last summer and zero regrets. The Air does EVERYTHING I need it to do.
I’m currently using the iPad Air 2, had it for 11 years now, still works! For me the biggest thing is that its cost. Between the Apple Air and the iPad Pro, Apple Air has all I need, but 64GB, wich might be not a lot, and if I go GB, I could spend a little bit more and buy the Pro, so idk what to do.

Since this is my first ever iPad, I decided why not go for the newest one? Settled on the iPad 11" Pro. Tried both the 11 and 12.9 in the Apple store and the 12.9 is nice... but MAN is it massive! Honestly, it felt comedically large. I felt at that point, you might as well just go for a laptop.
The 11" felt so nice in the hand, and using the apple pencil (which I also bought because I feel if you don't, you're really missing out on a huge feature set on the iPads), it felt so much more natural with the 11". Even when drawing, the 12.9 was nice for the massive screen size, but that was about it. The 11 is the right one for me; my thinking is that the iPad is supposed to be an ULTRA portable device right behind a phone so I went with the smaller one.
Considering the only real difference between the 11 and the 12.9 spec wise is the battery size and the screen, I think I made the right choice. This iPad will literally last me years to come.
I got the 11 inch iPad Pro after 8 years of using the 1st gen 12.9 iPad Pro. The smaller size taking more time to get used too, but for once using my smaller iPad Pro for reading seems very feasible. I was originally torn between a 256gb m1 iPad Air and a 512gb m2 iPad Pro. I went with the 11inch iPad Pro and ended up going less the 50 pounds over the ipad air price.

I was actually torn between these two! The 64gb was a factor for me because I know I also don’t need the 256gb. The huge factor why I chose the iPad Pro 11 M2 was its going to be my first iPad so I was like why not go for the latest one because I know I will use this for years. Also, I am used to 120hz already 😂 ProMotion is 😍

I am also looking at these tablets to (maybe) replace my 10 yo laptop. After this video I am leaning towards the Pro. Although this Ipad pro costs just as much as my laptop did in 2012. Just under 1100€.

I have the Air 4 and I use it mostly for drawing. It’s a good size and it does what I bought it for. So I don’t really need to upgrade.
I bought the M2 11” Pro and honestly its hard to put the experience into words. Everything about it is amazing, from the moment you pick it up and feel how insanely thin and light it is, to the typing experience and 120hz. It makes doing everyday tasks genuinely fun.
I think if you aren’t serious about using your iPad, the Air 5 is fine. However, as a person who uses their iPad as their laptop, the pro was well worth it. Not to mention the extra headspace and future-proofing that comes with the M2 and extra storage! Plan on keeping this device for 5+ years :)
i‘m still contemplating which one to choose.. do you think the battery life of the pro is bad? i heard that it looses battery very quickly.
@@maaypuh I think the battery isn’t great, but it doesn’t get in the way. It does drain at a quicker pace, especially since I use a Magic Keyboard. For perspective, I started using it at 8am with 100% battery, now at 4pm I am at 15% battery with no heavy tasks. Thankfully, charging is extremely quick.
Since you're using ipad as laptop replacement, do you use microsoft office, especially excel on ipad? How is it compared to desktop version?
@@diazzsama I use Excel here and there, and honestly it is way more intuitive than I thought it would be. That said, it is nowhere near as capable as the desktop version. For simple editing, reading, and very basic workflows, the iPad version of Excel is only “good enough”. I would stick to the desktop version of Excel if you do anything more than really primitive stuff.

Air 5 256GB wifi + cellular for me, I am never gonna use the extra performance in the pro but sure as heck will use the storage. I can see how people go for the 120hz display but it was a non factor for my use.
My choice was very simple. My priorities were to have a mobile device with incredible efficiency to make pro WORK on it. So at least an M1 was necessary. Then I needed more GB than 128, so 256 was a must. That's it. Everything else are bells and whistles. And adding to the fact that I live in Colombia and the price bumps are around 20% of its original price, then the iPad Air is my sweet spot. Also 256GB makes it even MORE future proof. There is a market for professionals who want the iPad Air. 120Hz refresh rate, a camera I'm never going to use and the speakers are irrelevant features that are absolutely not worth the price bump. The only thing that will make me get a Pro is if I have money to burn or if I need more than 256GB.
100% agree. The Extra speakers are nice but not necessary, The 120 hz screen nice but not necessary, and who the hell needs LIDAR + Camera system on a tablet.
Ipad Air is the best "Bang for buck" device.
In Australia there is a price difference of A$330 between the 11-in iPad Pro and the 10.9-in iPad Air 5 in 256 GB versions, be that wifi or cellular. The Air has 64 or 256 GB; the Pro 128, 256, 512 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB.

In India, ipad air 5 starts at $750 and M2 ipad pro from $1,000. But during October 2022 festival sale air 5 was available in just $600 and galaxy tab S8 was available for $550.

Hi ı am living in Turkiye and ipad air starts at 14.999 TL since we have the worst economy it makes $783 and if you buy for educational purposes it become 13749TL which makes $718 for ipad pro it starts at 20499TL($1070), its educational price is 19219TL($1003). Our minimum wage is 8500TL ($443) and majority of this country takes it. If you don't eat anything you could buy an ipad air in almost 2 month🗿. I got my M2 iPad Pro 11 inch about a week ago. My friend got the iPad Air 5. To counter the storage space issue, she got a Sandisk 1 TB SSD extreme and a hub. In my country, Trinidad and Tobago, the Air starts at about US$825 (64 g WiFi) and the Pro starts at US $1096 (128g WiFi). However, importing computer devices is tax free. So we purchase directly or with the assistance of relatives in the US.

If you buy a M2 iPad Pro, maybe you spend more, but with that power, it can last a lot of years...but the same is true for the M1 iPad Air. It depends on potential use after all, or betting on Apple improving iPadOS enough to make it (finally) a viable laptop alternative.
Storage wasn’t the factor for me. Honestly for what I use a tablet for 64gb is enough. The ProMotion was my bigger concern. But again I thought about what my tablet use would be. For me iPad Air just made more sense. Plus eBay had a brand new unopened iPad Air 5 for $529.

I was intending to buy the IPad (10th gen) but pleasantly found that Best Buy this week has the IPad Air for $499 which is a huge $100 discount. So it was a no brainer to buy the Air.

I bought Air 5 64gb wifi in beautiful blue for 558 chf new in store. I bet that the Pro worths almost the double price. Everyone seems to worry about the 64gb is too small. It still lets you use multiple huge apps and there is still space, but of course sometimes you may need to mindful about your storage. Do not store anything else apart from apps there, use an external SSD for example. I am using it with a Studio Display and can't even see the difference between the 5K and 4K resolution when I switch from my MacBook Pro to the iPad. Stage manager runs smooth and fine. Same main cameras back and front without the extra wide angle support, not much difference. 120 hz vs 60 hz, can't really notice it. I have a Surface Pro with 120Hz. But Studio Display anyways only can use 60hz. Almost identical to the pro for half of the price. I think it was a wise choice from me to buy this. :) Apple made a big mistake to put M1 in there, but I am really happy about it. 64gb is the catch, but is really manageable. I have all the iWork suite, all the kind of GTAs, Baldur Gates, etc, Genshin Impact, lots of productivity apps, Swift Playgrounds and I have still 10gb free. Of course, I can't just put all the apps I have ever purchased before in there, but all that I am regularly using and even more. I think this is really pro territory.
I’m still using my iPad Pro 11- gen 1. It still seems extremely smooth and able to handle everything I’m throwing at it.
I was waiting for this comparison video for quite a while! Although the lineup of ipads is still as confusing as ever, M2 pro is certainly looking valuable. Just hope the pricing becomes a bit more reasonable in the next few months. And ofcourse, a great video from you!
I recently bought an iPad Air 5th Gen for 535$ through an Amazon deal. We dont see much deals for iPad Pro in India. It s 950$. The price difference is huge. Though I think I would miss 120Hz ProMotion, my usage is just for kindle /iBooks, News and occasional Netflix. So my mind didnt allow me :) to spend so much for the Promotion. I dont need more than 64 GB, I have been using first gen iPad air till now. Only 40GB s used.

Watching this on a 2016 9.7in pro with 128gb. I’ve gotten my money’s worth and it’s finally time to upgrade. Your video helped a lot. I’ve used this thing at least 4hrs a day the entire time I’ve had it, but I don’t game on it, just some music apps and social media.

In Switzerland you can (on Digitec) get an Max-Config iPad Air 5 (927 CHF) for nearly the same price as an iPad Pro 11" (929 CHF, if you are fine with space grey). So when you compare the base models of both of them it's about a 300 CHF difference, i ended up buying a Air with 256GB storage. Haven't regret it since.
As a student for studying purpose & for media consumption, I personally prefer Air 5.
In UK the 11” iPad Pro 128GB is £899 ($1078) vs iPad Pro 64GB £669 ($802). The UK prices include 20% VAT (sales tax).
Just picked up my new iPad Pro 11” 512G to replace my Air 4 two days ago…. Merry Christmas to myself 😊. Love it, the Air 4 was great but this M2 pairs up well with my Mac Mini M1. Paid a $1030 including taxes, not a bad deal at all.

I upgraded from the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 to the 2022 iPad Air 5 last summer. I do not need a single extra feature that the pro has, and I don’t even notice a difference in the lack of ProMotion. The M1 screams, and it does all i need it to do. I am just a light iPad user; I don’t use it for work or do intensive tasks. This is a perfect machine ,and it even can use the “Magic keyboard” that is designed for the pro. I also can’t tell a difference with the 2 speakers vs 4 in the pro. If you are just using your machine for UA-cam, light gaming, notes, and email… get the Air 5. I got the 256 gb version which is almost as much as the pro. The 150 bucks difference meant nothing to me, I just liked this model better. Go figure. Cheers

My iPad Air 3 was starting to show its age and the 64gb storage was just barely enough. I hate Apples storage pricing, so I went with the iPad Pro 128gb over the Air 5 256gb.
The 120hz display and quad speakers is way more valuable than extra storage.
I went almost all out and got the 11" 512GB Pro with 5G.
the120hz is a big game changer and the quad speakers makes it even better

In Mexico the iPad Pro 128 Gb M2 is $60.00 USD more than the iPad Air 5th 256 Gb. I wonder if 128 Gb is enough when you plan to use this iPad the next 5 to 7 years. I would rather have more space for the future to come. I plan to upgrade from iPad 6th 32 Gb, which I have had for 4 years and it is now full, to the iPad Air 5th 256 Gb. Got the 11" M1 iPad Pro after having a 2015 12.9-inch iPad Pro. I have really being enjoying the portability of the 11".
In Brazil, iPad Air 5 costs US$ 1323 (official Apple price converted) and iPad Pro starts at US$ 1852. Almost impossible in a country where 40% of workers earn less than US$ 250 monthly.

Geeze, and add on the cost of monthly internet cost, and the cost of various apps sure creep up each month! Why does everyone say that the 11 inch has an lcd display? It’s an IPS-LED display.. the same one that’s used in the iPad Air 5 which no one is bashing.. it also has the addition of the 120hz pro motion instead of 60hz on the air 5. It’s the same display that’s been used in majority of the iPad pro’s the past few years until just last year when they gave the 12.9 5th gen the mini-led display and that is the only model besides the m2 12.9 that has the mini-led, the 11 inch display is not bad whatsoever
Thank you for this video! I have literally spent days upon days trying to figure out which iPad I need. I’m trying to buy for longevity and future proof so that would make me think I would need to buy the fastest one with the better specs. But I’m your every day average user email, web, browsing, very little, but some social media, and lots of streaming so that would lead me to believe that I don’t need everything the iPad Pro offers. Also, I don’t want to waste money if it’s something I don’t need. You told us exactly the differences between the two and why they make a difference. M1 will always last as long as the M2, when it comes to futureproofing you mainly have to avoid the 64GB model and go for a 128GB pro model at least or a Air 5 256GB
In France, the iPad Air starts at 789€ and the iPad Pro at 1069€ so watching videos of this type if really helpful as the price is even more expensive !
64 GB is fine for the normal usecase for a pad/tablet. It’s a casual entertainment device. Mostly for consuming content. Those that wants to use their tablets as an ‘all in 1’ device, are very few. You don’t store much on a pad. And very few would be happy with any tablet as their ‘desktop-device’. It’s much better to not makin any compromises, and use the best devices for different types of use.
Again if your shelling out 600-700 dollars 64 gb does seem small. If your purchasing a device that’s around 200-400 bucks it’s more understandable. Again everyone has a difference preference, and usage.

I got the M1 Air because I only use it as a secondary device for when I go live on TIKTOK and occasional media consumption. I have the M1 MacBook Pro for real work. The Air is perfect for those who have a laptop and just need extra convenience.

i bought the 11 inch m2 iPad pro the day after it came out in my country which is one month later than when it actually came out in the US, it costed 23,999,000 ( twenty three millions nine hundreds and ninety nine đồng). i upgraded from an iPad air 2 just to draw on it and got to say, i like the pen feel better than the 16inch Wacom which is too coarse imo. when i first got it, the speed amazed me. It set me back a lot since i paid for it up front but it was worth it since i plan to use it until it is no longer working ( the iPad air 2 is still going strong and on its 3rd battery ). Despite the battery capacity not being that big, the thing last a whole day even if i play some ark mobile which the iPad air 2 can only play for about 3 hours straight when i first bought it. To conclude, i really like it and if you have the choice, buy it and know that apple support is great and their hardware is top notch.

I have been using a second hand Ipad Pro 12.9 1st gen! (2015) for the past 5 years (so it's 8 years old this year) and will just get an M2 Ipad Pro 11" - for me I just like that I can keep using the same device for soooo many years, I could still put years into the old one probably (dad will use it actually) it's just that I got the new one as a present. To me buying the pro years ago and now choosing the pro meant that I can use it 5+ years. I never minded using something "outdated" if it's ain't broke don't get a new one is my motto. (I mainly use the ipad as a student, the 12.9" was a bit big but in the first years it was a laptop replacement, now I have a good laptop I am very comfortable getting a smaller iPad)
I might have made a mistake. I have an ipad air 5 256gb in the mail because 64gb shouldn't even be an option for todays standards. should start at 128 at a minimum. I also didn't realize there was an 11" pro option. Got it on sale but they are also having a sale on the pro which is only $80 more but 128gb vs 256. I think I could get away with 128gig and the small jump in price is worth the extras you get with the pro.
Might have to just order the pro and return the air. This is how apple gets you though. they make it to where you have to spend more money, even if it's just a little more. It's always a win win for them
I bought the base iPad 9.7" in 2018. It has lasted me 5 good years. This year I'm probably going to upgrade on the base iPad Pro 11" so it can last me even more. I figured the 32 gb was too little (and so are gonna be the 64 gb of the new base iPad) and 256 gb seems overkill for the purpose I want it for... So I'm going for the 128 gb iPad Pro. I'm already looking for how to use the LiDAR sensor because I work in the archaeology/palaeontology field! This is exciting!

Rather than debating 256GB Air or 128GB Pro, we should look upon the-discontinued M1 iPad Pro from third parties. With only few extra bucks over same configuration Air, you get essentially M2 iPad Pro minus the Hover feature. That makes it more worth for your buck than M1 Air or M2 Pro.
Prices in the UK: iPad Pro 900 GB Pounds, iPad Air 670 GB Pounds - a difference of 230 GBP. Those prices include tax (VAT) - all quoted prices for consumers must include VAT. (Businesses must pay VAT but if they’re “registered for VAT” they can reclaim the VAT they’ve paid.) Broadly speaking, it’s not possible to buy anything without paying the VAT.

around here, Portugal, the ipad pro base model retails for 1080 euros, around 1150 us dollars at current exchange rate. we go to a store and we get one and half ipad on the way back.
I have a 64GB 2018 Ipad Pro. I don't game. I don't keep photos on it. After 18 months of daily use (this is my "laptop" when I am away from the office) I am only using about 28GB of internal storage. Even when I load up some movies and shows for offline viewing I rarely go beyond 32GB of storage on the device. Most of my work files are on iCloud that only costs $1 per month.
In Germany, the 11-inch costs 1050€ and the IPad Air 770€. Prices have visibly risen in recent month.

Where I live the iPad Pro M2 11 inch costs 1,240 USD with 128 Gigs, the iPad air 5 costs 1,040 USD with 256 gigs of storage, so for me the choice is the air 5 since it's cheaper and has double the storage.
I'm not an Apple fan, but to choose, I will take neither of the 2 but rather an iPad Pro M1, it is very easily around $600 - $700.

Ipad Air 5 today (17th of June 2023) costs about $740-$750 range,
Ipad 10th gen about %615-$620 range.
Ipad mini 6th gen costs about $640-$650 range...
All 64 gb.
Didnt ask fot the pros but I believe the base easily costs about $1000.
I'd been struggling between these 2 iPads as a Christmas gift. Was about the pull the trigger on the Air 5 64gb at $500 sale price when Target ran the iPad Pro 11" with the M1 chip for $549.00 on a cyber Monday special. The deal is on again for today only but they are out of the 128gb version for shipping unless you can find one locally. Other memory configurations are on sale. Just like to add that if you can find the M1 version of the iPad pro it's a great alternative as well. Thanks for another informative video!

No, I don’t. But I have to say I’m not the target user for it. I thought I would be editing photos on it but I still do that on my MacBook Pro even when traveling. It’s become a glorified multimedia / UA-cam player for the most part. Really overkill for that I’m my own opinion.
Thanks for the video. I'm actually looking at purchasing one of these now, the Air M1 or the Pro M2. Currently I can get the Air for $499 (256gb / wifi only) or the Pro for $799 (512gb / wifi only). Yes, I understand these are back a few processor levels but I feel the M1 or M2 should be fine for me. Seems like the face ID, better speakers, better display (120hz, brighter), pencil hover functionality, additional 256gb of memory and better overall performance are reasonable additions for the additional $300. I think TFP is the way that a lot of shooters build their portfolio, I know it was for me, the reality is the experience I built from it allowed me to get to a point of skill that meant I can now get paid work.
There’ll always be someone just starting out, but realistically the shots from early on aren’t likely to stand the test of time
Hover is a must-have for anyone who want to paint or draw on iPad, I am genuinely shocked there was no hover feature with the stylus till now, just odd.
I've been using my Ipad pro 12.9 for like 3 years for digital art and never had an issue. Hover definitely isn't a must have.

Quad speaker can never replace good earphones, 120hz required for those who are spoilt by it , hover pencil feature not yet useful, m2 processor is overkill, thunderbolt required for daily huge transfers, whats essential in an iPad are the processor and internal storage, so an m1 and 256GB on air 5 the best

I’m Italy. Here Apple priced the iPad Pro 11” at an initial € 1069 (about $1130 usd) and the iPad Air 5 at € 789 (about $835 usd), but some tech retail stores often have discounts on the Air so you can easily get that for less.

I brought an Apple refurbished M1 iPad Pro 11” as I still feel it had more features then the iPad Air, looks brand new with new back, battery and a years warranty plus the Extra RAM and Pro-motion - Pro £639 Air £669 no competition!
The Pro in 11" would have been also my pick under one additional feature: HDR at least, better Mini LED screen.
Since it lacked exactly the feature i wanted i just got a Air 5 256GB, cheaper and 256GB are nice for a tablet
In Canada $799.00 air $1099.00 pro I just purchased the 12.9 m1 for for $1220.00 Canadian and love it.

Im actually getting the ipad air 5, its quite expensive so im getting a second hand one,which is in good condition. Im getting this ipad specifically for degital art, animating, video editing, photo editing and i wanna be able to use soft wares like adobe fresco and procreate. I feel like this is gonna be a great investment and im so glad that my father is able to make my dream come true.

My birthday is just after new years, on the 18th and I was looking to buy the iPad, but they are so expensive in comparison to the US. I live in New Zealand, where the baseline pro starts at $1,649NZD(around 1,050 USD) and the air starts at 1,179 NZD(750 USD), and the standard 10th gen is 878 NZD(559 USD). Such a shame, but it won't stop me from buying one of them- maybe even an ipad air 4 because theyre around 800 nzd, and do the same as an ipad 10th gen
