I love Shelby Foote. He’s one of my favorite historians. I’ve read Shiloh among many of his books. He had a style of writing thaț flowed nicely and he had a way of breaking things down that was easy to understand.

Really enjoyed your video. My wife and I live in the Memphis area and we’ve visited Elmwood Cemetery. So many interesting graves to visit. So many veterans from many wars interred there.

Shelby Foote was one of the greatest American historians. Although a Southerner, he told the story of the Civil War very balanced between the Union and Confederacy.

He was more of a very fine storyteller than a great historian. Definitely a very readable author; his novels are pretty good too, IMO.

@@WalkwithHistory Mr Foote always struck me as one of those guys I would love to sit on the porch with and just sip my bourbon and listen. I bet I've watched Ken Burn's Civil War series a half dozen times just because of him.

Fascinating place to wander around. So many graves that go back to when people went all out in erecting monuments to deceased loved ones...and to themselves in some cases, I suppose. I have family buried there, and while their graves are modest, standing over them, one can look around and see some pretty impressive commemoration.
