I listen to this song at least 3 times a day. It's so melodic and beautiful. If you composed it yourself cudos to you kind sir for sharing your talent with all of us out here.
celtic music always touched me as long as I can remember, so it was only natural for me to sing along to these beautiful tunes. Now I do celtic studies at university and have the chance to learn all those lovely languages. Last year I decided to get a harp and I startet playing at the beginning of this year. I hope to be as good as you on that instrument some day ;)
OMG!!! I Just love this video and the way you play... I've marked it as a favorite some time ago and just have to watch it over and over!!! That's truly a blessing and a gift to be able to play so well.
Thank you! All the best with your lap harp! Anyway, I find it encouraging that there is someone else who plays several instruments ... and "messes around" with some more"...!!
The song is called "Getröstet unterwegs" (being comforted as you carry on on your way). I wrote it 7 years ago, and it is also on my CD "Harfenspiel" which contains 30 pieces of music for lap harp.
@MrBdc2013 I once played in the Northland Symphonic Orchestra in Kansas City, Missouri, and I also played in a school orchestra there. Nowadays I sometimes play in the orchestra of our parish, for special events.
Thanks for these news! (I'm surprised by the effect my videos have!) Concerning your question whether it is possible to play renaissance-music on a lap harp: Yes there are limitations in the harmony. But you could play "La Folia" in d-minor by raising the deepest c-string to c# thus enabling an A-major-chord. Similarly, I sometimes lower the first c-string to b so that i can play a G-major-chord (when the harp is tuned to F-major). Ok...all the best!!!!!
Thanks for your compliment! Concerning your question: No, I don't know of any places in the internet where you can find such sheet music. The pieces I play I have composed myself. I can send them (booklets with 30 or 60 pieces for lap harp), if anybody is interested.
@rubyred1001 Hi Ruthie.. Thanks for your encouraging comments! Yes I've composed the music myself (or rather, they have been given to me via inspiraton). The notes (and 29 more pieces of music) are in a music booklet that I have published. I could either send it by post or try to email this one piece. What would you prefer? Yours Werner
@ayu181733 It's a lap harp i got from the french company CAMAC. It has 22 strings- three octaves - and is the very basic model without levers. Basically it's a rebuild from the middle ages.
Well, Kaede, if you are really interested... I bought my harp from France actually (Camac harps)! And if one is a bit of a musician, it's not all that difficult to learn! If you need any advice, let me know! (Werner from Austria)
@Bluetterfly Hi David! I think ist's a great idea you purchasing a harp (especially with your name!) - Unfortunately I don't know myself who sells lap harps online. You might just search on the internet. I got my harp from CAMAC in France. All the best!!
@bodenhofen I have seen your new years video which was also fantastic as well im going to watch your alphorn right now. Were you ever in a famous orchestra or something?
It's so beautiful! God has given you such a wonderful talent! I'm getting a 19 string lap harp and I'm so excited for it to arrive! I hope to be as good as you are one day! God bless!
Oh.. thank you! I wish you all the best with your future harp!!! God bless you too!! - By the way, one place where i frequently play the harp is for patients in a hospital here...
@yorayalay Hi! My harp is a lap harp built by CAMAC in France. In the USA, I don't know where you could find one. Mine is a basic model, even without levers.
I would love to buy a harp that sounds like that,,,i wish i knew more about the different kinds of harps ....i wonder how much a harp like he is playing costs....??
Hi! I'm glad yopu like my music! The CD is not to be had on normal trade but you can order it from me and I send it to you. It goes for a donation plus postage.
Hi! This is a piece i composed myself; it is part of the booklet "Harfenspiel" containig all 30 pieces of music that are also on my CD "Harfenspiel". I could send you this booklet (it is available only from me); or, if it's only this piece you need, I could mail you a photo of it (jpg). Glad you enjoyed the music!
@ElwynSun Hi! I would love to send you the music, but it is written in the program "Encore", so without the program you would not be able to open the file.
It's called "Lap Harp"; however, this term is also used for another string instrument, a plucked psalter. In German the above instument is called "Schoßharfe" (which means "lap harp" as well).
Your videos are probably popular because you play very fluent and strong, whereas most other lap harp player videos here sound like the performers just learned the tune and also are a bit scared to touch the strings. :) You have almost a flamenco approach to picking the strings. thanks for the tuning tip!
Hello Werner, Is it possible to play your works with 15 strings lap harp ? Or let me know if you have pieces for 15 or 12 strings. I want to try your beautiful music!
Dear Yumi! Hi! - Sorry I'm so late in answering your question.. The answer is: Yes, there are pieces from me that you could play with a 15-string harp (12 string is too small. Best would be 22 strings). For example, in my booklet No. 2 there are 8 pieces out of 30 that would fit your harp (with little changes in two pieces). They are all on my CD "Harfenspiel". - I hope this answer is a help to you!
Hello Werner, Very glad to hear from you! Thank you. I used to play a 34 strings harp and now try to find a lap harp, so your suggestions are useful. I will request your booklet after getting the 15 or 22 strings. Yumi
Very nice playing! Seing your videos (many times) made me decide to buy a similar 22-string lap harp which I soon will try out! As a guitarist I wonder if it is possible to play renaissance music (La Folia for instance) on a harp like this, not having a chromatic scale?
(I reply in English, to stay international): Thanks for your encouraging commentary! - The music I play on this video is part of a CD with harp music I made in 2002. As I see, you play harp too and do a lot with celtic music! How did you start on that? Greetings...
What a beautiful tune and such a lovely tone from your beautiful little harp! By the way, do you know any place online where I could find lead sheets for folk tunes from Austria or other European countries. I'm working on arrangements for 26-string harp. Thanks!
Hello. I LOVE this song and have recently purchased a lap harp. Is there any way to get the music for this beautiful melody? I think you play wonderfully. Thanks. Ruthie
Well since I am in Austria, and you in the USA, playing together might be a bit difficult! - I have however played together with a drummer recently - see one of my newest videos!
Hi! How's it going with your lap harp? About tuning: There should be a description of the instrument telling at least the pitch of the lowest string. Then just tune upward the scale you want to play!
A smaller harp will normally have less sound-volume. If you send me a picture of the harp, maybe I can tell you more about it. (werner.hebeisen@aon.at)
;-) Herzlichen Dank !!!!
That was absolutely beautiful. I have a little lap harp with 23 strings. Would I be able to play your piece? I am looking for songs I can play on this little harp. Your song and playing are a delight!
Yes, certainly you could play it on your harp. Maybe transposed, depending on which strings you have. My harp has 22 strings only. Would you be interested in the sheet music?
I listen to this song at least 3 times a day. It's so melodic and beautiful. If you composed it yourself cudos to you kind sir for sharing your talent with all of us out here.
This is so lovely! I love how happy he is about his beautiful little instrument and how wonderfully he plays it.
